Owner's Description

ASM #196 is a bit different than most issues and it really doesn't have a major villain, although the Kingpin makes a cameo. Instead this is the faked death of Aunt May! Not that you can tell by the cover but the most key part of this issue is the first appearance of a backup character that was quite important to Peter over the next few years, Deb Whitman!

I really like this cover by Keith Pollard. It's got the very ominous cover with the shadows and the spooky tree. In this era there were a handful of these covers with the background image that's not inked looming over the foreground. Many of them have a pink or purple image too, which I find interesting. I think it worked great!
