Signature Series book. Beautiful cover of Dazzler being "managed" by Storm
Dazzler is influenced by the Maurauder Malice. During a concert she exposes her cover of being a mere keyborder and steals the limelight from Lila Cheney. Later on she dances in a nightclub and makes no secret of her light powers. Lila is concerned and calls the X-Men. Wolverine, Storm, Rogue and Psylocke investigate, and Malice does some body-jumping, making the X-Men fight each other. Finally Betsy understands what’s going on and they make Malice enter Storm, who has the will power to resist the Marauder’s influence. The psychic entity then leaves, though feeling victorious as she made the X-Men say things to each other that will not be easy to forget. Dazzler is told to join the X-Men, as she is a too obvious target for the Marauders.

Brief Description:
In her hospital bed, Madelyne Pryor has a nightmare about being the sole survivor of a plane crash. She is brought to an ambulance, but the paramedics seem familiar and Madelyne realizes she is in trouble. She breaks free, but is eventually gunned down by two of the Marauders. Madelyne finally wakes up from her coma, much to the surprise of two doctor, who have been treating the unconscious woman for weeks. At Xavier’s, the X-Men load up the wounded onto the Blackbird. They’re going to take them to Moira MacTaggert’s in Scotland. Only Storm and Wolverine are staying behind. During the flight Shadowcat, still stuck in phased state, walks up to the sleeping Longshot and gives him a kiss. He wakes up and feels death within Kitty. Meanwhile, Storm and Wolverine take a trip to Sara Grey’s house. They arrive and find the place on fire. Wolverine picks up a familiar scent and goes berserk. He knocks Storm out and runs away. Storm wakes up in a prison cell. She escapes and finds out she’s in a building filled with animal heads and war memorabilia. The owners of the building come back, they are three super-powered war veterans by the names of Crimson Commando, Super Sabre and Stonewall. After a big fight, Storm is subdued. Later, she finds out she and another girl are going to be hunted by these three men. They get a head start and take advantage of it. At sunset the men go hunting.
Full Summary:
(mix of nightmare and flashbacks)
A plane is coming into the San Francisco International Airport. Its left wing is on fire. It turns out that two engines are blown and the hydraulics are gone. The plane hits the runway and the left wing flies right off. The cabin catches on fire, sending people screaming. The plane continues skidding down the runway. It suddenly explodes into a huge fireball. Only one person emerges from the flames… Madelyne Pryor. Behind her the flames form the shape of the Phoenix.
(present)
Outside near the Blackbird’s takeoff, Wolverine is crouching, smoking a cigarette. Storms walks over to talk to him. She wants to know why he’s been so quiet since they returned from Dallas. Wolverine tells her he’s upset with himself after almost killing her. She assures him it wasn’t his fault. Malice really messed with their minds that day. She goes on to tell him she has a job she needs to do and wants him there for backup. He stands up, flicks away his cigarette and tells her he’s ready.
Upstate New York, Storm and Wolverine are in a car driving on a back road. Storm talks about their previous encounter with Malice and how it’s messed up the team. The X-Men feel as though they can no longer trust each other. Wolverine agrees with her. He’s upset about the whole thing because his senses were out of whack. He almost killed Storm because he couldn’t tell if she was friend or foe. He wonders how he can trust anyone without his senses working. Storm interrupts him; they’ve arrived.
Storm stops the car and they both get out. In front of them stands the fiery remains of Sara Grey’s house, Jean’s sister. They run over to the house and start searching for clues. Storm wonders if it was an attack by the Marauders or something else. Wolverine can smell dynamite and knows it was no accident. The bright side is, he doesn’t smell any dead bodies either. Storm’s mind fills with deep regret. The X-Men now pose a threat to their friends and families. Their enemies are sinking to new lows, not going after the X-Men, but the ones close to them. She realizes they should start warning everyone they know. Immediately she thinks of Forge. She wonders if she should swallow her pride and go back to him. He promised he would work on a device that would restore her powers.
Wolverine picks up the scent of two people. The first one is Cyclops and the second one he recognizes as Jean Grey. A look of shock crosses his face. He bolts upright. He had loved Jean when she was alive and the scent has brought back strong feelings. Storm grabs his shoulder in an attempt to find out what’s bothering him. Wolverine instinctively swings backwards with his fist, knocking Storm unconscious. In his current state he doesn’t realize what he’s done. He doesn’t even notice her lying on the ground as he runs off into the fog.
Over Muir Island, the Blackbird makes its descent. Most of the passengers on board are sleeping. A transparent Kitty Pryde walks through the cabin doors up to the front where the X-Men are seated. She looks at the sleeping Longshot lovingly. She hates the fact that she’s probably going to die. She wishes someone could help her. Rogue spots her and tells her to get back to her lifecell. Kitty, realizing this may be her last opportunity, plants a kiss on Longshot. He awakens much to Kitty’s surprise. He calls out to her, but she runs away, back to her lifecell. Longshot confesses to Rogue that when Kitty kissed him, he could “read” who she was. He could sense that death was near.
Elsewhere, Storm wakes up, but not where she last remembered being. Instead, she’s chained up in a prison-like cell. She reaches for a lockpick hidden in her shirt. She frees herself and opens the cell door. She doesn’t see anyone so she heads out into the hallway. She wonders if Wolverine is down there too. She has no idea what could have sent him off into a berserker rage. She peers into a nearby cell and sees a young woman chained up inside, sleeping. She continues her search hoping to find more out about the place and how she got there. She finds a set of stairs and follows them upwards. She opens another door and enters what looks like a hunting lodge. There are lots of animal heads and war memorabilia hanging up on the walls.
She looks out the window and sees three figures in the distance walking towards the lodge. She catapults herself onto the second floor and waits for them to enter. A minute later, two of them walk in muttering about how easy their hunt was. It seems they were hunting a man. She wonders where the third is. Her answer comes when he grabs her by the shirt and picks her up in the air.
He gets all cocky with her and tells her she’s going to be punished. Storm replies with a swift kick to the face. Then she grabs his head and flips him over the railing and onto the first floor. Storm makes a run for it, but is stopped after only a few feet by Super Sabre. She cuts back the other way, but once again he’s there to stop her. She realizes he must have super-speed. Finally, he introduces himself. He gives her the Mach-One Punch as he calls it and Storm goes flying backwards. She falls into the man called Stonewall. He tells her he can’t be knocked down. He reaches his arm out to help her up and receives a two-fingered eye poke for his troubles. She back flips out of his reach and grabs the rug he’s standing on. She yanks with all her might, sending him falling to the floor and toppling the Crimson Commando as well. Ororo runs towards the door, but to no avail. Super Sabre gets there first and blocks her off. She takes a swing at him, but he easily dodges it and moves behind her putting her in a half nelson. He snaps his fingers near her ear, generating a microsonic boom that knocks her out.
Storm becomes angry. She wants to know where they get off treating them like sport. The Crimson Commando introduces himself and his men as heroes from World War II. They’re retired now and they’re sick of all the problems in the world… drugs, disease, sex, etc. They’re ashamed of the world they fought to protect. This is their way of making a stand. They go on to tell Storm the other girl’s history. Her name is Priscilla and she was a drug dealer along with her boyfriend Tommie. They were both from rich and powerful families and were able to avoid punishment due to their families’ connections. So they snatched the two of them and brought back. They tell Storm the reason they grabbed her. They found her unconscious at the house that caught on fire. She had possessions on her from inside.
Ororo explains that it was her friend’s house and the possessions were evidence. She tells them she’s no criminal. However, she also knows that even if they believe her they won’t let her go, as she already knows too much. So Storm takes Priscilla by the hand and runs off into the woods. Around sunset, Storm and Priscilla stop atop a hill. Storm stops to look around for any nearby roads. There aren’t any in sight so she heads over to where Priscilla is sitting. Priscilla’s feet hurt and she wants to know if they can take a quick rest. Storm tells her it would be ok, but they must get going soon. She wonders to herself if she can really trust this girl. She puts her arm around her and they continue moving. Storm realizes at this point that Wolverine probably isn’t coming for her. She also knows even though Priscilla is a bad person, she will watch out for her for the fates demand it.
From far off, the trio of war heroes gives chase to Storm and Priscilla.

Brief Description:
Muir Island, where the X-Men are running a training exercise. It's a night-op and it's Psylocke versus the rest of the team. Rogue and Dazzler hit her hard, but Psylocke manages to best them. It's not until Longshot's crazy luck enters the equation that Psylocke is beaten. Afterwards they meet for breakfast with Banshee, who goes over their training with them. His main gripe is lack of teamwork. Later on, the X-Men are in the gym working out. Callisto and Dazzler end up going head to head, resulting in Dazzler storming off and heading to the mainland. Once there she goes to a pub and has the time of her life. She even wonders if she should stay an X-Men. After the party's over, she leaves and is almost run down by Cain Marko. Intent on proving herself, she goes after him. It turns out that Juggernaut's a big fan of her work and doesn't want to fight her. It's too bad that Dazzler doesn't feel that way. After none of her tricks work, she waits for Juggs to get close. When he's near, she throws everything she has at him. It doesn't work and the stress kills her, or so Juggernaut thinks.
Characters Involved:
Dazzler, Longshot, Psylocke, Rogue (all X-Men)
Banshee (former X-Man)
Moira MacTaggert
Callisto
Toby, patron of Black Ned's pub
Conal and other customers of the pub
Unnamed Captain, Geordie and Wullis, crew-members aboard the ship, Mary Rose
Juggernaut
Story Notes:
Psylocke was given bionic eyes by Mojo in New Mutants Annual #2.
When Rogue was still a member of the Brotherhood of evil Mutants, she and Dazzler had a longstanding feud running in Dazzler's own title [Dazzler # 22-24; 28].
The Mary Rose /Dr. Doom subplot is in reference to events coming up in the "Fantastic Four vs. The X-Men" limited series.
Longshot makes a humorous comment about breakfast, "Dead, burned animal flesh and unborn baby birds? Yum!"
Rogue replies, "Don't be gross, Longshot, those are just ham 'n' eggs."
Rogue?s first hissy fit happened in Uncanny X-Men #216.

Brief Description:
Dazzler, it turns out, wasn't dead, but just unconscious. After summoning enough strength to create a lightblast, she's rescued by her fellow X-Men. The team has a heart-to-heart and Dazz decides to stay with them. They hear a radio report that the Juggernaut is terrorizing Edinburgh and head over to check it out. Rogue's the first to reach Juggs and take him on. She's soon beaten and one by one the X-Men attack him and are nearly killed. After the group rescues Longshot beneath a pile of rubble, they decide they need to fight him as a team. Thanks to their newly developed teamwork, they're able to remove Juggy's helmet and crash-land him into some train tracks. Unfortunately a train is coming. Rogue and Longshot take to the train while Dazzler and Psylocke stick to Juggy. Both sides are successful and two tragedies are averted. However, upon getting back to the city they find it was just a clever ruse. Black Tom Cassidy was robbing the Scotland National Bank during Juggernaut's rampage. Psylocke puts a positive spin on things, though, and they see the brighter picture. In Northern Mexico, Polaris and Havok are driving home, enjoying themselves when a VW bus changes their future. They're knocked off a road and fall down a mountainside. After getting themselves back together, they search for the maniac. However, what they end up finding could spell disaster for the entire world; a Starshark - one of the living spaceships of the Brood
Characters Involved:
Dazzler, Longshot, Psylocke, Rogue (all X-Men)
Havok, Polaris (both former X-Men)
Brigadier Lethbridge Stewart
Sgt. Major Benton
Geordie and Rupert, railroad workers
Juggernaut
Story Notes:
Juggernaut and Dazzler fought one on one in Uncanny X-Men #217. As a result Dazzler was defeated and almost killed.
The "friend" who called the X-Men was probably Conal, Dazzler's dance partner from last issue.
Juggernaut's nickname for Longshot is "jackrabbit".
Rogue kissed Juggernaut once before in Marvel Team-up #150.
The Brood were last seen in UXM #167.
The mystery of the Star-shark and it's missing inhabitant is continued in UXM #232.
Bridgadier Lethbridge-Stewart and Sergeant Major Benton seem to be an homage to the British TV series "Doctor Who." In the series a Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart was the commander of the British branch of UNIT (the United Nations Intelligence Taskforce), who often associated with the Doctor, while Sergeant Benton was one of the UNIT rank-and-file. Excalibur supporting character Alistair Stuart seems to be based on the same series, as the outfit he works for is called W.H.O. (Weird Happenings Organisation). The rank of his twin sister Alysande was Brigadier.

Brief Description:
Storm approaches Wolverine about taking over as leader of the X-Men while she searches for Forge to ask him to return her powers. He doesn't want to do it, but Storm manages to convince him that it's his duty. She makes her way to Dallas, Texas, where Forge's penthouse is. After finding the building deserted and without power, she takes the stairs up to Forge's penthouse apartment. When she arrives, she is shocked to find holograms of her and Forge out on the balcony, replaying their confrontation from months ago. Suddenly, the security systems are activated, but through some fancy maneuvering she stays out of harm's way. She progresses through the penthouse only to find more and more holograms of herself and Forge. She decides to go to the control room to shut it off. When she does, the holograms disappear and she finds Forge distraught nearby. However, it's just another hologram and the person who turned them on reveals himself. It's Naze, who tells her he wanted to test her skills. He wants her help in finding Forge. She refuses, but after much begging and pleading she agrees to go with him. However, Naze's motives may not be so innocent.
Characters Involved:
Storm, Wolverine (both X-Men)
The Adversary in the form of Forge's mentor Naze
holograms
Forge,Storm (both memories and fantasy depictions of them)
Story Notes:
Storm lost her powers to Forge's Neutralizer in Uncanny X-Men #185.
The opening story of the two eagles was Storm's metaphorical representation of what she feels was Forge's betrayal.
The holograms were replaying events that occurred in Uncanny X-Men #186.
Naze saved Storm's life in Uncanny X-Men #187.
Naze was replaced (and seemingly killed) by a Dire Wraith (off-panel in Uncanny X-Men #187). In Uncanny X-Men #188 that Wraith was in turn possessed by the Adversary.

Brief Description:
Eagle Plaza is no more. However the X-Men, Madelyne Pryor and Neal Conan are still alive. They’re right in the middle of a Vietnam War battle, but there is one thing weird about it - there are demons everywhere. The X-Men take to the battle and go toe to toe with the beasties. All the while Neal videotapes with his camera, hoping the outside world can see. Maddie runs for cover and ends up coming upon Forge, as a young soldier in the war. Desperate over his arm buddies‘ deaths, he uses their souls to cast a spell that opens a gateway. The demons the X-Men are fighting came from this gateway. Forge soon realizes his mistake and orders an air strike to fix it. The X-Men realize that this past event is related to what is happening now. Neal asks more questions of the X-Men. He wants them to use this opportunity to show the world that mutants aren’t to be feared. High above Earth, the Adversary has taken over Roma’s Starlight Citadel and Forge (of the present day), Storm and Roma are his prisoners. He watches the X-Men and marvels over his future victory. Down below, Psylocke senses Forge and Storm up in the citadel. The X-Men come up with a plan to get up there. Upon arrival, they discover that the Adversary, like most other magical beings, is vulnerable to iron. As steel is an alloy of the metal, one blow from Colossus rips the Adversary in half and reveals his true form. That was the reason for Roma making sure that the armored X-Man would be present for this conflict. Rogue absorbs some magical knowledge and opens an energy portal behind the Adversary, though he managed to grab hold of the edge. All the X-men’s efforts to blast him fully through fail, and it becomes clear that there’s only one thing that can truly defeat him; Forge’s magic. Years ago he used the souls of his friends to open a gate, now he again needs nine souls to close one. The eight X-men and Madelyne Pryor agree without a second thought and even though it pains Forge greatly, he commences the spell. The Adversary is knocked through the portal and sealed behind a tombstone. Roma transports Forge and cameraman Neal Conan transported back to Dallas, where Freedom Force any many viewers of the live-feed are waiting for them. Shocked by her foster daughter’s death, Mystique accuses Forge of being a murderer. On Muir Island, Kitty Pryde watched the TV as the X-Men sacrifice their lives. She informs Moira MacTaggert, and Nightcrawler, just awakened from his come, of the bad news. However high above in her Citadel, Roma draws the X-Men’s essences from the tomb and recreates them. She tells them that chaos is needed in the universe, so the Adversary should not be locked away forever. Roma thanks the team for their heroism and tells them she could send them where- and whenever they want. The X-Men decide to let the world believe them dead, so that their friends and families are no longer in danger of being attacked by their enemies.

Genetic material is taken to create more mutates.
Back in the outback headquarters a demon named N’astirh tries to contact Madelyne, but she is not there to receive the call.
In her prison cell Rogue lies in a fetal position, she has completely withdrawn into herself. Since her power manifested, she had dreamed about being touched by others, she never imagined to be handled against her will by these prison guards who “took a few libertys“. In her mind she meets psychic residues of all the people she ever absorbed. Rogue searches for help and finds it in the permanently absorbed personality of Ms. Marvel. Brief Description:
Madelyne undergoes a strange transformation; in her mind she becomes the Phoenix and destroys the city, in reality she caused the lab explosition, yet she has no memory of the incident. Jenny is turned completely into a mutate. The X-Men surprise-attack the Magistrate citadel and are able to free their captive friends and members. Psylocke forces Wipeout to return Rogues and Wolverines powers. Madelyne wonders why she finds the baby-breeding chambers in the labs familiar. Havok destroys the Magistrate citadel. Phillip and Jenny leave the country.
Full Summary:
The Genegineer, Chief Magistrate Anderson and Wipeout try to understand the events that caused the lab explosion. They still can’t scan Madelyne’s mind, but they use a video tape of the psychic transcript from the now dead telepath among the examining team. They see Madelyne as she perceives herself : Madelyne as a child picks flowers and sings a song called “Gone to America“. The Genegineer appears, asking the child who it is. In the pupils of the young girl appears a phoenix image, the Magistrates shoot her, but Madeylne transforms into a creature of fire, she flattens the whole city. Only the Genegineer is left standing, he wears Sinister’s costume, Madelyne wears the costume she already wore in her last dream sequence. (UXM 234) The Genegineer asks her what she wants, Madelyne hesitates, then she gives a warning to be careful when striking a match, or else one could ignite an Inferno. That is where the tape ends. The Genegineer blames Wipeout for not taking away her powers, but he says that he can not take away what isn’t there. Moreau than goes to Madelyne’s cell and asks her personally what happened in the lab, yet she has no memory of the incident
Jenny undergoes the final stage of the mutate process.
Rogue/Carol and Wolverine show Phillip around the mutate camp. Even though he lived in the country his whole life, he never knew how bad these people were treated. Unfortunately they are discovered by Anderson, because the X-Men no longer register to technical scan (since the Fall of the Mutants UXM 227); on her video screen she only saw Phillip, still dressed as a mutate, wandering around unguarded. They are taken to the Genegineer, Phillip asks his father, how he can support the cruel genoshan system. Meanwhile the X-Men have used a bad weather day, Storm’s doing, to infiltrate the citadel in disguise too. Havok searches for Madelyne but finds her cell empty, the door was blasted away from the inside.
In the confusion of the battle the Genegineer slips away, he goes deep into the base where he finds Madelyne at the breeding laboratory. In her arms is the baby that started the whole confusion. Somehow she finds the incubation chambers familiar. The Genegineer is frightened of her and attempts to shoot her, but his own son Phillip stops him. The X-Men win the day. Rogue/Carol captured Wipeout, and Psylocke mindcontrols him to undo his power negating effect on Rogue and Wolverine. Havok blasts the citadel to pieces. Phillip and Jenny leave the country together.

Brief Description:
In deep space, a group of interstellar conquerors, comprised of myriad species and calling themselves the Conquest, make plans against their newest objective: Earth. Meanwhile in Australia, Wolverine notices the low morale among the men in camp. Taking a cue from Storm's all-ladies trip to LA, Wolverine suggests a trip with the guys to town. Shortly after arriving in Sydney, Wolverine's group, comprised of Colossus, Longshot, Havok and himself, witnesses the arrival of the invading Conquest. The reactions of the citizens of Sydney confuse the Conquest causing their leadership to decide to cut their loses and activate a bomb of unimaginable devastation. A half inebriated Havok destroys the command ship before the bomb is activated, saving the day and stranding the strike force members of Conquest. Meanwhile, in the highlands of Kentucky, Tessa of the Hellfire Club is shown a devastated installation that once imprisoned the now free Donald Pierce, the former White King.
Full Summary:
On an alien ship, in deep space, the Fearless Leader of the Conquest, a group of warriors from myriad races, bent on conquest of worlds, addresses his fleet. The Leader announces the discovery of a new world to conquer, called Earth. As the Leader calls for the rallying of forces, a Conquest archivist, so lowly in importance that he lacks a name, discovers the history of the Conquest's new target. His computer tells him that Earth has repelled incursions by the Kree, Skrulls, Aakon, Badoon, as well as others. Data also confirms that Earth has not only repelled multiple assaults by Galactus, but is the homeworld of Galactus' current herald, Nova. Earth is also the adopted homeworld of the Phoenix Force. The archivist decides to warn his masters, even though it could mean the end of his life, as he fears more for the lives of many of the Conquest.
In Australia, Havok uses the monitor room to watch his fellow X-Men. After lamenting that Wolverine has disabled his scanners, Havok discovers Wolverine standing behind him, watching the watcher. The two argue about the use of the Reavers' monitors that corrupted Madelyne. They are interrupted by an astral projection of Storm, generated by Psylocke who has informed Storm about Havok and Wolverine's exchange. Storm warns of using any of the Reavers' systems until the X-Men are sure that they are safe. Havok storms out, questioning why the team stays in a place that they feel could be unsafe. Storm and Wolverine continue their discussion, focusing in on the recent problems with Havok and his two recent romances, with Polaris and Madelyne, both of which ended in tragedy. Wolverine warns that the problems with the men run deeper. When storm asks for a solution, Wolverine suggests Storm's recent cure for the ladies' problems and states that “What's good for the goose....“
Later, Dazzler attempts to disguise Colossus, still unable to change from his armored form, by applying flesh colored makeup. Colossus remarks that the light Dazzler has been generating to see better has been hurting his eyes. Dazzler turns off her power and apologizes, while thinking to herself about her recent unconscious use of her powers. She notes that in recent times her lasers have been more powerful, her photon bolts have packed more of a punch, and that her basic luminescence has been upshifting along the spectrum from yellow into white. As she hopes silently that this does not bode unwell for the future, Wolverine, Havok and Longshot enter looking for Colossus. The four heroes enter Gateway's portal, leaving Rogue and Storm wondering how much trouble the four will get into.
Wolverine, Colossus, Longshot and Havok arrive at a bar in Sydney. Colossus reminisces of a previous trip to a bar with Wolverine that led to a fight with the Juggernaut. Havoks mentions another interesting place that the group could go where anything goes: an island calls Madripoor. Wolverine notes that the rest of the group isn't old enough for that place and, addressing the bartender by name, asks for a round of drinks. Immediately all women in the bar flock to Longshot, Colossus begins to draw, and Havok and Wolverine vow to drink until one of them hits the floor. Rumbles from outside quickly interrupt the group's plans. After running outside to investigate, the quartet witnesses the arrival of the invading Conquest's fleet.
The Conquest's tanks and soldiers enter Sydney but are confused as to the populace's response; that of ignoring the invaders. Convinced that this is a ploy or a prelude to a trap the Fearless Leader orders his invading hordes to do nothing to provoke the locals, to err on the side of discretion and let the populace make the first move. Some soldiers ignore the orders and provoke a fight in a local bar only to discover the one local ready and willing to fight is a disguised Colossus. As other soldiers move in to join the fight against Colossus, Wolverine and Havok drink a toast at the odds.
Downtown, the Conquest Strike Leader enters the office of the mayor and demands his immediate and unconditional surrender. The mayor, upon realizing that the alien wishes to take over, declares that he is past due for a vacation and happily hands the job to him.
Back at Wolverine's bar, the Strike Force Commander arrives, looking for his missing cadres. The Commanders is amazed to find one of the male hating See-Cubed dancing with a human (Longshot). Further inside he finds one of his soldiers, Lord Autarch playing a game of chance, a game called Poker, with Wolverine. The Commander attempts to bring Autarch away from the game, but is summarily backhanded. After rising off the floor, the Commander is approached by Havok who asks to take situation outside, to which the Commander, looking for a fight, agrees.
Back at the poker game, Lord Autarch is convinced of his imminent victory against the Earther, Wolverine. With three kings and a pair of sixes (a Full House), to Wolverine's apparent pair of twos, Lord Autarch is broached by the Earther at upping the stakes... to include their lives. Despite his hand, Lord Autarch weighs the difference between losing and the better part of valor.
Sometime later the quartet of X-Men return to their base in Australia laughing that Wolverine bluffed the alien with a pair of twos. Waiting for the group is a cross-armed Storm, showing her displeasure at the men's drunken condition. Wolverine swiftly approaches her and, sweeping Storm off her feet, lays a long and very loud smooch on the team leader. Staggering to his quarters. Wolverine yells to Alex about a cantina in Mexico on the Gulf of California where they could finish their contest of drinking each other under the table. Storm, still reeling from Wolverine's kiss, begins laughing aloud... at those men!
On another day in the Cumberland Highlands of Kentucky Ms. Tessa of the Hellfire Club visits a devastated installation belonging to Sebastian Shaw. The facility, now destroyed with all of the staff wiped out, once imprisoned the former White King of the Hellfire Club, Donald Pierce. Tessa is left pondering the plans of the now freed Donald Pierce, and how they might include the Hellfire Club and the Lords Cardinal.
Characters Involved:
Colossus, Dazzler, Havok, Longshot, Psylocke, Rogue, Storm, Wolverine (all X-Men)
Fearless Leader, Lord Autarch, See-Cubed, Strike Commander, Strike Leader (all The Conquest, alien invaders)
Tessa (Hellfire Club)
Story Notes:
The situation that Colossus remembers where he and Wolverine visit a bar, only to end up in a fight with the Juggernaut occurred in Uncanny X-Men #183.
The bar in Mexico that Wolverine mentions is the one they visit in the Havok and Wolverine: Meltdown limited series, set between this and the next issue, where the two men have already returned from the adventure.
This issue is Rob Liefeld's only penciling job on Uncanny X-Men, his name was misspelled Leifeld in the credits.
This issue is a parody of the recent DC Comics crossover Invasion !, which was published the previous year. In the DC crossover, many alien races team-up to invade the Earth, as they realize that from this insignificant pre-space faring world have arisen hundreds of powerful beings that have influenced the universe on cosmic matters. In the X-Men story of this issue, the Conquest invades while being completely ignorant of these very things.
Many of the species in this story are parodies of ones from DC.The toothy species of the Fearless Leader is a direct swipe/parody of the Dominators in the Invasion! story. The species of the Strike Force Commander is a swipe/parody of DC's Khunds. The See-Cubed women seem to be parodies of Thanagarians who also participated in the Invasion! One DC alien species that is depicted, but did not participate in the Invasion! is the gray skinned tusky Branx warriors from the DC series Omega Men.
In the two page splash page at the beginning, swipe/parodies of many aliens from popular science fiction can be seen. Some of them are as follows: the alien from “Alien“; Jabba the Hutt, Boba Fett, Darth Vader, Yoda, Chewbacca, and Jawas are from “Star Wars“, E.T. and A.L.F. can be seen.
The television studio in a “Great Metropolitan Television Network“ takes a stab at Superman's place of work, the Daily Planet. For a while in the 1970s Clark Kent worked as a TV anchor, and not a newspaper reporter.
The use of the “Jean Bomb“ is, of course, a self deprecating swipe at himself by Chris Claremont at the confusing continuity of Jean Grey and her clone Madelyne Pryor who managed to destroy both Cyclops and Havok's lives. It also parodies a weapon used in Invasion! called the “Gene Bomb“ which was designed to interfere with Meta Human powers.

They arrive at the X-Men camp and swiftly capture Psylocke, Havok and Dazzler. The three captured X-Men are placed in armor, designed by Nanny, which bend the X-Men against their will. The three are then forced to use their powers against the still free X-Men, Storm and Colossus. During the following conflict Havok is freed from his armor. Still groggy, he fires a plasma discharge at Nanny's fleeing sky ship, which crashes to the ground, exploding on impact.
