There are a few covers that seem to catapult me into wanting to read the book before I even get home. This is one of those books. So much so that I will be mentioning this book in some upcoming top ten lists.

My first issue of Amazing Spider-Man I purchased was issue #251, the first I ever had, to my recollection was 181. I had a few more in-between but I never solidly collected since so many people made it to the 7-11 and purchased them all before I had the chance. I tried to collect religeously but still missed out on an issue here and there. This was one of them. It also wasn't the last. It's weird how many times holes would appear in my collection and then McFarlane was so hot, his books either sold out, or the back issue price was something I didn't want to pay.
CGC came along and there were a few I anted, but as with when these books first came out, it was the New Mutants that I craved first, followed by the X-Men and everything else after.
Once again, this book is here in this set because of RonnyLama. I have it in front of me as I type out these descriptions. And although they might not be about what's inside the book, it is about what the book is to me.I still have work soon, and I'm excited to add the next one, and I think Ron is just as excited for me to do so as well. However, it is time for me to go to work and I will have to add the rest another time.

I was just as worried about cracking these as I was cracking my ASM 129 for a third signature. I also decided to get my original copies graded not caring what they graded. There were titles that came out in the eighties that helped define what a comic book should be to me. This was one of them.
A special thanks to RonnyLama for opening his home once again for another year of ECCC wholesome fun.

I originally purchased this from World Wide Comics. I cracked my full gauntlet of 9.8's for this series that I did not already have signed. This meant I stayed away from issue 6. This is signed so much better than my own copy, both signatures stand out in silver. It is also the first appearance of Mojo, so maybe I should check if this is placed in the Copper first set yet.

Thank you RonnyLama for your generosity and helping make this happen.

Personal Thoughts:
Purchased as a 9.8 and cracked out for not only the signatures of Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod, but a small sketch of Cannon ball on the back for good measure.
Technically, wouldn't Sam Guthrie be the first recruited member since he was originally pitted against Shan, Daniel, Roberto, and Rahne when they fought against him?
The first time I tried to purchase a graded 9.8 copy was on Comic Link. I lost. I also lost the second time. I finally purchased my first 9.8 copy already signed and have since sold that one after this copy came back and retained the 9.8.
I met the person that I lost against at the NYCC when he had the book cracked out for signatures. Since then I have considered any time I lost a book in a bidding war to be Wallaced.

Originally this was supposed to be issue #1. Due to a delay in publishing with the new Marvel Graphic Novels, Jim Shooter and Louise Jones changed the work in progress while adding ten pages in the process Bob Mcleod worked on some of these pages during his honeymoon. The original deal was that he could ink his own pencils and Louise did not want to break that promise.

One of the reasons why I enjoyed the New Mutants so much is the amount of characters they had, and not just the team members. In the second issue were the sentinels, the fifth was Team USA (should they even count), the X-men, members of the Hellfire Club, Hellions, and most recently Cloak and Dagger.
The duo always had problems with their own series. Marvel even tried to label them mutants in their own magazine to try to help sales. But between Peter Parker the SPectacular Spider-Man and The New Mutants they were written amazingly well. They just never got the right writer for their own book.
Only two issues ago we see Rahne and Roberto terrified of the homeless heros, this time we see the opposite. Tyrone and Tandy seem to be on the defense.
Cloaks face is amazing accurate for one who is hesitantly afraid. Bill Sienkiewicz has an amazing way about his work. And who is David Haller?

Here it is. the First Full appearance of David Charles Haller. How many first appearances are we up to in 26 issues? And with Legion having his own book, can we not ask for a point increase on this issue alone. ANyway...That should be a topic for a journal not an individual summary.
The team is finally coming together. Which is a good thing, because they are going to need it to go up against the one that could possibly be stronger than Professor Xavier.
And why, oh why, did they raise the price to a whopping .65 cents a piece?
