Set Description:

Almost complete CGC run of Black Terror's own title. At this writing, I am missing only issue to complete this set and most have been slabbed with some still raw. Perhaps the most noted of all of Nedor's (I know I shouldn't refer to this and other series as only Nedor but do so simplicity sake) heroes as he has gained present-day popularity through several titles among different publishers.

The Black Terror was Bob Benton, a pharmacist, who through some experiments created "Formic Ethers" by mistake which he inhaled. He gained Super Strength and Invulnerability. A stand-up sort of guy, Bob decided to do something he'd always day-dreamed about and use his strength to fight crime and evil. His young assistant, Tim Roland, decided to inhale the same vapors. Bob became the Black Terror and along with Tim were known as the Terror Twins.

I consider BT's costume to be one of the best of the Golden Age and the series was fairly high quality with Schomburg covers and Mort Meshkin and Jerry Robninson artwork in the latter issues. These two creators also shared their talents in the Fiighting Yank series.

My goal is to complete runs of all the major Nedor, Better, Standard titles which includes: America's Best Comics, Black Terror, Exciting, Fighting Yank, Startling, Thrilling and Wonder Comics.

A great wartime cover by Alex Schomburg with the Black Terror socking a Nazi U-boat commander! And take a look at BT - notice something missing - like his mask!

BT smashes up a Japanese counterfeit bond making plant on this cover. Lots of wild Schomburg action as the Fighting Nemesis of Crime explodes with fists of fury. A very nice mid grade copy of a fairly tough issue.

BT and Tim take to the skies in heroic fashion on a couple of flying torpedoes. Again, Schomburg delivers on the wartime cover. This is the Okajima copy which is near the top of my pedigree status because of the back story of this ped. It is a beautiful copy of this issue with great page quality to boot.

Oh wow, what a cover. I know you can't label every Schomburg a classic but this one is pretty darned cool. Brutal and heroic and of course propaganda-rich. The poor zero pilot in the forefront not gets it from the Terror Twins but also from the other zero plane, whose pilot is being choked by BT. Ouch and all head shots. A very solid mid grade copy.

Pilotless bombs prove no match for the Terror Twins who get a helping hand from soldiers at Supreme Allied HQ. I'm always intrigues by Schomburg design and innovativeness as a few issues prior we saw flying torpedoes and now pilotless bombs. Many of his Timely covers also showcased this - especially a few Marvel Mystery that come to mind.

A pretty gruesome cover as the soldiers are about to be executed in graves, we assume, were dug by them. But BT saves the day with his fist while Tim plugs aways with a machine gun in the background. A decent mid-grade copy of this one.

A very nice Schomburg war cover graces this copy as the Nazis take a lickin' from the Black Terror and his teen pal, Tim. This is the Big Apple pedigree copy.

Wow - GIANT TELEVISION!! BT bursts through in 3D fashion on this cover. I think it fascinating how the cover shows BT killing the Japanese soldiers as the kids look on in amusement. True propaganda I guess but seems pretty violent for the youngsters. One at least seems a little stunned and the little is turning away and plugging her ears. But hey, Giant Television is still a pretty cool invention.

A nice-looking pedigree copy of this issue from the Davis Crippen pedigree. BT still looks pretty heroic on this post-war cover. The cover colors are still bright and vibrant on this nice copy.

Another Crippen pedigree - this time a nice 9.0 grade. This is a fun cover as the Terror breaks up a sabotage group that is attempting to blow up a radar station. And not just any old radar station but the US Army Radar to the Moon, no less. And Liquid Fire proves no match for BT.
