I bought this book as a teenager back in the eighties. I got out of comics for a long time but alway lugged long boxes around from one location to another every time I moved. I never had the heart to part with them, there were just to many great memories wrapped up in those books. I thought it would be nice to get a book I kept for all these years, especially one I purchased as a kid, signed by Stan the Man himself. When Desert Wind sponsored the East Coast Legends Tour I had the opportunity to get not just Stan's sig, but John Romita's as well. I couldn't pass up the chance.

I bought this book on a whim just for the East Coast Legends Tour, to go along with the Daredevil 16 I was submitting. The Daredevil 16 had previously been a universal 8.0. For whatever reason, maybe the OCD in me, I thought it would be cool if I had Daredevil 16 and 17 with matching sigs as well as matching grades. Well, my plan almost worked to perfection. The 17 was indeed an 8.0, pretty spectacular grading on my part I must say, unfortunately the 16 lost a half a grade, drat!!...I figured the sigs more than make up for it though.

What great pick up this book turned out to be. I bought this raw from superworld, sight unseen. He had it advertised as NM+ but told me via emails that he thought it had a strong chance at a 9.8 even without a pressing. I took a chance and purchased it and then held onto it for probably 6 months, debating whether to try a pressing or not. I could detect just a hint of a possible cbc on the spine. My fear was any attempt at pressing would only make it worse. I decided to "grow a pair" and submit it without the pressing. Turns out it was the right choice. I about fell out of my chair when I checked the grade online and saw it received a 9.8. This is, or was rather, the toughest Miller DD to get in 9.8, now it's tied with the hulk cover for the fewest graded at NM/M.

At the time I bought this from a fellow boardie, it was the most I had ever paid for a comic. I knew if I was going to put together a NM/M graded set of Miller DDs I was going to pass a lot of milestones along the way, as far as spending money goes. Turns out the price of the book has gone up nicely since then. I guess I got it when the getting was good.
