Owner's Description

Issue #51. Rick is recovering well from rest and the antibiotics taken. Carl discovers the pleasures of reading. They go house to house looking for food and shelter. Rick hears a phone ring as they are about to leave. A female voice is on the other line, she claims that she belongs to a group of fourteen people and that they are looking for a safe place to stay. They both agree to be talk to each other the following day at the same time. Rick is energized from the conversation.

Rick and Carl go out into the nearby woods with the intention to hunt wild game for food. They hear a scream for help. They find a man being overtaken by zombies. Carl attempts to save the man. Rick stops him from firing the gun. Rick explains that it was too late to save him and that shooting at the zombies would only attract unwanted attention; risking the zombies following them back to the house.

They discover the man's car full of extra gas, guns, and a week's worth of food. Carl questions why a man would leave all these supplies behind and walk into the woods without any weapons. They come to the conclusion that he was committing suicide.

Over the next few days, Rick and the stranger on the phone continue to talk and share information. When Rick finally asks for her name, the female on the other line claims that she is Lori (Rick's dead wife). Rick unplugs the phone but the line seems to still be connected with the voice. Rick realizes that he is delusional, and says goodbye to Lori. Carl finds his father weeping, but Rick does not share this situation with his son. Rick tells Carl that the lady on the the phone was crazy and dangerous and to forget her. They pack up their belongings into the car, and do a last check before leaving. Rick take the telephone with him.
