My newsstand, actually the "almost corner" small grocery store-the grocery store version of a hole in the wall ... (fill in the dots)-did not offer much in the way of a selection when it came to food but it did offer every comic book published from the mid-1960s to the mid-1980s, the period during which I visited the store, as well as a few tons of "used" ("back issue" was not a term known by the owner [or me] until the early 1980s) GA books.
The store owner, a man in his 60s and 70s during my tenure, was solely interested in comic books because they sold well; as he frequently told me. Still, he discounted books across the board. For example, if you purchased a book with a cover price of 15¢ he would charge you 10¢ for it. Although I do not remember how many books you had to purchase to receive a bigger discount, with the number of books I purchased he would price 15¢ books at 8¢.
Such a discount, of course, offered me the opportunity to purchase many comic books, including, I believe, 6 or more copies of Tec 405. I recall making the "extra effort" to purchase more than my usual number of Tec copies with this issue simply because of the cover. As you can see on the copy before you, the cover is simply fantastic. The menace and tension it invokes takes your breath away. Oh, and as you may realize, the copy before you has absolutely perfect cover alignment, which is, unfortunately, all too often lacking on this issue.
Keeper, perhaps even if I am able to find a white paged 9.6 or, even better, 9.8 copy with less then perfect cover alignment.
This book was previously owned by another Batman/Tec fan.

A blast from the past perhaps or laying down the law in Gotham? Whatever it was, I could not wait to find out I'm quite sure when I saw this book at my favorite comic book newsstand. Six copies it was as well as shown by my "decade ago review."
Kaluta's use of the "dark" on these covers was brilliant as they invoked the perfect "feel" for the great Batman stories contained in this run of Tec issues.
If you have not read this issue, try to as I believe you'll enjoy it tremendously!
Keeper, until I locate a typical CGC graded 9.8 copy. A CGC graded 9.8 copy of this issue was added to this set in February 2020.
Image #2 is of the same comic book, a place holder that will be replaced with a scan or photograph of the back cover of this book.
Issue Credits (as per the CGC Universal Label):
Frank Robins and Nelson Bridwell stories
(Bob) Brown, (Dick) Giordano, (Dick) Dillin, and (Joe) Giella art
Michael Wm. Kaluta cover
Issue Note (as per the CGC Universal Label):
Hawkman backup story.

Welcome to the set 9.6 that has near perfect cover alignment; waiting for a 9.8 to arrive.
As I wrote previously: "Detective Comics 437
I presently do not have a copy of Detective Comics 437 in this set. The CGC graded copy that I had in this set last year, although a 9.8 with white pages and having a description that read: The brilliant Jim Aparo created a cover for the ages with this beauty. This book should be part of every collection for the cover alone. I'll leave it at that. This book is the best CGC 9.8 graded copy of this issue as the cover has only a slight strip of white running along the left side!, never quite met my standards as it had a cover miswrap that bothered me. Thus, once I find a copy of Detective Comics 437 with perfect cover alignment I hope to add it to this set."
Although my "search" for a CGC graded 9.8 copy of Detective Comics 437 continues, I was fortunate enough to find this very nice white-paged copy, despite the miswrap, of this issue and decided to purchase it in order to fill this long-empty set slot. If I had the time, I would attempt to find my OO copies, or one of the many that I have purchased over the years, and determine if any may garner a 9.8 (9.9 or 10.0, hopefully) from the folks at CGC. Unfortunately, that will have to wait.
Oh, yes, the brilliant Jim Aparo ...!
Issue Credits (as per the CGC Universal Label):
Archie Goodwin story
Jim Aparo and Walter Simonson art
Jim Aparo cover
Issue Notes (as per the CGC Universal Label):
1st appearance of the new Manhunter and Christine St. Clair.
New logo.

The Living Phosphorous is mad and he's "not going to take it anymore." Unfortunately, for Batman; but great for us; he's on old LP's hit list along with Gotham City.
Will G City, and the Batman, survive or ....
Keeper, until I locate a typical CGC graded 9.8 copy of this issue for this, my second, Detective Comics 401 to 500 set.
(although this old label beauty looks better than a 9.6 by any measure).

Detective Comics 483 has another of those "split-action" covers that are found on some issues in this set, perhaps most prominently on issue 448; and including the "triple split actions" of issue 491.
Although this copy of Detective Comics issue 483 is a very nice copy overall, I hope to get a 9.8 or higher graded copy of this book with white pages.
Issue Credits (as per the CGC Universal Label):
Denny O'Neil and Len Wein stories
Howard Chaykin and Steve Ditko art
José Luis Garcia-López cover
Issue Note (as per the CGC Universal Label):
40th anniversary issue.
Origin retold.
Pin-up by Dick Giordano on back cover.
