MM27 is indeed elusive as my friend would say. Only 26 total on census as of 2025 with 3 higher than this 9.2. At least this is a Northland Pedigree issue...the only one I own. I believe Northland was the name of an area northwest of Detroit where the original owner of the comics lived. The color on this particular book is exceptional. Frankly, I have not seen any High grade GGC MM27s in more years than I can remember...last one sold on Heritage in 2013.
Synopsis: This story is "The Startling Origin of the Metal Men". A reincarnation of Gengis Khan (GK) decides he wants to take over the world and starts by cutting off the heads of the Metal Men with a "Irreistible Beam" aka Laser Beam Sword. Platinum's head starts telling a rehash of the origin of the Metal Men with the giant Manta Ray (1st issue Showcase 37). It isn't a reprint, but a rehash. Then GK comes back to finish the MM off. The MM put the wrong heads on themselves (funny). The female tin robot known as Nameless grabs the laser sword, it falls to the ground and shoots GK (destroying him). Dr. Will Magnus puts the right heads back on the MM and everything is peachy.
I got a kick ouf the ad with the kid holding a Mattel "M-16 Marauder" toy machine gun, which came out in 1966. Obviously looks like a M16, but no such name Maraduer exists. You can probably buy the toy on ebay for a BLoad of money. Another ad said you can be "Astronaut Tough" with bodybuilding...too funny!!
