Owner's Description

"Annie" movie adaptation. Tim Curry & Albert Finney photo cover.

Marvel Super Special issue 23 included the comic book adaptation of the film Annie from 1982.

This was an adaptation of an adaptation of another adaptation. This is because the film was based on the Broadway musical which was based on the Little Orphan Annie comic strip created by Harold Gray and syndicated by the Tribune Media Services.

The Marvel Super Special was adapted by writer Tom DeFalco, with art by Win Mortimer and Vince Colletta. This same adaptation was reprinted by Marvel in standard comic size as Annie issues 1 and 2. The adaptation included some very abbreviated scenes from the film (especially the bridge chase at the end of the film). The adaptation was followed by movie stills along with a Leonard Starr interview (who revived the comic strip after Harold Gray).
