Owner's Description

Sad...this was the final issue of Metal Men and 1st appearance of "The Inheritor", not to be confused with "Inheritor" from Marvel. Diana Prince...Wonder Woman also makes an appearance. Insanely tough issue to get a 9.8 with only 3 9.8s as of 2025...BUT...I nabbed one of them on 12/06/25. I also have a 9.6 acquired in 2015 and another 9.6 in 2020. I stumbled onto this 9.8 after random ebay browsing. Essentially 10 years of searching after my first 9.6.

Metal Men have gone on to appear in many other comics...well deserved. I have read where Metal Men was actually making a recovery in sales, but DC decided not to continue the series.

Synopsis: The Inheritor (TI) thinks the Metal Men (MM) are inferior and defective, and they need to be destroyed. Sure, their responsometers give them quirky human emotions, but no reason to destroy them, right? Will Magnus created TI as an all-in-one android that can control his atomic structure. TI was created to destroy the Missle Men from MM#55 (prev issue). TI attacks MM, but Will Magnus tries to tell TI he wants the MM to have free will, even though their programming needs a little adjustment.

Long story short, the Army attacks the MM and claims they paid for them and the MM are property of the Army after Will Magnus disposes of them. MM go to the United Nations to seek help from Diana Prince (Wonder Woman). They tell Diana that Batman is one of their best friends, and they know who she really is!! Diana takes the MM case to the UN General Assembly. Gold speaks to the UN, but is attacked by TI. The other MM sacrafice themselves to protect each other, which is mystifying to TI. Mercury shoves himself down TI's throat and shorts out his internal circuits (talk about achilles heel!!). The UN votes that the MM are "Citizens of the World" and the story ends (17 pages).

Too many ads in this issue. There is a full page ad for "Firestorm" to be release Dec 6, 1978. I had I think only Issue #1. Nowadays, people want way way too much money for a CGC 9.8 Firestorm #1.

I Loves My Metal Men!!
