Owner's Description

There is an old saying on the boards, "Buy the book not the slab." Then, there are the people that follow it has to be a 9.8. Most times when I get a book slabbed, 9.9 / 10 it is for signature series or that odd time for preserving a valuable book either sentimentally or monetary.

This book, was purchased solely for the label, which goes against my usual philosophy but seeing the label, I couldn't help myself.

Signed by John Romita on 2/21/20 & "Stan Lee 1/3/93" written on page 1 in marker.

Yes, it is not a witnessed signature. Yes, CGC usually throws collectors a bone when it is a very high talented person such as Stan Lee, Kevin Eastman, Peter Laird, and the like.

1/3/93 holds a special significance for me. I can tell you exactly what I did on that day. To have that day recognized with Stan Lee is icing on the cake.

This is not the first time this book came up for sale. Previously, it had been a raw book with just Stan Lee 1/3/93 noted in the auction but it wasn't the right time and it was one of those sales that haunted me.

So when I saw it now in signature series, it was one of the only times I placed a stupid money bet knowing it couldn't realistically go to that amount and hope for lower. It ended reasonably. Part of me wants to have a facilitator add Jim Mooney or Buscema to it so they can take a photo of the Stan Lee date for me, but a larger part of me worries that the notation would somehow get lost from the slab.

Grader Notes:
light spine stress lines to cover
light wear to cover
very light creasing to cover

Label Text:
""Stan Lee 1/3/93"" written on page 1 in marker.

Graded on 4/20/20

Now, I just need to get a raw copy to see what the story is about.
