Wonder Woman
Wonder Woman first featured in All Star Comics issue 8 in December 1941. Her second appearance was in Sensation Comics issue 1 in January 1942.
In her homeland island nation of Themyscira, Wonder Woman's official title is Princess Diana of Themyscira. When blending into society outside of her homeland, she sometimes adopts her civilian identity Diana Prince.
In addition to Lynda Carter (1974-79) and Gal Gadot (2016-date), 28 other actors have played and/or voiced Wonder Woman see here.
Creation of the Wonder Woman character
Wonder Woman was created by William Moulton Marston (pen name Charles Moulton), 1893-1947. He was an American psychologist, and with his wife, Elizabeth Holloway, invented an early prototype of the lie detector. Two women, his wife and their polyamorous life partner, Olive Byrne, are said to have greatly influenced Wonder Woman's creation. On his death, he was succeeded by Robert Kanigher who was the writer of the comic for over twenty years until 1968. Marston was inducted into the Comic Book Hall of Fame in 2006.
The first Wonder Woman artist was H.G. (Harry George) Peter, 1880-1958, even though he was uncredited in her creation. Although Marston died in 1947, Peter continued with Wonder Woman until his death in 1958. He was succeeded by Ross Andru, who began a nine-year run starting with issue #98 (May 1958), where he and writer Kanigher reinvented the character, introducing the Silver Age version and her supporting cast.
Publication history
Since 1942, her adventures have been chronicled in six volumes of DC comics as well as books, movies and TV shows. Here is the comic history:
• Volume 1: issues 1-329 (June 1942 to February 1986), 600-614 (August 2010-October 2011), and 750-800 (March 2020-August 2023). After Vol1, #800, the series was numbered from Vol6, #1
• Volume 2: issues 1-226, plus 0 and 1,000,000 (February 1987 to 2006)
• Volume 3: issues 1-44, plus one annual (August 2006 to July 2010). After Vol3, #44, the series reverted to legacy numbering (Vol1, #600)
• Volume 4: issues 1-52, plus 0, 23.1, 23.2 and one annual (September 2011 to July 2016)
• Volume 5: issues 1-83 (August 2016 to February 2020). After Vol5, #83, the series reverted to legacy numbering (Vol1, #750).
• Volume 6: issues 1-xx (November 2023-xxx). Vol6, #17 (LGY #817) was March 2025.

Wonder Woman 5 with variant cover by Frank Cho. The cover is subtly marked CHO and WW75 in the bottom right-hand corner.
This beautiful comic with WHITE Pages was signed by comic interior artist Liam Sharp in black sharpie (in his distinctive style) on 28 October 2016, and graded by CGC into the prestigious Signature Series.
Notes on the artist, who was born locally to me: Liam Roger Sharp is a British (born in Derby on 2 May 1968) comic book artist, writer, publisher, and co-founder/CCO of Madefire Inc. He made his debut in the 1980s for the science fiction magazine 2000AD after a year's apprenticeship with Don Lawrence, artist on the Dutch comic Storm. His works included many Judge Dredd stories, the origin of Finn, ABC Warriors series and one of Tharg's Future Shocks. He later moved to Marvel UK, for which he drew the mini-series Death's Head II. Then he began working mainly in the United States on books as diverse as X-Men, Hulk, Spider-Man, Venom, Man-Thing (for Marvel Comics), Superman, Batman (for DC Comics) and Spawn: The Dark Ages (for Todd McFarlane). On 9 April 2011 Sharp was one of 62 comics creators who appeared at the IGN stage at the Kapow! convention in London to set two Guinness World Records, the Fastest Production of a Comic Book, and Most Contributors to a Comic Book. In 2017 Derby Museum hosted a ten week long retrospective of Liam's work, spanning his career from 2000AD to Wonder Woman. Liam was recently awarded a wrought-iron and mosaic star in the city's #MadeInDerby2 campaign, which can be found outside the Standing Order pub in the cathedral quarter.

Wonder Woman 63: The New World.
First appearance of Nemesis.
This is the Kamome Shirahama Variant cover.
This was my 4th Wonder Woman CGC-graded comic.
Story summary: When Themyscira and the remnants of Olympus fell, the Gods weren't the only refugees to come to Earth. A small horde of mystical creatures have found their way here, and they're determined to start new lives...but what happens when the people of our world are equally determined not to let them? Can Diana open their minds and show them that a centaur is more than half a person? This issue is quite corny, but will hopefully lead to something good in its story arc. We find that Pegasus, Faun and Minotaur (from the last few issues) in a DC customs office looking for help but they aren’t taken seriously, as they look like animals. They break out, and finding themselves hungry, they stop at a diner for food. Again, they have problems as they look like aniimals. The Faun convinces the waitress to help them, and as they are outside Wonder Woman shows up with Ferdinand the Minotaur to help them out. Ferdinand and the female Minotaur (Eirene) have questions, and the two of them walk off talking to each other. In the end we see Dr. Cale in her mansion with what appears to be a dark and dangerous person/creature chained up in a secure room.

Getting to issue #750 has taken a more winding road than the other two landmark issues, with a few different volumes being published over the years, but this honour is an important milestone in the comic universe.

My copy is double-signed by the new WW writer Tom King, and by artist Joëlle Jones. It has been graded into CGC’s prestigious Signature Series.
Wonder Woman #799 and #800 are the two-issue goodbye from the creative team. That's it. There's no story. It's a series of vignettes where Wonder Woman meets and emotionally validates every person in her life. The backup introduces the world to Trinity, Wonder Woman's daughter who will act as the title's focus when Tom King takes over from #801 (Vol.6, #1); Trinity is everything Wonder Woman is not and more, some say truly insufferable.
CGC census 3/2025 = 264. 242 @9.8, 2 higher @9.9. Fifteen @9.8SS, none higher.
