Synopsis: When the debris from the refinery fire hits the lab complex, it causes the floor to collapse, and the helpless Ms. Marvel finds herself falling deeper underground, into a pit that was hidden beneath the lab. She blacks out before she hits bottom, and when she awakens, she finds that energy restraints are holding her in mid-air. Her costume and mask have been removed, replaced by a skintight white suit, and she is being observed by MODOK, who explains his loss of control over A.I.M. and his subsequent reclaiming of their West Coast division. He intends to use Ms. Marvel to help him take back all of A.I.M. and then the world. Through clandestine monitoring of Ms. Marvel, MODOK boasts that he’s learned her costume is the source of much of her powers, and has given the costume to one of his agents for testing. However, unbeknownst to MODOK, the circuitry web in the costume burned out during the fight with Grotesk and none of its abilities work. Undaunted, MODOK subjects Ms. Marvel to his mind-ripper to bend her to his will.
Feigning unconsciousness, Ms. Marvel gets MODOK to order her released from the energy restraints, whereupon she attacks the A.I.M. agents in the giant lab. But her conditioning has been completed, and she freezes at the sound of MODOK’s voice, who orders her to kill the now-useless female agent wearing her costume. However, only Ms. Marvel’s persona has been enslaved; Carol Danvers remains free, and fights the conditioning until it breaks. Ms. Marvel begins the attack anew, discovering to her surprise that she can fly without the costume. She grabs the female A.I.M. agent, flying off to change back into her costume, and realizes that her recent exposure to the Kree Psyche-Magnitron radiation must have transferred the suit’s abilities to her own body.
The battle blasts holes in the walls, and Ms. Marvel finds a subway tunnel behind one of them. She escapes, finding A.I.M. agents that are not loyal to MODOK some distance down the tunnel. MODOK’s agents break off pursuit, placing priority on resealing the tunnel to hide their presence from the other A.I.M. division. Ms. Marvel escapes the A.I.M. base into Alden’s Department Store, where she transforms back into Carol Danvers, blending into the crowd of innocent shoppers. Carol leaves the store unnoticed, but is left wondering about the strange duality of her co-existence with Ms. Marvel and with a determination to settle the score with A.I.M.
