1:1 ratio cover. This cover is so completely Perez. So, I like that we have a full scene - the stairwell in a tower, the wizard facing away off a balcony, while simultaneously watching Sonja creep up the stairs from the shadows (because wizard). There's a strong sense of place, and a good light source, and even a little bit of story on the cover. So...what I don't get: the stairs turn the wrong way - at least historically, the person attacking up the tower stairs should have their sword arm (right arm) toward the wall to make swinging the sword at the defender harder; and what's with all the skulls littering the stairwell? Sure, I bet the wizard could just magic his butt down to the main floor - but what it he wants to walk? What about the help? Maybe he wants a sandwich from the kitchen and his henchman is going to trip on a skull and fall down the stairs. OK, new henchmen aren't a big deal, but now his sandwich is late, and there's probably mustard stains somewhere. Sonja's stance is good, except nobody goes up 4 stairs at a time quietly - so that doesn't make sense to me. What I really like is the wizard taking shape in the shadows behind/above Sonja, the ambusher getting ambushed. That's totally Conanesque and very much a win in my book. The composition works with all the angles leading up and to the right, so we're looking at the victim's back and only when we take time to look in the dark spaces do we see the attack coming.
Overall - I think this one is a win. It's got a lot of 90s feel to it happening, but it's a Perez, so that's kinda what you get.
