1st DC Issue - after 206 Gold Key issues. You ever look at a cover and ask "Why isn't this considered a classic cover?" This issue, Iron Man 100, Secret Origins 15, there's just a lot of awesome cover art out there that doesn't get the recognition it deserves. Weird thought while I am typing this - does this count as a Gorilla cover? It must really - starting with Action Comics, what? #2? is that the first gorilla cover?
Anyway - I really love the struggle that Kubert captured here - plus it is part of the classic Tarzan mythos, right? the coming of age fight with the big gorilla. And he's really dialed it in, with their arms & legs intertwined but the image not just being a big ball of wrestling fur.
Overall? Sure - I would have bought this off the spinner rack - Tarzan is awesome.

You know - it's actually hard to say something pithy about covers with inset images. But, I do love a Joe K cover & signature.

Western Penn. One of the all-time great shark covers. Every bit of this cover screams "Shark Attack" - from the point of view to the gnashing teeth of the monster shark. I purchased this issue (not this copy) off the shelf as a youth just because of the cover - it worked then and it works now.
