"Captain Marvel Faces Fear"

The story is narrated by Fear itself. We are introduced to Dr Carl De Reine, who just completed his latest invention. He hands a package to a young courier warning the boy not to drop it but when he sees the package labelled Atomic Engine he dumps it in a trashcan and runs away. He bumps into Billy Batson screaming that a bomb is about to explode. Billy transforms and grabs the boy asking what the problem is. The boy takes him to the trashcan where he dumped the Atomic Engine but the trash has already been picked up so they check on Dr De Reine. The doctor assures Cap that the device is harmless but the courier has already split and starts causing panic to the point where it's the headline of a newspaper. All of this to the delight of fear.
Billy tries to assuage fears with his broadcast but to no avail. He transforms to Capt Marvel to try and prevent injury in the panic and tells people there is no bomb. The crowd starts to calm so Fear decides to intervene and causes a car to backfire causing a whole new panic. Marvel spots Fear and takes chase but Fear turns out to be a formidable foe. When Cap pears inside his cloak even the World's Mightiest Mortal pauses when he sees the face of Fear allowing the spirit to escape.
Marvel begins to search for the Atomic Engine to end the panic but a hobo finds it in the city dump and starts whole new panic when he claims there is an atomic bomb within the garbage. Cap tries to persuade the hobo that the engine is harmless but Fear tries to directly influence Marvel. Marvel resists and punches Fear in the face. Fear disappears and later Billy does a radio broadcast where he presents Dr De Reine to explain to the audience that his device is harmless and the Fear thrives on ignorance. Great ending to one of my favorite Capt Marvel stories.

"Captain Marvel's Melancholia!"

Lionel Briggs is framed for faking accounts at the law firm he works at. One of the partners at the law firm refuses to believe he's innocent and pulls a gun on Briggs to take him to the police. We can't see what happens but the gun is fired and the partner is dead with a smoking gun in Lionel's hand. Capt Marvel arrive and Lionel claims it was an accident but he's taken to jail anyway.
Weeks later, the trial of Briggs is going on and the other partner is giving testimony against Briggs. It looks bad but Marvel is feeling bad for Briggs wife and two kids. He walks down the street feeling depressed when Mr Morris spots him and asks what the problem is. Mr Morris encourages him to forget the Briggs case but malaise. As he walks past a baseball game some kids ask him to join in but he ends up striking out without taking a swing. He goes fishing but the fish he catches reminds him of Briggs. Marvel decides to revisit the scene of the crime. He spots a bullet hole in the ceiling but only one bullet was fired which means someone else was the killer. The actual killer was the other partner, Jerome Langley and Marvel has proof from fingerprint evidence. Langley pulls a gun but gets punched out and Marvel manages to regain his happiness.

"The Pride of Mr Morris"

We open to Mr Morris making a business deal offering one million for television rights to a theater presentation. For some reason this will make WHIZ the television center of the country.
Later, Billy is talking to Morris and Morris tells him that he wants to win first place in a contest for the best home movie and he invites Billy to his house to help out. When Billy walks in the front door he is nearly hit by a bucket of water propped above the door while Morris was trying to film it. Billy avoids the gag to Morris's dismay. While Billy is in his room he smells smokes and transforms to Capt Marvel but it turns out to be another gag by Morris. The gag goes as planned but Morris forgot to take the lens off his camera and is furious at his failure. Morris then lays a dummy on the ground to fool Cap into thinking he died but Marvel isn't fooled in the least and acts as if he's fooled. He then spots Morris out cold from tripping over some furniture. When Morris wakes he rages at his next failure but Cap starts to film the reaction.
The two hear a noise in the next room and investigate to find a thief. Morris begins filming but when the crook starts shooting Cap knocks him out. Apparently Morris paid a man to fake a robbery but the guy who was knocked out was a real robber. Morris is furious again but Cap explains that although his attempts at fakery failed he caught real life on video. Morris wins first prize in the home video contest and proudly displays his certificate on his wall.

Dr Sivana has developed an ultrasonic gun to help him become the Ruler of the Universe. He sends out a message claiming that he will burn down WHIZ the next day. Billy helps increase security but Sivana uses his ultrasonic gun to light the building from hundreds of yards away. Billy is perplexed as to how he did it but spots Sivana with his ultrasonic gun and transforms. Sivana shoots Marvel with his gun causing him to vibrate as the scientist makes his escape. Cap breaks free but is distracted by a cry for help from WHIZ. He rescues someone from an elevator but Sivana is gone.
Later, Sivana broadcasts a message that he's going to destroy an elevated train. Sivana uses his gun to lift the train in the air but Cap arrives and gently lowers the train. Elsewhere, Sivana begins to change water into steam using ultrasound blinding Marvel in a thick fog. Cap goes to the zoo and gets a bat to use its echolocation to find Sivana. Sivana leads him to his hyper ultra sonic projector which traps Cap in its powerful vibrations. Cap breaks out fairly easily and punches Sivana so hard that the evil scientist himself is left vibrating and continues to vibrate in jail. We close with a joke from Billy. The End.
