Prior notes...
The other is signed by Klaus Janson only. It is for sale for $225.00. I am still waiting fo4r a reverse photo of the SS copy.

A single 9.9 has 300 points, the highest points for this issue.

CENSUS: as of June 2016.
A solo 9.9 copy. I have never seen it for sale or in a collection. Please find me...
92 copies in 9.8. About 10 new copies per year since 2013.
68 more copies in 9.6 out of 241 graded copies.
2 SS copies. 1 graded at 9.8, mine, a Signature by Klaus Janson.
This cover was laid out better than 176 even with the distractions of the friggin BICYCLE ad on the cover. They added back the DD letterbox on the upper left corner AND added "In His Strangest Adventure Yet" instead of the "The Man Without Fear" sub-title. The Miller/Janson artwork was all stuffed in below. The DAREDEVIL title font also gets skinnier...I would hate to be the layout guy.
There were separate Direct Issues and Newstand variants for issue number 177 and this pattern follows through the entire Daredevil Miller era run. I have been told the numbers of direct edition vs. newstand versions ranged proportionally 60-40 to 70-30 for each type, depending on the issue.
The newstand variants are much rarer in high grade, as they lived their life on a heavily fondled newstand, not in a direct edition mailer. This ratio also varies, with approximately one out of five (some issues one out of 20!) issues being graded 9.8 as the rarer Newstand Variant. Newstand Variants are hard to get.
Newstand variants have the price in a square box next to the issue number at the top of the letter box, the direct editions have the price and issue number in a diamond shape within the letter box.
A 50 cent issue. Probably some UK variants too.

VALUE:
Expect to now pay $100-150 for a basic 9.8WP Copy, easily more if excellent structure and more again if signed. And add a premium for the “Newstand variant”.
This is another nice comic to look at as an investment or for a SS attempt. The cover is...interesting...
I have seen no sketches on any SS copy.

CREATOR DETAILS:
Cover Artists, Frank Miller and Klaus Janson.
Writer, Frank Miller.
Penciler, Frank Miller.
Inker, Klaus Janson.
Colorist, Glynis Wein..
Letterer, Joe Rosen.

ISSUE TITLE "Where Angels Fear to Tread"

STORY LINE:
Stick helps his old pupil face his demons and regain his radar sense. The Bugle publishes an expose on Kingpin's candidate for Mayor of New York. Elektra is brought to Kingpin's attention. I think Frank Miller has a plan.
NOTES and TRIVIA:
I like this weird cover but still dislike the advertising money people within the cover artwork.
This is the last appearance of the "Storefront Legal Service". They reopen in Manhattan.

Published every month now.
First published in December 1981.
