Owner's Description

In 1983 when I went into the United States Army as a Chaplain's Assistant I had already given all my comic books to the kid down the street in the hopes of keeping the torch going by encouraging comic book reading. I concentrated on learning my job and applying kindness and compassion to those I interacted with. When I wore my Army uniform I felt like a potential hero for the first time in my life. I was an Ambassador in my field and the Army in general and I didn't take it lightly. I met many good people while working in the service who felt the same way and although I no longer was reading comic books I never stopped living the ideals of what heroes like Superman embodied. So when I saw the Crisis on Infinite Earths comics in the PX I browsed through them but it wasn't until a friend told me of all the changes going on in the DC universe that I returned to comic reading. The death of the Flash and the multiverse caught me by surprise. I have had the joy of teaching my three children all about the classic Super Heroes and now that they are grown up two of the three have continued being fans. My son who ran in track shares my love for the Flash and when my Dad passed away he didn't know what he could say to help me through the mourning. He took me to our local comic shop and bought me Crisis on Infinite Earths #7 and ordered this copy of Crisis #8. It was his way of letting me know he was there for me as was the picture he asked John Wesley Shipp to sign for me with this special message. I felt my son's heartfelt hug when I needed it and he showed me through his actions what I already knew deep inside. When we really need each other we will always be there ...in a Flash.
