Logan is familiarizing himself with New York when he is teased by a stalker. He steals his cigarette from his mouth and laughs at him from behind, but whenever Logan turns around nobody is there. Logan gives a wild chase through New York, before taking a rest in a bar. A girl flirts with him, but soon she gets killed by the stalker. Logan knows that he will be next; he again crosses the city and waits for his opponent at Battery Park. Sabretooth rises from the water and attacks Wolverine from behind. Synopsis:
Storm finds well-known writer Phil Halloran about to commit suicide. He has a writing blockade and can’t get over it. Storm takes him flying through the sky, and explains though she can experience and create beauty, the world needs people who can express it in words. They return to the tower, and suddenly Storm is knocked out by an escaped serial killer, who tells Phil to jump off while he drags the unconscious Storm inside. Phil knows that when he saves Ororo she will try to stop him from killing himself, but he goes after them anyway. While he fights with the killer Storm comes around and takes him out with her powers. Yet exhausted and weakened from a severe concussion, she can only beg Phil not to go through with his plan. She tells him that as long as he lives, there is always hope. Phil goes away to call an ambulance and the police, but he still hasn’t made up his mind, about what he will do afterward.

Synopsis:
After being accosted by the Northern Irish police, a young Sean Cassidy is saved by a mysterious biker who saves her, in turn, with his mutant powers, when the police run them off the road. He flies the woman, Maeve, to his home, where she also gets to meet his cousin, Tom. Over the weeks that follow, Maeve goes out with both Sean and Tom, honestly torn between both of them. Sean is supposed to accompany her to a spring dance but is run off the road by the police sergeant they had previously escaped from. Injured, he asks Tom to take his place. Tom first keeps silent about Sean’s reason for not coming, certain that he can win Maeve that way, but eventually tells her the truth to spare her pain.

-Maeve would later marry Sean, but their romance was tragically short-lived. As an undercover Interpol agent, he spent a lot of time away from home. He was on such an extended trip when his wife became the victim of a bomb shortly after giving birth to their daughter, Theresa. So long had Sean been away that he hadn’t even been aware that Maeve was pregnant. Black Tom raised the girl as his own, neither letting her nor Sean know of their true relationship.
Quotes:
"Sean was on his way here, Maeve. He was run off the road. He'll be all right, I think-- but he asked me to come and explain why he couldn't be here. I thought, by keeping, silent, I could turn your heart from him to me. But I reckoned without my own heart. Even though you'll probably hate me for it... I find I cannot lie to you. Even about this. Do you hate me, Maeve, for what I've done?" —Tom Cassidy

Mesmero hypnotizes Phoenix during a moment when she is being careless. He finds that he cannot force himself on her but he can still use her to get revenge on the X-Men. With her help, he manages to ensnare all the X-Men, save for Wolverine, who is too animalistic to control. However, his hypnotized fellow X-Men beat him into unconsciousness. Mesmero then decides to have the X-Men work as circus artists for him, both to humiliate them and to make some profit from it.

Quotes:
"This isn't fair! I've done what no one else ever has -- I've beaten the X-Men! I have them completely in my power, at my mercy, my slightest whim their eager command! And I haven't a clue what to do next! Magneto -- he'd know, curse him! Probably has a billion revenge scenarios, each more delightfully cruel than the last. But he's never won. I have -- and I'm stuck!" —Mesmero
