Bob McLeod - Inker
Herb Trimpe & Bob McLeod - Cover Artists
Glynis Wein - Colorist
Jim Novak - Letterer
Tom DeFalco - Editor
Jim Shooter - Editor-in-Chief
Synopsis:
Operation: Lady Doomsday:Dr. Burkhart, a nuclear physicist formerly of the "Doomsday Project," considered a traitor by many for her outspoken critique of both the Project and the U.S. government, is kidnapped by the terrorist organization Cobra Command while being transported to testify before Congress. Cobra threatens to kill her if a rescue is attempted, but the government cannot afford to let Cobra extract the secrets Dr. Burkhart knows. G.I. Joe is sent to Cobra's stronghold on a small, thinly-populated Caribbean island to effect the rescue. They successfully penetrate the outer defenses and make their way to the Spanish fort where Cobra Commander is holed up with Dr. Burkhart. On the way, they discover that Cobra has slaughtered the island's civilian population in an act of shear malice. Snake-Eyes and Scarlett confront Cobra Commander and rescue Dr. Burkhart, just as the rest of the team arrives in the fort. Burkhart explains that she was the bait for a trap and that the fort is wired to explode within minutes. The team escapes with moments to spare in a Cobra helicopter. Burkhart thanks her rescuers and realizes that "somewhere in the Pentagon... there are people who care." In the confusion, Cobra Commander and the Baroness escape to their "true headquarters," foreshadowing more trouble for the Joes...Hot Potato:Scarlett, Snake-Eyes, and Rock 'N Roll must transport a tape out of the Cobra-funded Colonel Sharif's emirate. The safety of the team members takes a back seat to the safety of the tape. When Scarlett is injured, she orders the others to continue without her, but Snake-Eyes turns back for her. Upon delivering the tape to Hawk, Stalker, and Clutch, Rock 'N Roll goes back for them and is closely followed by Hawk and Clutch. Together they rescue the others, while Stalker transports the tape to safety

- First G.I. Joe comic. This issue's corner cover art is a picture of Grunt. It is the same art used, with few exceptions, for the first hundred issues. Issue also included numerous personnel profiles, HQ diagram, and vehicle profiles. This issue was also released as a 13 1/4 by 10 inch Marvel Special Treasury Edition in 1982 with the same content and a slightly modified cover.
- Operation: Lady Doomsday - First appearance of Dr. Adele Burkhart. A computer read-out shows the faces and code names of all 13 original Joes, plus a 14th face obscured by a character's hand with the code-name "Shooter." This is a joke referring to the fact that Jim Shooter was editor-in-chief of Marvel at the time. This story is reprinted in G.I. Joe Yearbook No. 1 (March 1985).
- Hot Potato - This story features the first reference to Snake-Eyes' "feelings for Scarlett."
- The Marvel Universe Appendix website and 2006 edition of the "Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe" identify the G.I. Joe & U.S. version of the Transformers continuities as taking place in the designation of Earth-91274, while the profile on Death's Head establishes that the U.K. continuity as taking place in the Earth-120185 reality.
- Includes four pinups by Herb Trimpe and Al Milgrom.

Larry Hama - Writer
Don Perlin - Penciler
Jack Abel - Inker
Herb Trimpe - Cover Artists
Bob Sharen - Colorist
Jim Novak - Letterer
Tom DeFalco - Editor
Jim Shooter - Editor-in-Chief
Synopsis:
Near the North Pole, a U.S. Army unit finds an American research station nearly destroyed after a "commando-style" raid. The colonel calls generals Flagg and Austin. A Russian research station is nearby, but the generals are afraid to send a recon mission to check out the Russian base. Instead, they choose four Joes into the area. Stalker, Breaker, Scarlett and Snake-Eyes have their leave interrupted.
Flagg flies with the Joes to the North Pole to brief them. They parachute in to watch the Russian base from a hidden camp. An eskimo arrives on a dogsled with a machine gun. He walks inside the base, then returns a few minutes later and leaves the base. The Joes find the base is full of dead Russians -- frozen to death -- and records are missing, as is a key component to a ultra low-frequency modulator that affects human brain waves. Snake-Eyes discovers a bomb and the Joes escape just before it explodes. The joes take off after the eskimo until Breaker receives a "teleprinter" print-out. The file identifies the eskimo as Kwinn: a mercenary who is extremely honest, but will reveal nothing about his employers.

Herb Trimpe - Penciler
Jack Abel - Inker
Bob Hall & Al Milgrom - Cover Artists
George Roussos - Colorist
Diana Albers - Letterer
Tom DeFalco - Editor
Jim Shooter - Editor-in-Chief
Synopsis:
The Joes have just completed a mission in which several Cobra personnel were captured and a large robot in pieces were seized. General Flagg ordered the robot to be taken to G.I. Joe headquarters, The Pit, for examination and safeguarding. Once the robot arrives at the Pit, it is taken to one of the sub-levels and scanned for any signs of functionality, to which none is found. It is a trick though, as Cobra Commander used a chemical based delay to trigger reactivation of the robot, at which point it locks security entrances and begins rebuilding itself. The purpose of the robot is to help Cobra discover the location of the base, but in order to do so, the robot must make it to the upper level so that the homing beacon signal can be transmitted. The Joes are locked in various parts of the Pit and use different methods to break free and find out what sealed the security doors which trapped them in different parts of the Pit. As the robot nears the surface of the Pit where the homing beacon signal would be picked up by Cobra, the Joes manage to fool the robot into falling into an open hydraulic shaft causing it to fall six floors down again.

Synopsis:
The Joes are chasing a Naja Hanna Video Corp. van in San Francisco, filled with Cobra agents. After they disable the vehicle, a scar-faced Cobra Officer escapes, and they discover the Cobras had video game circuit cards in their possession, marked for shipping to Sierra Gordo. Stalker and Breaker head to the Naja Hanna office in that country, while Snake-Eyes and Gung-Ho serve as backup. Snake-Eyes recognizes Dr. Venom, who tried to extract information from him before, and heads to the office. Gung-Ho follows but bumps into the scarred Cobra from San Francisco. After a fight, the Cobras capture the Joes and take them to the river dock.
Dr. Venom starts to beat Snake-Eyes and leaves him for dead in the burning office. The villagers witness Snake-Eyes, on fire, running out of the building, but he jumps into the river. On the Cobras' boat, Kwinn and Dr. Venom argue, and Kwinn's role in the operation is revealed. The boat reaches an island, where the Baroness awaits them in a bunker. The Joes escape their bonds and take the upper hand against their captors. Snake-Eyes arrives and tells the Joes to leave with the computer chips while he neutralizes the threat. The scarred Cobra Officer is assigned as the courier for a virus that Dr. Venom has developed, and the serum that will mutate it further.
The Baroness and the Officer escape on a sea-plane, but the Joes jump overboard from the boat in time to avoid being blown up. The sea-plane circles back towards the island where it fires another bomb, blowing up the island with Snake-Eyes, Kwinn, and Venom still on it. The Joes swear revenge on the Baroness.

Synopsis:
To escape imprisonment, Snake Eyes and his uneasy allies, Dr. Venom and Quinn, steal a plane and take off in a wild aerial getaway. This issue finds Snake-Eyes and Dr.Venom emerging from the sunken bunker in Sierra Gordo, only to be greeted by a cobra hit squad disguised as renegade government troops. They are really pissed off for being stuck in the jungle and they took quite a thrashing in the last issue. We get to see the weasely Dr.Venom at his finest when he tells the troops he could fly them out if they spare him. They notice Kwinn is not present, Venom explains that Kwinn didn't make it out. Why because venom hit him over the head with a wrench. Kwinn comes out of the water slowly( a homage to "Apocolypse Now" and "Missing in Action". He then guns down the cobra troops with his trademark .30 caliber machine gun. Boy that one ammo belt he always carries goes a long way!
