An inventor named Thaddeus J Klodd has invented a metal that he claims is as good as iron or steel. Unfortunately his Kloddite is no better than the two aforementioned metals so nobody is interested. He decides that he'll make iron and steel useless so everyone will buy his metal. He has a machine that turns all iron and steel magnetic in the city causing all sorts of problems including traffic accidents. Capt Marvel arrives but the magnetism is so powerful that he's powerless to stop the attractions happening everywhere. He spots Klodd riding on a motorcycle made of Kloddite and the inventor touts the superiority of his metal. Cap smells a rat but Klodd deny's any involvement in the magnetism and rides off.

Capt Marvel is distracted when he has to prevent several more magnetic disasters. After taking care of the issue he finds Klodd and again asks him if he's responsible. Cap leaves but decides to return and investigate as Billy. He starts querying Klodd about his Kloddite and then tries to trick him into revealing he was behind the magnetism problem. Klodd reveals nothing but when Billy spots the magnetism machine he's knocked unconscious. Billy is bound and gagged but when Klodd tries to shoot Billy with a Kloddite gun the metal explodes and a shard rips away his gag. He transforms, knocks out Klodd and destroys the machine. Klodd and his Kloddite are a failure.

Suddenly, no one recognizes him and people start to laugh to at his red suit. A cop arrest Marvel for creating a disturbance and he's sentenced to 10 days in jail.

While sitting in prison the gnome appears and explains that it's his fault but he can't reverse the endless wish spell. Cap wishes for people to know him again and he's quickly released from prison. Cap continues to have problems with the wishes and while clobbering some crooks he wishes he could fight crime full time and not have to change back to Billy Batson. After taking the crooks in Cap speaks his magic word but nothing happens. It occurs to Cap what he's done and he bemoans the fact that he has essentially murdered Billy Batson.
