Owner's Description
In Issue #51, Mera reveals that, after determining the truth of Ocean Master's story, she let him go. But Atlantis is now menaced by Black Manta, and Mera, despairing, tries to will Aquaman to return. Meanwhile, in the other realm, Aquaman finds that Brother Warnn cannot help him. Despite the girl Citizen's attempts to induce him to stay in their church, Aquaman leaves, battling his way past guards, and is followed by the girl, who now regards him as her friend. Later, a long distance from the city, they encounter a tribe of caveman-type telepaths. The girl, offended that they use sacred telepathy outside a church, fires at them, though Aquaman deflects their shot. Her folly has now stirred the cave-tribe against them, and Aquaman prepares to do battle.
Our WP 9.8 comes from the Pacific Coast Collection, which is generally considered to be the greatest Silver Age collection to ever surface. It was brought to market by Robert Roter after he discovered portions of it for sale on E-Bay in 1999. The books were marketed through PCE over the next several years and contained over 7,000 comics and magazines that included Marvel, DC, and Gold Key among others, covering a time span between 1961 and 1977. Many of the highest graded Marvel and DC issues from the early '60s hail from this collection with exceptional page quality. The books do not exhibit any distinguishing markings
The book was signed by Neal Adams on 10/27/12. It is the single highest graded Signature Series copy and tied with a single Universal label 9.8 overall. We acquired the book from the 5/2/2023 Heritage Auction.*
2024 Update: There are now two Universal label 9.8s, but ours has WP, comes from the Pacific Coast Collection and is signed by Neil Adams, it’s still the best!
