Peter is going out of his mind! I think it may be because of the Charlie Brown sweater, I'm not sure...
No, it's actually the fault of Dr. Jonas Harrow and his Mental Attitude Response Variator (MARV) ray! John Byrne penciled this one, of of the few ASM's he did, but Milgrom was on cover duty.
Key Comments: Doctor Jonas Harrow appearance.

Ok, lots to talk about on this one...
The banners that Marvel occasionally had at the time on the top of the books were awful. I mean, if I were in charge I'd have taken the money to put them up there too but they do totally ruin the aesthetics of the covers.
Now for the good! Romita Jr does an amazing job of drawing the George Washington Bridge! Having been over it a bunch I'm quite impressed. Spidey looks great here too! I love these sub-set of Spidey covers where he just stares straight at the reader - so cool!
As far as the characters, I know not much comes of "Fusion - the Twin Terror," but he does look good visually. C'mon - anything that has that much "Kirby Crackle" has gotta be cool! Not only that, but we get the first appearance of another character that would be reoccurring for a long time in Lance Bannon. Lance would ultimately be killed in Web Of Spider-Man #114.
Key Comments: 1st appearance of Lance Bannon & Fusion, the Twin Terror (Hubert & Pinky Fusser).

What a Romita Jr cover! He really captures the mood and mystique of our new character - Madame Web!!!! Sure she's an old woman, what's the harm? Well, actually she's more of a mysterious friend. Perhaps not as well portrayed in her own film from a few years back, but the 90's cartoon got her just right!
This one is actually the book from my own personal collection, not a book I picked up. It was also one of the first books I had pressed. Still not perfect, but a much nicer book than it was, and pretty in that labeled slab too!
Key Comments: 1st appearance of Madame Web.
Grader Notes:
very light spine stress lines
very light wear all corners
light foxing interior cover

How do you beat a guy made up of water?!? Spider-Man meets Hydro-Man for the first time in this issue!
Good old Morrie Bench wasn't too much of a featured villain in Spidey books other than being part of a few teams like the Sinister Syndicate but played a big part in the 90's Spider-Man cartoon. I think he's a character that could use more love.
Fun action cover by Jr. Jr & Al!

Ok, a name like the "Whizzer" might have worked in 1945 - but not in the 1980's. Meet the Speed Demon! I love covers that destroy the logo and other parts of the cover! Good job Walt Simonson! I would not have known this was his work if not for the label, but his sig is kind of hidden on the left border.
BTW, did anyone know anybody who won that ten-speed racer? Darn border cluttered book covers for a month someone better have enjoyed it!

This is one Spidey-riffic cover! Somewhat reminiscent of Annual #2 and ASM #47 we get multiple Spideys on the cover, but this time surrounding the somewhat new anti-hero Foolkiller. He sure looks like one angry dude, and he's not going to suffer any fools!
Having the character box match the background was a great call. It almost - but not quite - for the bike ad at the top.
Key Comments: Foolkiller appearance.

MY FIRST SPIDEY COMIC! Now I have one in 9.8!!! :D
I've been waiting TOO long to get one of these! I can still remember reading and re-reading this one over and over on my floor in my room. The Hyde cover is so menacing and the Spidey spotlight was so cool! Just to add to it, I've been dying to take this pic with my custom statue for years, and today was the day!
This one may only be 88 points in the registry, but it's 1000 in my book!!!
Key Comments: Cobra & Mister Hyde appearance.

Panel cover alert! :) JR Jr. pulled it off quite well, as long as you don't ask the Tarantula! This is the beginning of the end for him, poor guy. Hardly knew ya! This does begin a really cool storyline with him and the Will 'O the Wisp the culminates in #337. It is one of the stories I fondly recall from my childhood, so this issue is super special - and it wasn't the easiest one to track down either! In fact, of the goal I set for myself of getting a run from #232 to #289 (for various reasons) this is one of the last I needed! Well, not anymore! ;)

The Will-O'-The-Wisp is looking pretty epic on this cover and Spidey looks a bit outmatched! And what is the Tarantula have to do with all of this?
We've also got a "Marvel Comics Guide to Collecting" Comics" inserted as part of this issue. Thank goodness they gave us that - I'd be lost! :p This is one of the books I remember having as a kid. I remember pouring over it! a

Man, what a gruesome way to go! The Tarantula wasn't that bad of a character that he deserved this! I mean, I wondered how he walked around with those pointy feet but when I was a kid and saw how he was transformed into a man-spider like that I was soooooo grossed out!
Of course also appearing in this issue so the Will O' the Wisp that plays just a big of a part in this story. He's been out for revenge since we first met him back in ASM #167 and after this issue, the finale, he finally gets some resolution. So something good happens here, if not for the Tarantula.
Key Comments: "Death" of the Tarantula. Will O' the Wisp appearance.

1st HOBGOBLIN! My favorite villain! :D I didn't get this copy off the stands, but it happens to be a NS copy. I did get it in the mid-90's and had it graded myself. This copy will have to do instead of my 9.8 / WP criteria, but if it's the only copy I ever have that's just fine as it's been mine for decades.
