“The Mutants and the Monster”. Hulk appearance. Havoc appearance. Lorna Dane appearance. A love triangle forms among Alex, Lorna and Bobby. Alex and Bobby fight for her affections. The X-Men battle the incredible Hulk. This is the last of the new stories from the original series. The series would be cancelled following the release of this issue but the characters would live on making guest appearances in other titles. Over the next nine months, executives at Marvel would come to realize that the title’s sales had begun to pickup with the Neal Adams run. To test the market, they started the series up again nine months after it was cancelled. But they did not want to risk new stories yet, so they released reprints of earlier issues featuring brand new covers. For five years, the reprints continued selling well enough to force Marvel to completely refurbish the title with brand new characters and stories. Thus, in July of 1975, with the release of Giant-Size X-Men #1, a new legend began.
This awesome NM copy was purchased from the guys at Metropolis Comics. At 9.4, there are only eight copies graded higher.
