My breakdown of issue 1
Writer Greg Rucka starts off issue one with an amazing story for the first arc called "The Lies Part One" and artist Liam Roger Sharp has done wonders for the story with his detailed art and coloring.
Issue one is two different stories both taking place in the country of Bwunda. We find Steve Trevor in a military operation that is being directed by Commander Etta Candy via satellite out of Langley Virginia. Steve is on a mission to find and apprehend a group of men terrorizing the country lead by a person named Cadulo who is on a murdering spree and kidnapping the woman from local villages. When Commander Candy discovers that Wonder Woman has been spotted within the country she accuses Steve of compromising security and asked if he told Wonder Woman, Steve denies doing so.
The second part of the story has Wonder Woman within Bwunda calling out to the jungle to an unknown person saying she will have the truth and nothing makes sense and is here to talk. Throughout the issue Wonder Woman says she will give three chances but is repeatedly attacked by werewolf looking creatures. After each successful battle Wonder Woman asks to be faced and listened to, finally at the end of the issue she is attacked on last time to find Cheetah on top of her. Wonder Woman says, “…Themyscira! I can’t find it, I can’t Find my way home. Barbara Ann, Please help me find my way back home.”
This was an amazing way to start off the first issue in DC’s rebirth for Wonder Woman. A few changes have been made such as Steve Trevor isn’t an Army Colonel but a Navy Master Chief. And Commander Etta Candy is now a slightly overweight African American military commander for A.R.G.U.S. Originally back in the Golden age of Wonder Woman Etta Candy was a young college student, Caucasian, extremely short and grossly overweight.
All in all I REALLY enjoyed this issue, especially with Greg Rucka writing it, keep in mind his last work on Wonder Woman was 10 years ago in Wonder Woman (Volume 2) #226. It should also be noted that this issues story arc will be featured in the odd number issues while the even numbered issue will contain a separate story line. This was done so that the two separate artists could make the 1 month deadlines to get the issue completed verses every two weeks since the issue is bi monthly.
