Previously, I had won the Pacific Coast Pedigree in 9.6 in the Heritage auction from June 2021. Surprisingly, this Pacific Coast Pedigree copy was tied with six others at the top of the CGC Census.
I had a few prior opportunities to get a couple of the other highest graded copies in the past few years, missing out on a sweet deal in the CL June 2019 auction and a significantly higher final auction total in the February 2021 CL auction. I managed to spend even more than either of those two in finally getting the PC Pedigree one (yay me!). It was a PC pedigree, so you are going to pay more...
That being said, the January 2024 Heritage auction had some nice B&B’s…and another newly minted 9.8 was being auctioned. I was able to add this one to my collection and it is currently the SINGLE HIGHEST GRADED on the CGC Census. As a “bonus”, I was able to pay the same price as I did for the 9.6 PC Copy, so there’s that.
This issue represents the second Flash team-up in the series, following the Flash/Atom pairing in B&B#53. The Flash does appear in B&B#54 as well, but that issue is really the genesis of the Teen Titans. In this issue, the Flash and the Martian Manhunter face off against an android from the planet Argon, who is essentially a second rate Amazo. The Android was created with all the powers of the JLA, but it can only utilize the abilities of two JLA members at any one time. At any rate, the android falls in love with the Queen of Argon, is rejected and banished to Earth where it goes on a rampage (just go with it, I'm not saying there's not a couple holes in this story).
Long story short, the Flash and J'onn J'onzz face off against the android, are killed, and the android enslaves the Earth.
