Story Title: Scaredy Cat!
Summary:
Illyana Rasputin (Magik) casts a spell one morning while alone in her room to project her astral self out to try to see if something has gone wrong with Kitty & Doug.
She travels astrally to the Academy they went to and finds Kitty trapped by Emma Frost underneath the academy. Doug, who Emma is also interested in, is being mentally deceived by the White Queen into thinking Kitty is with him. Emma wants Kitty to renounce the X-Men & is using all her psychic powers to try & accomplish it.
Then Kitty somehow sees Illyana & so does Emma, who mindblasts her! Back at the Mansion, she screams out from the blast & the New Mutants come running, only to have to do battle with a bunch of demon familiars who have escaped from Illyana in visually stunning fashion (check out the cover image!).
Once Magik comes back to her senses & the demons are safely tucked away again. She confesses to the others about being a sorceress as well as a mutant. Once she tells them of Kitty's plight, they try to contact the Fantastic Four & The Avengers as per the Prof's rules when he & the X-Men can't be reached.
However, pretty much the rest of the Marvel Universe is unreachable due to the Secret Wars saga that is currently going on. They decide to go help her themselves.
They pool together their money & go to the Bus Depot to get a ride to the Academy. Bobby & Rahne are suddenly mesmerized by some sort of mental calling from the church where they were injected with the experimental drug the previous summer (see Marvel Team-Up Annual #6 in my collection).
During the bus ride, Dani studies blueprints of the Academy, Bobby tells Amara of the different sights as they pass by & Sam has a heart to heart with Rahne about her worries over being some sort of hellspawn, just like she thinks Magik is. Sam comforts her.
They reach the Academy & Magma burns through the Earth to tunnel inside of the underground facility. Illyana leads them to the Lab where she last saw Kitty & they find her still strapped to the chair she was in.
But when Magik tries to untie her, they find out she was just a hologram. SURPRISE!!
Emma confronts them with a now supposedly cooperating Kitty Pride! She tells them they are going to come over to her side too, or will be destroyed in the process!
Illyana vows to move the Academy to hell itself if necessary if Kitty has been harmed!

PERSONAL COMMENTS:
Illyana is finally revealed as a sorceress to the others & they each have different reactions to it. I remember thinking that Illyana was doomed when I saw how the demons were flying' out of her eyes!
Just when I thought the drug mess was not going to amount to much, this issue got me really worried about Bobby & Rahne.
Sam & Rahne have a very touching moment on the bus ride. I wondered if these two were eventually going to fall in love with each other. They were sure on a track to it.
Man, how are they gonna get outta this mess! Boy, howdy, the kids are in for it now!
