Heritage auction win from June 2022. Well, where do I begin with this book? Well, I guess it is the origin and first appearance of Metamorpho, so it garners more interest right off the bat and is a pain in the a$$ to run collectors like me due to the added attention from key collectors.
I really didn't take the best path at getting this book (which is tied with two others for HIGHEST GRADED on the CGC census). Comiclink auctioned an 9.8 off back in August of 2021. My bid of $11,000 was the third highest bid as the hammer price was $12,027. That very same copy then hit Heritage in January 2022. I bid even more this time, but I balked at going beyond $16,800 for a book (which hammered for $18,000) that just sold for $12,027. So I missed out on it again.
Now, flash forward another six months to June 2022 and Heritage is auctioning off a 9.8 again (although a different copy this time, likely brought to auction based on the price the last book went for...I don't blame that person). So, I had targeted two B&B books in that auction and having just won the B&B #10 9.6, I was pushed real hard on this book, pretty much to the limit...but I (stupidly?) won the book at a new high watermark of $20,400 (ugh!). So...instead paying maybe $13K in August of 2021, I got to pay $20K in June 2022 - real smart move.
It is a nice copy and it does cross one more off my list to complete this run...but I figured if not now, then when and how much more?
