Books like this are why I like CGC comics so much. Not many dealers would probably call this book just a fine plus. A very nice copy that presents like a higher graded book.

So what silver age Action Comics collection would be complete without a copy of Action 252? Well none. The 242 is pretty important, but Braniac isn't Supergirl by a longshot. The 242 is more famous for being scarcer overall where the 252 is just hard to find above the 7.0 range
I got this nice copy from a fellow CGC board member who got it Harley Yee. It is a very glossy copy that has nice edges and corners.
Considering the top graded copy is currently only a 9.0 you have to consider that this isn't widley available in high grade.
Now about Supergirl herself.....the rocket was from Krypton right? So why is it so wrecked....

In the silver age Superman universe, this is a pretty cool book. First off, it is the first appearance of Bizarro in Superman, after previously being introduced in Superboy 68 a year or so earlier. Secondly, as far as I know, it is the first two-parter continued story in a DC comic.
And...add to that a really cool cover!
So...third appearance of Supergirl, first Bizarro, great two-part story and cool cover = winner!

Ok, so DC won't let Superman and Lois marry for what, another thirty years? But hey..Bizarro can marry bizarro Lois!
Second part of the great two parter started the issue before...these two are must haves for silver age Superman collectors!

A Luthor appearance on a otherwise mediocre Wayne Boring cover. Speaking of Wayne Boring, by this time in the silver age his stuff was dated. Curt Swan had become the Superman artist and just about any cover he drew during this time was pretty cool.
Some of these issues of Action are seldomly seen above the VG range. Books like this one with lackluster cover art kind of slip under the radar as being known to be harder to find in higher grades.

This isn't the first time I have seen this energy vortex thingy trap someone on a silver age DC cover. I seem to think World's Finest 96 has something like that as well (I could be wrong, but probably not LOL!)

The final 10 center I needed to complete 250 through 282, the last 10 cent issue! At the time of getting this book, I need only Action 299 to have 250-414, a goal I have been persuing for years.
A nice looking copy I got of a Quality Comix Auction at a decent price.

Ya know, this book really should be worth more than 40 points in the registry, it was hard as heck to find a decent copy!
First appearance of a MAJOR DC silver age character....Streaky the Super Cat! That's right Krypto...move over...MEOW!
Purple cover and hard to find in almost any condition, especially above good.
Oh, I found this puppy (er kitten) on eBay in December 2008 and got it for like $40. Merry Christmas to me!

This issue has a cool Bizarro cover. Since I comment on scarcity a bit, I have to say that I have seen a few high grade copies of this one, so it's no Action Comics 261.
This copy has nice white pages a very nice centering.
These Bizarro stories were so popular, that Bizarro ended up becoming a cover feature on Adventure Comics for a short time....bizarre, huh?

If I saw this cover in 1960 and I only had 10 cents to spend on a comic that day, this would probably be the book I would have to buy! I have long sought a decent copy of this that wasn't overpriced and the Heritage weekly auction obliged me. At the time of buying this it filled in my Action run from 261-298!

Okay, so this one isn't the snazziest cover of the silver age, but it is a Curt Swan cover.
DC really went nutso with these alien covers. Some of them were so bizarre you just wish you could ask the artist what the heck was he thinking.
None the less though, a nice typical silver age story with a Supergirl backup.
These issues are'nt rare by any stretch, but there are quite a few collectors that compete for the mid grade an up copies.

Super birght yellows on this cover! A fairly common style of cover for the time period. Perry is not my favorite member of the Superman cast of characters, but great Caesars Ghost if your gonna collect em all ya gotta take the good with the bad.

Okay, I passed up aq fairly nice copy of this book back around 1986 for $12 because I thought the cover was kinda dumb, then spent like $100 on this copy because I needed this issue. So really, which is dumber, the cover or me?

I bagged on 272 and 273 for being lackluster covers, but not this issue! I love this cover and it may be one of my favorites (along with 285) that have Supergirl on the cover. A little spine tear on the bottom keeps this white paged beauty from grading higher.
