Ok, lots to talk about on this one...
The banners that Marvel occasionally had at the time on the top of the books were awful. I mean, if I were in charge I'd have taken the money to put them up there too but they do totally ruin the aesthetics of the covers.
Now for the good! Romita Jr does an amazing job of drawing the George Washington Bridge! Having been over it a bunch I'm quite impressed. Spidey looks great here too! I love these sub-set of Spidey covers where he just stares straight at the reader - so cool!
As far as the characters, I know not much comes of "Fusion - the Twin Terror," but he does look good visually. C'mon - anything that has that much "Kirby Crackle" has gotta be cool! Not only that, but we get the first appearance of another character that would be reoccurring for a long time in Lance Bannon. Lance would ultimately be killed in Web Of Spider-Man #114.
Key Comments: 1st appearance of Lance Bannon & Fusion, the Twin Terror (Hubert & Pinky Fusser).

What a Romita Jr cover! He really captures the mood and mystique of our new character - Madame Web!!!! Sure she's an old woman, what's the harm? Well, actually she's more of a mysterious friend. Perhaps not as well portrayed in her own film from a few years back, but the 90's cartoon got her just right!
This one is actually the book from my own personal collection, not a book I picked up. It was also one of the first books I had pressed. Still not perfect, but a much nicer book than it was, and pretty in that labeled slab too!
Key Comments: 1st appearance of Madame Web.

How do you beat a guy made up of water?!? Spider-Man meets Hydro-Man for the first time in this issue!
Good old Morrie Bench wasn't too much of a featured villain in Spidey books other than being part of a few teams like the Sinister Syndicate but played a big part in the 90's Spider-Man cartoon. I think he's a character that could use more love.
Fun action cover by Jr. Jr & Al!

1st HOBGOBLIN! My favorite villain! :D I didn't get this copy off the stands, but it happens to be a NS copy. I did get it in the mid-90's and had it graded myself. This copy will have to do instead of my 9.8 / WP criteria, but if it's the only copy I ever have that's just fine as it's been mine for decades.

1st appearance of the "black costume" that would go on to cause all kinds of trouble still to this day as Venom!
A stellar copy looking to mimic Amazing Fantasy #15, since this was the first time Spidey changed outfits since he put on his tights.
I've had this copy for over 30 years before grading it with the matching custom label.
I picked this up in 1994 at Million Year Picnic in Harvard Square and I guess just got lucky. I didn't have much money back then, but this was worth it!

Who is the Rose? A somewhat rare white cover but with a lot of pink, for our new villain!
Spidey was featured in his new costume big time last issue, but not so much this issue. Don't worry, we'll be seeing plenty of that in the years to come! This is only it's 2nd appearance in this title!

C'Mon! Who doesn't love the Red Ghost and his Super Apes?!?!?! This was back when Peter still had the original black costume, pre-Venom! All wrapped up in a tough black cover with WHITE pages!
Also in this issue, as Spidey looks for the Battle Can that eluded his grasp in the previous issue we see it's in the hands of a character in the shadows that we later find out is.... The HOBGOBLIN! :-o

Finally! This one took a bit to track down at a reasonable price. It's an early original black costume appearance, but the real gem of this one is that it's the 1st appearance of the Puma! Thomas Fireheart goes on to be a friend and for for years and is still out there on the Spidey-verse. Along for the ride are the Rose & Black Cat too!
A really dark cover I mostly like. I kinda wish the light was on Puma and Spidey was in the dark so you could just see his eyes and shape. This issue also bridges a gap giving me a giant run from. 248 - 265, so I'm very excited to snag this issue!!!
Key Comments: 1st appearance of Puma (Thomas Fireheart). Black Cat & Rose appearance.

Spidey has the Black Fox to contend with, but the real important part of this issue is that it's the first appearance of Silver Sable!
I do wish that she could have gotten a little face on the cover or some other sort of tease of a new character. As it is this cover could really use a bit of something to make it more exciting.
In any case, I'm happy to have another 9.8 of a 1st appearance in a Spidey book!

Cool Bob Layton cover featuring the Absorbing Man and Titania. I kinda wish she was in costume, but not bad. The Wasp and Hobgoblin also show up!

Like I need to tell ya... but breaking tradition I'll give you the key comments to this slab up front:
Key Comments
1st Todd McFarlane Spider-Man.
1st appearance of Eddie Brock in cameo.
Chance appearance.
It's a BIG one! The first Spidey by the artist that defined a generation, Todd McFarlane and the 1st cameo of one of Marvel's greatest anti-heroes: VENOM! Also appearing, and looking pretty cool too, is the villain / gambler Chance!
Not a bad grade for a book I bought off the rack and read a bunch! I would have liked to keep it raw, by doesn't it look pretty in that black label slab? :) This is a big win for the collection!

very light spine stress lines

It all started here!
Here's the first appearance of Roderick Kingsley, the man who would become the Hobgoblin! Belladonna also shows up for the first time too. I always dig the "shadow" Spidey with the reversed-inks on his costume and this is a pretty cool Byrne cover overall. I guess we haven't seen Belladonna since PPSSM #48, we've gotta bring her back into the fold! The use of light purple and pinks on covers back then happened often, which is kinda cool as I like different.
This book was purchased graded, otherwise I'd have had the custom label on it (maybe one day). I had a 9.4 but the requirement for the set was 9.8 so here it is! After nearly 2 years of searching for a reasonably priced copy I found this one and couldn't say no. To give you an idea how long it took, I started a PPSSM run after starting my Hobgoblin set, and I've got 80% of 1-100 before I found this one!
Key Comments: 1st appearance of Roderick Kingsley (original Hobgoblin) & Belladonna
