Amazing Spider-Man #315 features the 1st cover appearance of Venom!

Overstreet 2023 NM- 9.2 value = $50.

According to the CGC Census Report as of Tuesday, August 22, 2023, out of a total of 2,691 Universal copies graded, 822 copies were graded in 9.8 with 0 copies graded higher!

With these statistics in mind, this represents a rarity factor of 30.55% of the total population.
___________________________________________________________

Here it is! The historic 1st cover appearance of one of the most popular characters to emerge from the Marvel Universe—Venom! Consider this, although Venom’s origin & 1st full appearance took place in May of 1988; he was NOT featured on the classic front cover of Amazing Spider-Man #300, which was drawn by his creator—the legendary Todd McFarlane!

Surprisingly, it took a total of 15 issues (or 1 year and 3 months) later before Venom would make his 2nd “full” appearance in the history of comics! Moreover, we finally got to see Venom’s presence grace the front cover with his face featured on the upper right-hand side, coupled with a text box that reads: FEATURING, THE LONG AWAITED RETURN OF VENOM! To add hype and sarcasm to his personality after emerging from his 15 issue hiatus, McFarlane included a comic dialogue bubble with Venom’s response to the caption that reads: YEAH RIGHT!

Just think of how excited devoted Amazing Spider-Man readers must have been when ASM #315 hit the newsstands! After making a strong 1st impression in ASM #300, fans had to wait 1.25 years to experience the Venom symbiote back in action!

In addition to Venom’s face being featured on a cover for the 1st time in history, Todd McFarlane drew a terrific Hydro-Man vs. Spider-Man battle cover! The action captured within the image is superb! We see Hydro-Man in a dominant pose directly in the middle of the cover emitting a tumultuous waterfall directly on Spider-Man; plunging him face first into the raging water current! The intricate lines and detailing of the water splashes are phenomenal! It also has a realistic feel because the submerged part of Spidey’s body appears as a faded red, which creates the effect of how he would appear if seen under water! With all of the air bubbles surrounding Spider-Man’s face, we can tell that he is struggling to breathe and to solidify his victory, the comic dialogue bubble reads: HYDRO-MAN WINS AT LAST!!

Furthermore, Venom’s evolution from villain to antihero has taken deep roots amongst avid readers, which in turn, has increased Venom’s fan base throughout mainstream pop culture. With the success of Venom (2018) and the highly anticipated Venom: Let There Be Carnage, which is scheduled to premiere on October 15, 2021, demand for Venom’s earliest cover appearances will only continue to rise to new heights!

With that being said, I consider ASM #315 a highly undervalued KEY book! I personally believe that all of Venom’s earliest Amazing Spider-Man cover appearances are going to gradually trend upwards in value, so I have been targeting the following issues in CGC 9.8 WP: 315-317, 331-333, 345-347, 362-363, 374-375 and 378-380!

Although ASM #315 is far from being rare, as there are more 9.8 copies on the CGC Census than any other grade, this particular 9.8 copy is exceptional because it is PERFECTLY WRAPPED and CENTERED and contains PERFECT WHITE PAGES! In addition, the staple placement is excellent, the book is perfectly cut and the color saturation is deep and bright!

In closing, I purchased this pristine beauty from martin1928 (via eBay) in April of 2021! The transaction and communication went extremely well and I’m proud to showcase this immaculate copy in Arachnophobia!

Happy Collecting & Enjoy the Hunt!
