The Complete Set of (Domestic) Spawn #1 Reprints:
Since June 4, 1992 when Spawn #1 debuted,
it has been reprinted domestically a total
of 15 times.
Additionally, there have been 7 versions
of the "Spawn #1 Director's Cut", which is
like an annotated / reference edition.
This set includes all of these for a total
of 22 books (so far!)
My set is 100% complete and all are 9.8 except one (that pesky mini comic!)
Notable Books:
The Spawn "Black and White Edition" was the first time issue #1 was reprinted, and also the first "variant cover" for the series!
It was released in September 1997 (a full 5 years after Spawn began) and was an incentive for retailers ordering Spawn #65.
The Spawn #1 Mini Comic was released in 2007 along with a BestBuy exclusive "Steelbook" DVD set of the Spawn Animated Series. It was very hard to find, with many stores receiving only 1 or two copies, and some stores receiving none.
Because the comic was packaged inside a shrink-wrap against a curved steel case, it is very hard to find copies without intense stress creasing and color breaks along the spine.
To coincide with Free Comic Book Day 2010, Image Firsts: Spawn #1 was a $1.00 reprint of the original issue. Subsequently, there have been a total of 7 printings of this book, each with a different back cover and trade dress.
Spawn #1 The Director's Cut was released in 2017, and is similar to artist "Ultimate Editions" released for many comics, except that it's standard comic-sized. It reprints the original art for Spawn #1 alongside annotations about the book. There were 3 variant covers initially, followed by a 2nd printing (Encore Edition), and 3 variant covers released with Spawn Kickstarter Action Figures.
A Note About SpawnWorld:
I'm the owner/creator of SpawnWorld, the world's largest Spawn site. For 25 years and running I've been trying to catalog all Spawn comics, characters, and collectibles.
The site is 100% free (not even any advertising!) and the best place to find info related to collecting Spawn. All books in my CGC sets (and 99% of all items on the site) are from my personal collection.
