While elsewhere in the sewers, X-Factor is recovering from their battle with the Freedom Force. With Rusty injured, Cyclops sends Marvel Girl and Angel back to the compound with him, and Rusty's new friend, the female Morlock named Skids accompanies them. Cyclops, Beast and Iceman stay behind to search for Artie Maddicks, who ventured down into the tunnels to find Rusty earlier and is now lost. By engaging they two Marauders, Cyclops, Beast, and Iceman save the lives of Morlocks Erg and Beautiful Dreamer. -This is part of the Mutant Massacre event.
-Prism is the Marauder with the worst luck on the planet, he is killed in this issue but Sinister will clone him a number of times in the future only to get smashed up again (pardon the pun, but what a tough break).
The cover of this issue also marks the 25th anniversary of Marvel where all the covers that month featured a framed border.

Synopsis:
A regrouped X-Factor continues to battle the demonic horde that has invaded Manhattan, and are confronted by a cryptic N’astirh, who has baby Christopher. To complicate matters, the demonically transformed Madelyne Pryor arrives. Madelyne is also cryptic as she talks about what Jean has had, and what she has only had taken away from her. Madelyne prepares to kill Jean, but N’astirh stops her, as that is not part of his plan. X-Factor continues to battle the mass of demons, while Jean mounts a rescue of baby Christopher, only to be restrained by her parents, whom Madelyne earlier transformed into demons. X-Factor urge Cyclops to take a harder stance against Madelyne, and they prepare to attack her as she announces that she will destroy everyone Cyclops loves, and personally kill the baby. Madelyne repels X-Factor, and as they are stunned, appears in her normal guise, asking Cyclops why he is doing this to her - just as Wolverine arrives on the scene, placing a hand on Jean, he announces that he has to make sure she is real.

Synopsis:
Madelyne Pryor has captured Marvel Girl, and prepares her final revenge on Cyclops. The X-Men and X-Factor gather on a ledge of the demonically transformed Empire State Building, Madelyne sends her demons against the X-Men, who are trying to rescue Marvel Girl and save Cyclops’ baby from being sacrificed. However, the X-Men and X-Factor are still at odds and fight with each other until Cyclops and Storm call a truce. Madelyne manages to get Angel, Longshot, and Dazzler on her side, but Cyclops ends up fighting with his brother Havok, Madelyne’s Goblyn Prince, who is very unhappy with Cyclops. Marvel Girl is freed and battles Madelyne, the two eventually being encased in a force bubble courtesy of Madelyne - one that the X-Men and X-Factor cannot breakthrough. Marvel Girl and Madelyne battle, while Marvel Girl tries to talk Madelyne down, yet Madelyne is full of hate. Cyclops and Havok continue to battle, and Havok is about to hurt Cyclops really bad, until Angel stops him, overcoming Madelyne’s orders. Madelyne reveals to Marvel Girl how she came to be, her memory of Annie Richardson, and the Phoenix, while Marvel Girl remembers rejecting the Phoenix when it came to her when she was in the cocoon. Madelyne explains that when Marvel Girl rejected the Phoenix, it came to her, and she awoke. While Wolverine, Storm, Iceman, and the others continue to try and break the force field, they soon realize they need a better plan, and Cyclops promises Havok that they will save Madelyne. Madelyne reveals more of her history to Marvel Girl - being placed with Cyclops’ grandparent’s airline, meeting Cyclops, the birth of her son, the Marauders’ attack on her, and her allying herself with the X-Men. After Psylocke managed to snap Longhshot out of his depressed state, he revealed to the X-Men where the best part of the force bubble to attack is, and Dazzler, Havok, and Cyclops combine their powers, aiming at the one spot. Madelyne informs Marvel Girl about her desire to get revenge on Cyclops and her affiliation with N’astirh. Marvel Girl tells Madelyne that they can offer her a haven where she can grow and become her own person, but Madelyne is not interested. An instant later, the X-Men and X-Factor break the force field. Cyclops rescues his son, while Madelyne unleashes her fury, and prepares to commit suicide, while linked to Marvel Girl. Marvel Girl is almost killed but saves herself by integrating the Phoenix and Madelyne into herself. With Madelyne dead, the inferno that had consumed the city fades away, transformations fade, and Cyclops and Marvel Girl are reunited, together and with Cyclops’ son. But the effects of the inferno can still be felt by those is had a strong impact on - Longshot, Dazzer, Havok, and Angel. Havok is still mad at Cyclops, while Marvel Girl is concerned about Madelyne, and the X-Men and X-Factor vow to find Mr. Sinister, the man responsible for her creation, and get their revenge.

Synopsis:
Rictor and the mutated Wolfsbane make their way through the Genoshan Citadel, when they come across Cameron Hodge, whom Wolfsbane attacks. Nearby, Cable and Storm learn of the attack and make their way to the corridor. Hodge is aware of them coming and shoves his stinger through Cable. While Storm attacks Hodge, Cable is able to radio Cyclops, who is with Wolverine and Marvel Girl. Cyclops subsequently radios Archangel and sends him to help Cable. Cyclops tells Jean that when they reach Hodge, she is to stay away from him, causing Wolverine to get annoyed and suggest to Cyclops that he stop telling Jean what to do. The men argue, before Jean points out that she is capable of looking after herself. Archangel arrives just in time to help Storm, but the hate between him and Hodge runs deep, and their battle is brutal, resulting in Archangel getting captured and Hodge preparing to slice his head off. In the prison, Beast manages to free himself, but the others are still unconscious. Seeing some mutants nearby, the Beast plans to use them to help him. Havok arrives in the corridor just in time to save Archangel from decapitation by attacking Hodge. Wolverine, Cyclops, and Jean Grey aren’t far behind, and they join in the battle, although Hodge manages to shove his stinger into Wolverine’s back and injure Jean. Jubilee, Cannonball, Sunspot, and Boom-Boom, who is carrying the ashes of Warlock, are soon found by the Beast, who is with the mutants that are carrying the others. They then meet up with Chief Magistrate Anderson, who is holding the President of Genosha at gunpoint. Hodge makes his way to the top of the Citadel, where he is attacked by Cyclops and Havok, who combine their powers. The rest of the mutants are all reunited below, and watch as the citadel explodes. Havok and Cyclops continue to pour the power on, and eventually, all that is left of Hodge is his head, which still causes trouble, as he extends his tongue and wraps it around Havok, throwing him off the top of the Citadel. Jean catches Havok and Cyclops in a telekinetic field when they fall from the ledge, while Hodge’s head is found by Wolfsbane, who tears it apart and throws it under the Citadel as it collapses thanks to a seismic wave created by Rictor. In the aftermath, Genosha is put under military control, while the President is placed under custody. Havok warns Chief Magistrate Anderson that he will be keeping an eye on Genosha, as he will be remaining on the island, while Wolfsbane announces that she, too, is staying, and asks the New Mutants to scatter Warlock’s ashes on Cypher’s grave. Upon returning to Westchester, they do just that.
