Mister Miracle cover! I bought this raw from Newkadia.com. The Jackson Guice cover is a Mister Miracle #6 homage.
Part I of a story continued in Superman: Man of Steel 43

The first issue introduces, then kills off, the original Mister Miracle, an aging but highly skilled magician/escape artist named Thaddeus Brown, thus providing the mysterious and oddly-named Scott Free, who happens by as Brown and his loyal assistant Oberon are practicing an escape, the opportunity to adopt his persona as the new Mister Miracle, Super escape artist! (What other rationale could one have for such a garish, colorful costume than show business?!) His first foe: the powerful Intergang mobster Steel Hand. Intergang (human gangsters armed with Apokoliptian technology) figured prominently in Kirby's Fourth World (especially New Gods); they first appeared in Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen 133 (Oct 1970), the first series Kirby took over when he came to DC in the late '60s.

Issue two features my favorite Kirby cover, and establishes the strategy Jack Kirby employed for the cover art in the series: Scott Free seconds from a gruesome death, hopelessly bound and with no apparent means of escape. This issue introduces one of the great Fourth World villains, the malevolent Granny Goodness (another great play on words for a Kirby character), who raised Scott Free in her "orphanage" for the training of Darkseid's soldiers. Scott is the only person ever to escape its grip.

This issue introduces Dr. Bedlam, who challenges Mister Miracle to escape a building filled with homicidal maniacs.
This is the last 15 cent issue.

Scott's escape from Dr. Bedlam's trap is continued in this issue, which introduces another great Fourth World character, Big Barda: one of Darkseid's "Female Furies" and Scott's love interest (eventually his wife).
