Owner's Description
"ep·i·logue - noun - a section or speech at the end of a book or play that serves as a comment on or a conclusion to what has happened." Dictionary
This cover always gives me the feeling that the Universe is big but it's gonna be okay because there are heroes in it. In my opinion, it also has the feel of a stand-alone book rather than simply Superman 83. The cover says huge things are happening!
I grabbed my first graded copy of this book, a Universal 9.8, on eBay for a really good price... $39.50! I added this Signature Series copy after my Base Set was already at 100 percent completion, I reholdered this book in December 2020. Both copies are in my Custom Set!
I wanted to liven this slot up a bit so I added a collectible in the second picture that really has nothing to do with this set, but that says a lot about how collecting can help you meet some pretty cool people. In the mid to late '90's I was really into collecting Superman: Man of Steel as well as Superman: The Animated Series action figures. I loved these things and had to have them all. There was one website in particular that always had all the scoop on these figures. This is where I found out about the Canadian and European two-packs, as well as this Metropolis Bank Playset you see here that was a European release. For whatever reason some of these figures were only released in certain overseas markets. I initially bought an item (Green pants Darkseid/Superman two pack) from a guy on eBay that lived in France. We ended up striking up a friendship and I found out that he collected Batman and was frustrated that stores in the U.S. had exclusives that he could not get in Europe. I also found out that he traveled pretty much all of Europe for his job. It got to the point that if I spotted a Batman exclusive that I knew he couldn't get I would just box it up and send in his way and he would do the same for me in regard to Superman exclusives. We didn't really keep track of who owed who anything and didn't really think of it that way. We were just collectors that were helping each other out, it really wasn't about money. I ended up getting all of the European figures from him and he got plenty of Batman swag from me. The most prized, and I believe rare, item from this time is the one shown here, the Metropolis Bank playset that was never released in the U.S. It was based on some type of Batman playset if I remember correctly.
Seb and I eventually lost track of each other. After the events of 9/11 I was pretty much deployed constantly and then moved multiple times. I wasn't super-internet savvy at the time, and this was when you would move and get a new email with whatever carrier was in that area. Anyways, I lost his physical and email address over the course of several years and moves. I've tried to look him up several times but yes, as this cover makes me feel, the Universe is big and I haven't been successful yet... yet!
