This comic book is the first full appearance of Doomsday, following cameos in Superman: The Man of Steel #17, Superman #73, Adventures of Superman #496 and Action Comics #683.
I found this book raw for $34.99 at my local comic shop, Escape Velocity Comics in Colorado Springs, CO. I already had a CGC 9.8 of this comic in my collection but I couldn’t resist the fresh raw copy. I got my 9.8 example in 2012 for $65, a price that I thought seemed steep then. I also really wanted that comic in a new holder, it would have been cheaper to have passed on the raw copy and send my graded example in for a new holder, but I wanted the experience of finding and submitting this comic for grading even more. I sent it to Classic Collectible Services® (CCS®) first but it probably didn’t need it. I love that I was able to find this piece at my local comic shop, submit it and see it return in 9.8 grade. I also submitted Batman: Vengeance of Bane Special #1 along with this comic, now I can say that I submitted 9.8s for the first appearances of the two biggest comic book villains of my childhood!
