A 9.8 WP NEWSTAND Copy. What are you doing underwater, is this Sonar Sense??? We presume Miller's input now being felt, as the title DAREDEVIL "Marked for Death" appears, not "Man Without Fear". ***Then why is it offically listed a "Marked for Murder"??? This is either a retro cover or a brand new idea, depending on your point of view. For the detail folks, Roger McKenzie wrote the story, Miller sketched the cover, and Jansen did the ink work on the cover. Miller isn't a story writer quite yet!! Issued July 1979, making a DD comic release every two months. DD 159 was the first listed Miller/Klaus Janson cover. This issue was hard to get at a good price...I mean someone kept snatching these #159 issues up quickly over the last 2 years and the same CGC number was next seen for sale offered for exactly $400 a few days to a few weeks later. Some clever fellow..Oh well. Another issue hard to get well centered, and the harder to get a 9.8 NEWSTAND Variant to boot! A 9.8WP's sells for $350 and up. There are 41 9.8 issues graded so far, with 4 SS issues with only 1 the 9.8 grade (2 SS issues, 9.4 and 8.5) out of 310 issues graded as of May 2013.

A 9.8 WP NEWSTAND Edition.
This is the first of the old retro curved letters in the Daredevil title, modified a bit, but still not seen since issue DD 63. Frank Miller also changed the DD character in the letter box, who remains in the left corner with the big city behind him now(except issue 176) through the Miller run. Also the first 50 cent DD comic.
I dislike the Advertising covers, but at least they jammed it all into the top of the comic.
This is also a Miller/Jansen cover...with Miller co-writing the plot again with McKenzie.
Entitled "Tll Death do us Part". had DD vs the Gladiator.
This issue is overlooked but in any case fairly hard to get in 9.8, only 27 out there...and only one new for over 6 months...
This comic in my set is the BEST structured #166 I have ever seen!! AND, for added rareness, this comic is a NEWSTAND VARIANT, replacing my nice Direct Edition 9.8. Thanks Pedigree Comics, and it was a great deal too!!
I am very happy with this comic in my set, as it is very hard to get this nice off the rack somewhere, so the comic Gods were watching this issue carefully...
Expect to pay $200 bucks to own one, more if you have bid competitors, less if no one is watching!! No issues are SS in any grade out of 138 CGC graded copies as of June 2013.
Published in September 1980.

A 9.8 WP NEWSTAND Edition.
The Classic DD cover of the Miller run, introducing ELEKTRA and a new DD era arrives!! (and a movie later too)!!!
This cover is easily prone to flaws, and only 93 graded 9.8 issues of this comic exist, with 5 of them now SS copies, most, if not all, by Stan Lee.
An amazing 1,851 graded copies so far. 37 others are also SS copis in lessor grades. Another 233 graded at 9.6 so far as of June 2012.
And folks, you can really see the difference of the Miller era covers from here on. Most are quite memorable to the older DD folks.
Expect to pay at least $600 for a funky 9.8WP copy, and better copies are seen for sale up to $2K if they are beauties. I have 2, one Newstand and one Direct Edition, both perfectly structured and acquired for about $750 each a few years ago.

A Sharp 9.8 WP Direct Edition Copy.
Miller did the cover and story, with Jansen back inside the book.
139 9.8's at this moment out of 319 graded copies, with 6SS copies, only one at 9.8.
There should be a 9.9 somewhere....I like clean white covers...
A Miller Story and Cover, entitled "Overkill".
DD vs the Hand.
Expect to pay $60 for a clean WP copy in 9.8.

A 9.8 WP Copy.
This has become the iconic Miller era cover as of late, and the original Miller art for this cover sold for $100K at Heritage Auction in 2010. Wowow!!!
I sent the sale particulars to my Dad to prove comics can't be THAT bad...
Frank Miller story and cover.
In any case the Black Widow is back, with ONE graded at 9.9 and 151 issues graded at 9.8 out of 384 CGC graded issues, with 2 SS copies, the highest being 9.4 as of Dec 2013.
All this makes a 9.8 one worth about $50 bucks in WP's. I have a NEWSTAND in OWW and looking for a WP copy.
Issue titled "The WIdow's Bite" with DD recovering with Stick and the Black Widow dying of poisoning...
Neat cover Frank.
I have submitted another one for SS by Stan Lee and Jansen...
Published in November 1982.
