"The Blood of Heroes" from Issue 0

Synopsis: At last - the landmark issue that laid the foundation for the future of the Valiant Universe, featuring the first appearance of Bloodshot! Guest-starring X-O Manowar, Archer, Shadowman, Toyo Harada, the Eternal Warrior and a cast of thousands, the next generation of Valiant heroes begins here! But just what is the Blood of Heroes? And how will it create a legacy that stretches from the modern day into the distant future?

Geoff, the Geomancer frees the hero known as Bloodshot from Project Rising Spirit. Years later, Shadowman dies to rid the world of the Darque Power! After that, the deaths of Archer, Aric and Bloodshot are all precursors to the great Harbinger Wars against Toyo Harada. During this struggle, the Blood of Heroes remains hidden. Finally, in 4002, Geomancer Rokland Tate bestows it upon Takao Konishi - the Last Rai!

This is a telling of the Rai history. It also gives us a detailed account of everything from The Unity Saga on up to the creation of Rai and The Future Force.

Along with that this issue serves as the origin story of Bloodshot.

"New Moon Asunder" from Issue 1

Synopsis: Meet Takao Konishi, the last Rai! With the Blood of Heroes coursing through his veins, Rai will lead humanity's liberation from the all-knowing, all-powerful sentient nation known as Grandmother. But when you upset Grandmother, you must be punished.

Now that the Grandmother computer no longer rules Japan, the orbiting nation is split between the ruling Humanist party, and the Healers, who want to restore computer control. When the Healers attempt to steal a component from the Skull-dome control center, Rai and Kazuyo find themselves forced to battle a deadly Grandmother drone! But the terrible fight is only a diversion, designed to hide the Healers' true objective.

In this issue we meet Makiko Minashi a man who was raised from birth to be the protector of the people of Japan. He takes the title of Rai. He follows the teachings of Japans master computer called Grandmother. This makes it impossible for him to pick a side in the impending revolution.

"Ice Burn" from Issue 2

Synopsis: Rai gets frostbite when Icespike strikes! Who is this mysterious new assassin and what has he sworn his life to protect? Only one thing is for sureā€¦ he wants Rai dead! Overwhelmed and outmatched by this vicious new foe, Rai must call on the unlikeliest of allies to win the day.

With many in Japan falling prey to Neo-plum addiction, Rai strikes at a facility producing the debilitating drug. But the task won't be easy, for the drug factory is guarded by Icespike, a super-assassin out to make his reputation by killing Rai. Rai and Kazuyo manage to beat him, but Icespike escapes capture. This defeat prompts the Healer leader, Councillor Seko, to make Rai's death his top priority.

In This issue, the followers of Grandma are angered at Rai for questioning her teachings at the end of issue #1. They end up hiring an assassin to kill the Rai, but soon regret it as he begins to attack any one or thing in order to complete his mission.

"The Devil in the Nerveweb" from Issue 3

Synopsis: The time for games is over, as Rai brings his war, to the Japanese government's front door! But with the home field advantage, Grandmother sends Rai into the belly of the beast -- literally! It's Rai versus a gargantuan metal monster -- place your bets!

Out to rid themselves of Rai, their greatest enemy, the Humanists sabotage Japan's Nerveweb. Rai attempts to travel through the web, only to find himself trapped within, facing an electronic monster! Meanwhile, Kazuyo is attacked by Healer assassin, Makiko. Kazuyo bests Makiko, even as Rai escapes from the Nerveweb trap. But Rai is losing favor with the people of Japan, and the Healers couldn't be happier about it!

In this issue we find that some of the Proclaimers advisors have told him he should cut his ties with the Rai, thanks to Rai's waining popularity. At the same time the Humanists try and make their move to kill Rai and his wife who is the owner of some X-O Armor.

"An Equality Of Slaughter" from Issue 4

Synopsis: The humanists launch a full-frontal assault against the healers! But without out the aid of Rai, are they walking into a slaughter? Meanwhile, Rai has a conversation with his father that will forever change the course of his life. It's revenge and reckonings in this status quo-shattering issue!

The Healers are about to launch a special rocket that will end Humanist control over Japan. Kazuyo leads government troops in an attack on the launch site, only to find Makiko waiting in her own battle-armor! Rai arrives in time to help Kazuyo beat Makiko, but the resulting battle knocks the Healer missile off-course. Thousands die as the projectile hits Japan, and Rai is dismayed to find that the people blame him for the carnage!

In this issue the followers of Grandma make a last ditch effort to bring the Grandmother Computer back to Japan. Rai goes against his teachings and mission to stop the followers from hurting any more of the Japanese, and he joins his wife in stopping them.
