Set Description
I will be collecting select favorite books from The Walking Dead Hero Initiative 100 Project. All of these are the original sketches that were pictured in the collection book. Some info on each one:

Nelson DeCastro - Known professionally as Nelson, is an American comic book artist known for his airbrushed cover art, and his interior penciling, inking and coloring work for Dark Horse, Marvel and DC Comics. His career work spans many high profile franchises including X-Men, Wolverine, Captain America, Iron Man, Ant-Man, Black Panther, Elektra, Ghost Rider, Superman and Birds of Prey.

Cat Farris - A Portland, OR native, and the creator of the mini comic series Flaccid Badger and the webcomic The Last Diplomat. She has done art for various comics publishers, including Oni Press, Dark Horse Comics, and IDW. An illustrator with an animation influence, Farris is best known for her chibi versions of popular superheroes and video game characters.

Christopher Herndon - Artist, monster maker, musician, and more, Chris is the creator of two comic book series and illustrator for numerous album covers, games, and magazines. He is highly regarded for his detailed Paleo Art in the awesome ROHR! comic series and on the back of his book in this set.

Joe Jusko - Re-known for his realistic, highly detailed painted fantasy, pin-up, and cover illustrations, mainly in the comic book industry. Joe is a famous Marvel artist who painted the 1992 Marvel Masterpieces trading cards, the popularity of which has been credited with initiating the painted trading card boom of the 1990s. Joe celebrated the 25th anniversary with a new Marvel Masterpieces set in 2016. His TWD Hero Initiative book remains one of my Top 5 favorites of the project.

Menton Matthews III – Mostly known as Menton3, is an American painter, illustrator, comic book artist and multi-instrumentalist. When describing his art, Matthews shared that he has had a lifelong interest in the relationship between symbols, signs and images and that part of ourselves we most commonly refer to as "unconscious". “My interest in painting stems from my investigation into the relationship between images and their relevant use within the psyche.”

If you have one available, I am interested to talk!!

Farris TWD HI Walking Dead 100 Signature 9.8 Walking Dead Hero Initiative 100 Project - Cat Farris artist

She has done art for various comics publishers, including Oni Press, Dark Horse Comics, and IDW. An illustrator with an animation influence, Farris is best known for her chibi versions of popular superheroes and video game characters.

I spoke with Cat about this cover and it was done at a very early stage in her career, Given the high visibility of getting published, she put a lot of effort into it. I like the red detail lining visible before she laid down the inks and the background inkwash which adds nice depth. The "walkers" on the back cover were drawn for her own enjoyment, sourced from a personal project she was doing about a girl who befriends a zombie with a similar design. Cool!!!

Matthews TWD HI Walking Dead 100 Signature 9.6 Walking Dead Hero Initiative 100 Project - Menton Matthews III artist

This is a stunning piece of art done in watercolor and oil paint. It is very similar to a zombie that Menton3 painted but in full oil paint for a ZvR comic pin-up. But this cover also adds the white circle around the head (common in many of Menton3's pieces) and the cryptic language markings.

I have my own imaginary interpretation of this piece. I think of the ring around the zombie's head as a sighting scope for an alien assassin. The targeting mechanism sees the zombie's skull like a Predator. Interestingly, the lower jaw is missing - could this have been a "walker pet"? The alien writing is the assassin communicating with another alien or his home base. Love this piece!!!
