Set Description:

Xenozoic Tales, Mark Schultz's masterpiece, which pits humans against dinosaurs, corrupt politicians, murderous criminals and “the Grith” among others, is based in a post-apocalyptic future Earth after pollution and natural disasters have left the planet in ruins. Jack Tenrec, a mechanic, and Hannah Dundee, scientist and love interest, are the two main characters of the series.

Kitchen Sink Comics debuted Xenozoic Tales in Death Rattle #8 in the 12-page story "Xenozoic!". The initial story was well received and Xenozoic Tales received it’s own series with Xenozoic Tales #1 releasing in February 1987.

The series ran for 14 issues from 1987 through 1996 and eventually morphed in to the Cadillacs and Dinosaurs series, published by Topps, which ran 9 issues and spawned a CBS cartoon series, action figures, trading cards, an RPG and a Capcom arcade and PC game. The highly acclaimed series ended up winning four Harvey Awards and three Eisner Awards in the 90s.

Personally, I love this series for 3 main reasons:

1) ART: first and foremost, the incredible art of Mark Schultz, a true modern master in my eyes. The pages in these books are so beautifully drawn and laid out that the reading experience is unlike any other books I've read (Dave Stevens' Rocketeer series is a close second).

2) CONCEPT: the unique concept. In a world of redos, retreads and sampling, I don't believe there is a book out there that explores this post-apocalyptic idea like Xenozoic Tales does. That makes for a refreshing read.

3) STORY: the story-telling. Great stories throughout and it's the type of read you don't want to put down. Highly recommended to anyone who hasn't read Schultz's masterpiece.

The original series, at least what we've seen so far, has it all and I can’t wait to see what Mark Schultz brings us next.
