The Last Wine Edition

(Currently the last #1 Reprint that has been re-printed)

Reprints Walking Dead #1

Chris Burnham cover

SIGNED & SKETCH BY STEVE LYDIC ON 4/19/20
(how 'bout those dates- released 4/19- sketched on 4/19/20)(I like numbers)

*Where do i even start with this ridiculous reprint that went from being a rumor to actually being real.
-I'm going to have to break it down on this one- its an epic epoch-

1. I discovered these were real due to having 3 of my co-workers simultaneously searching the web looking up wine dealers- this is not a variant for a particular day- its for the actual WALKING DEAD WINE- What? Chris Burnham did the art for the labels used on the wine bottles There are different labels with different Walking Dead characters on them, this cover is the same as one of the labels used- . I did not look into this- but why is there Walking Dead wine? Is there Peter-Parker whiskey? Thor & Tonic? A comic book property posing as an alcoholic beverage seems odd to me---which is odd in itself because I'm pretty odd.

2. I had a goal to get a #1 cover in this set with a Lydic sketch on the cover. Steve Lydic is one of my favorite artists. I have plethora of his art, and he is no stranger to Walking Dead books. However, there is no Walking Dead #1 of any sort with any kind of cover made for sketching on. The rear cover of the 15th Anniversary books is about as much space as you can get- but its on the back cover- Steve Lydic goes on the front- not on the back- ("Nobody puts baby in a corner")-- Time has also been against me- I am closing in on completion of this set, there aren't very many more Walking Dead #1 books left for Steve to play with. I lack only the Romanian #1- and its cover is way too busy and full for anything fun. This would be my last chance to get some of Steve's art on a domestic Walking Dead #1 reprint.

3. When these books hit the market they were selling from $400 to $2000- A 9.8 yellow label sold for $1800- I was both happy and sad to see these prices- It was good to see that regardless of what the naysayers are sayin'- the demand for this book is still strong among collectors- and people were/are still willing to drop some big money on Walking Dead books. Its also always exciting to see a new reprint pop-up to chase down--the bad part was that i was going to have to figure out how to get one and figure out how to pay for it- Once I obtained my copy- I knew this was the one I was going to get to Steve somehow- I didn't know what i would ask him to do with it- but i was giving it to him either way.

4. There are rumored to be 1000 of these printed- and if there are, ALL 1000 copies are available to buy online it would seem. This particular copy arrived to me on Friday November 22nd, 2019 at around 11 AM- I handed it directly to Steve Lydic that same day around 5:30 PM at what would be the very last Louisville Kentucky Galaxy Con (RIP)- . While I waited for this book to arrive in the mail- hoping to get it before the comic show- my wife and I must have watched Step-Brothers 2 to 3 hundred times. The planets all aligned- the vision for this cover was realized- my request to Steve was now known- I had a #1 reprint- Steve would be at a show an hour from my house- One-Stop Dan would be there to get the CGC part covered-- The LAST Wine Variant- the LAST reprint, the LAST Louisville show, the LAST chance I had to get a #1 with a re-mark from Steve.--- There are several endings tied into this particular comic- (hopefully the LAST time i have to wait 8 months to get a book back)(Geeze!)

5. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! Steve nailed it! (if you don't understand what Negan is saying- go watch Step-Brothers NOW)- I almost chewed out my finger-nails waiting on this- and it was worth the wait- Thank You Steve & Dan!

6. Is there a Patrick Swayze quote in a comic description for a Walking Dead #1 that has a Steve Lydic sketch on it?....god damn right there is.

*Thanks to Dan-the Man Partouche for the scan
