Owner's Description

Iron Man #282 | Marvel (07/1992)
Newsstand Edition
1st full War Machine

This book is an absolute grail issue from the volume 1 run. It's a big enough deal to find high-grade examples of newsstands from this era when they were diminishing for Direct Market sales instead. But this book is key for being the first appearance of the War Machine armor, piloted by Tony Stark in this issue as a key element of what would go on to become one of the definitive Iron Man stories of all-time.

Because of the prominence of War Machine across Marvel since the character's inception, most people simply accept this book as a key for the armor's appearance here, which unfortunately overshadows how great this book (the watermark chapter of an arc leading to the armor's inception) really is. This run features Tony at his best - physically on the edge, but unbeatable in planning and strategy, he not only defeats The Masters of Silence - amazing techno-ninja-like assassin's created by Len Kaminski, but converts them to his cause and then leads a counter-assault against Justin Hammer in his new War Machine armor, coming out ahead while on his death-bed from physical issues which long-plagued the character across the title.

This book is a true Iron Man volume one key in every way conceivable way and it is represented here in the best way possible - as a high grade newsstand of the era.
