Set Description:

Spider-Man 2099 has always held a place near and dear to me. I collected comics growing up just as my dad once did. When he introduced me to Spider-Man, I was hooked. Walking into my comic book store in 1992 and seeing a brand new version of Spider-Man made the character feel like he was "my" Spider-Man. I collected the series and several others but soon had to give up my pull bin. As an adult, I've rekindled my collecting. It has been a lot of fun hunting down these now almost 30 year old issues and trying to find 9.8s to send in to CGC. I hope you enjoy my collection as much as I've had creating it. Cheers!

UPDATE: 10/16/2021 - 100% achieved! I've collected graded copies of all 54 issues of the original Spider-Man 2099 run after almost 100 raw issues, 34 CGC submissions, 25 eBay purchases, and 4 awesome gifts. Current stats: 39 - 9.8's, 12 - 9.6's, 3 - 9.4's

UPDATE: 6/13/2023 - Upgraded #37B to a 9.8! This issue along with the newsstand #25 have been the hardest 9.8's to get. After a few tries and 9.6's, I gave in and bought one of the only four 9.8's on census. This replaces my signed 9.6 which is one of only four signed copies on census. 46 - 9.8's, 5 - 9.6's, 3 - 9.4's

UPDATE: 7/27/2023 - Two very special updates added! I attended Garden State Comic Fest on June 24, 2023. I was able to meet a lot of great comic creators and got several books signed. Part of those signatures included Rick Leonardi signing a Spider-Man 2099 #35 and Greg Hildebrandt signing my Spider-Man 2099 Special #1. UPDATE: 8/26/2023 - A huge addition to the collection. I bought the only 9.9 copy of issue #2! The highest graded comic in my collection! 1 - 9.9, 45 - 9.8's, 5 - 9.6's, 3 - 9.4's

This is the book that started this exciting journey. My wife gave me this copy as a Christmas present in 2016. It wasn't until almost 3 years later in 2019 that I thought about compiling a complete, graded set. I looked into the CGC Census and saw that there were several issues that hadn't been graded yet and there weren't any completed sets in the CGC Registry. I was excited for the opportunity to not only be the first to gather the set but collect a series that meant something to me growing up.

After trying to find a decent looking and decently priced copy of this book for almost a year, I bought this copy raw off eBay on 7/31/2019 for $80. My motivation for getting this book was to get it signed and possibly remarqued by Rick Leonardi. He was scheduled to appear at Keystone Comic Con in August 2019. I really started going to cons in 2013 and hadn't seen him at any of the ones I made it to, so I didn't want to miss the opportunity.

Rick Leonardi was super nice. I remember he was working on a commission at his table when my brother and I walked up. I asked him to sign and sketch on this copy and on my original, off the shelf copy of the regular red foil Spider-Man 2099 #1. He put the same sketch and signature on both copies and was kind enough to also take a picture with me. As soon as the picture was done, he went back to work. I had to kindly ask him to take my money which got a laugh out of both of us. This is easily in the top 10 books in my collection because of that experience. Thanks Rick!

The High Tech Hunt Is On! This issue furthers the futuristic take on Spidey with more of the origin story of Miguel O' Hara. As a kid interested in technology, this cover and title really drew me in. I purchased this copy off eBay on October 18, 2019 for $63.

I had what I thought would be a 9.8 raw copy of this book from a Spider-Man 2099 lot I had purchased until I accidentally dog-eared the bottom corner of the back cover.

I wound up purchasing this 9.6 copy off eBay on October 13, 2019. It was actually part of a bundled deal for CGC 9.6 copies of Spider-Man 2099 #6, #7, and #8 for only $28 each.

Almost 4 years into the search and I hadn't found another 9.8 raw copy. On March 27, 2023, I caved and bought a 9.8 off of eBay for $90.

I really like the idea of creating futuristic/alternative versions of Spidey's villiains. It felt fitting that one of the earliest, classic Spider-Man's enemies, Vulture, get that treatment early in this series.

I originally purchased a 9.6 copy off eBay on October 13, 2019. It was actually part of a bundled deal for CGC 9.6 copies of Spider-Man 2099 #6, #7, and #8 for only $28 each.

Several raw copies later, there still wasn't a 9.8 candidate.

I wound up purchasing this copy off eBay on July 28, 2021 for $68. I was happy to snag the upgrade after a year and a half of searching.

One of the hardest things collecting this series has been the number of black covers it contains. I was nervous to grade this one, but I submitted this copy to CGC in December 2019. I was pleased to get a 9.8 but more so excited to get the first graded 9.8 on the CGC Census.

This was a hard cover to get in high grade. I had purchased 4 or 5 raw copies from various places but none worthy enough to submit for grading. I even picked up a raw copy signed by Peter David. I wound up purchasing this CGC 9.8 copy off eBay on January 26, 2020 for $112.

Another black cover book that was challenging to find a worthy copy. Not dark front cover but the almost all black Mortal Kombat ad on the back cover. I submitted this copy to CGC in February 2020. I was pleased to get a 9.8 but again I was more excited to get the first graded 9.8 on the CGC Census.

I submitted this copy to CGC in February 2020. I slightly bummed to only get a 9.6. However, this was the first graded copy of this issue on the Census so a happy silver lining. Three more years of searching since that milestone and no luck. I decided upgrade and bought this 9.8 copy off of eBay in January 2023 for $87.
