Set Description:

Wade Wilson travels the Marvel Universe as Deadpool, one of the most loved and hated characters in the Marvel Universe at the same time. Deadpool already possessed a history as a successful character having had two of his own successful mini-series (Circle Chase and Sins of the Past), a 71 issue solo ongoing title (Deadpool Vol 1 Issues -1 through 69), and a 50 issue run as a co-star in Cable & Deadpool.

In 2008, Marvel launched the second volume of the Deadpool ongoing series penned by writer, Daniel Way. Piggy-backing the Secret Invasion story-line, the series was met with quick sell outs of each issue, leading to 2nd prints of numerous issues. Marvel successfully leveraged its universe wide events, such as Dark Reign, and title crossovers (e.g. Deadpool vs. Thunderbolts) to further establish demand for the second volume of Deadpool.

Sales of the second volume of Deadpool were so strong and met with such enthusiasm that Marvel eventually launched additional Deadpool titles and additional Deadpool Mini-series (Deadpool Team-Up, Deadpool Merc with a Mouth, Prelude to Deadpool Corp, Deadpool Corp, Deadpool: Suicide Kings, Deadpool Pulp, Deadpool: Wade Wilson’s War, etc) Even with the launch of these additional titles, sales of the second volume of Deadpool remained strong.

Deadpool is known for being a dangerous character, who at times can be mentally unstable as well as having a self-awareness of the fact that he is in a comic book. Writer Daniel Way does both a good and, at times, poor job of utilizing all of Deadpool’s characteristics that make him an interesting character. In some arcs, such as the “Bullseye” story line, Way does a great job of incorporating the cynical humor and insanity that makes Deadpool a loveable character to the Gen Y/Millenial generations, while in other arcs, such as the Piratepool storyline, he goes too over the top with the humor/insanity that it comes off as trying to hard and missing the mark.

What has drawn me to the character of Deadpool is that he represents the hero my generation, the Gen Y/Millenial generation, yearn for. Someone who represents our cynical look on the world while wanting in an almost desperate manner to be a hero and leave the world a better place than we found it.

Deadpool is without a doubt the breakout character for this comic generation. He is our Wolverine. He is our Captain America. He is our Spider-Man. This set represents the core Deadpool volume 2 series that has relaunched Deadpool into the category of the “it” character. You will find the solicit information for each issue along with some of my personal thoughts on that issue. I’ve tried not to spoil stories too much, so that you can enjoy this title yourself.
