Set Description:

Superboy 1-258!

Jan. 2024. I did a bunch of upgrades in 2023 which not only upgraded some of my favorite issues (30 & 35) but several others as well getting me the points to retake the top registry spot!

Jan, 2020: I am on a quest to retake the top registry slot for this title by upgrading raw books mostly from the mid 1960's with 9.2's or better.

As of May 19, 2017, I have completed this set with the purchase of a #1 from a Heritage Auction.

I started collecting Superboy As part of my "Superman Family" collection around 1985. I picked up a nice number 48 from Sparkle City Comics in the late 80's and that book remained my oldest issue until 2003, when I decided in ernest to go for a complete set.

In the late 2000's I completed 2-258 and was hopeful to find a number 1 soon. I noticed that many #1's were either miscut or had poor staple placement. Additionaly the colors seemed dull and/or there was writing or dirt on the cover. Given how iconic of a cover the book had and how it would be the showpiece of my set, I decided to just wait for the right copy to come along. I never thought it would take so,long!

I either bought or had stabbed 2-26 along the way for my registry set. I am always on the lookout for issues that will upgrade some of mine. While my set overall is pretty nice, there are issues I would like to get better copies of.

What do I like about Superboy, why do I collect it? Well for one it was a childhood favorite. I still remember some of the issues I read as a kid in the early 1970's. I was also a huge fan of the Legion and of course Superboy was integral to them.

Also, collecting a complete Superman collection is an almost impossible feat due to the scarcity of number 1 and the overall price. I have now competed Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen and Superboy.

So what are some of my favorite issues? I really like 5 with the Supergirl cover, 6 with the red cover and, 11 with the first Lana Lang cover and 26, which I like for no particular reason.

I found collecting a nice run of Superboy to be both challenging and fun, it really is a great series that spans 30 years.
