Story Title:
(First story) - The Extremists, part four of five
(Second story) - Endangered Species chapter ten
By: Ed Brubaker
Artist: Salvador Larroca
Synopsis: (first story)
The X-Men are on Masque’s trail in the tunnels beneath New York City. Meanwhile, Charles Xavier and Nightcrawler are trying to locate Magneto and are on board the Blackbird. Skids, who has revealed herself as an undercover S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, informs the underground team that the Morlocks found a miracle in a woman named Qwerty. She could see how decisions and events would ultimately turn out, but this came at the cost of making her mind and body almost useless. When she saw M-Day coming, this acted as a catalyst and Qwerty decided to write everything down. Skids leads the team to a second faction of Morlocks who had not gone the way of Masque and his crew. They seem to believe that Qwerty’s writings mean a bright future for mutants. Unfortunately for Storm and the others, they have also resigned themselves to their fate. Meanwhile, Warpath and Hepzibah follow Masque’s trail and soon engage them. After a brief encounter, Warpath decides that they should flee and come up with a plan of action. However, when they next encounter Masque’s crew, Masque knows exactly how the fight will go, due to his interpretation of Qwerty’s book. Hepzibah is rendered unconscious by Bliss, and Masque gets the jump on Warpath, molding his features until he is on the verge of death. However, because the book didn’t prophesize his death, James is turned back to normal and left unconscious as Masque goes off to plant some bombs. Soon, the bombs go off, trapping Storm and her team underground along with Delphi’s faction. Charles Xavier feels Ororo’s terror, as the darkness closes in around her.

(second story)
Hank visits District X with Bishop, hoping to find something to keep his hopes up of finding a cure for the effects of M-Day. Bishop takes him to a dealer named Charlie Hustle. Inside his apartment are bottles full of blood containing mutant DNA, or at least they used to. Hank is informed that, when M-Day hit, the samples became worthless. He asks if he can buy his blood, or Bishop’s. He’ll pay top dollar. Hank’s frustration at seeing this lead fall flat comes out in aggressiveness. He grabs Charlie by the throat and holds him out of his window. He soon realizes that it’s not Charlie who’s dangling over the abyss. It’s him. He hurls Charlie across the room and Bishop says he is sorry he didn’t find what he was looking for. When asked why he doesn’t seem bothered by the extinction of the mutant race, Bishop replies that there are plenty in the future that he came from. A light comes on inside Hank’s mind. He has an idea.
