I started picking copies of these up off the bookshelves in 1987 when I was 14 years old.
I LOVED THEM!! I would read practically every article in each issue. Whether it was on a movie or actor/actress or book or interview. It didn't matter to me.
I was soaking up everything sci-fi or fantasy based at the time and this was long before DVDs came out and started adding behind the scenes features from movies onto the home versions of the films.
For you young whippersnappers out there, movies came out on something called VHS tapes and there was only enough room for the film and not much else.
So being able to read articles and see behind the scenes pictures in these magazines was a real treat for me.
I was the only person getting these sogned and/or graded when I requested the set be created. Now I see that a few others have at least started to do something with the set as well. Very cool! Pretty much every one of these for my set will be OAKs! I love being a trend setter!
I really tried to keep these in excellent condition over the years. All of the copies you will see graded for this set are from my personal collection that my father and I purchased and held on to for "lo these many years".

This is a nice condition, very early copy of this long running magazine series!
I bought this raw from Mile High comics and once I looked through it, I found out that there was an interview with both Dirk Benedict and Richard Hatch in it.
They were both attending Megacon 2014, so I decided to get their signatures on it. After having a photo op done with all four cast members who were there, along with my big brother, Tnerb, I went to their individual booths at the show for sigs, where I got both of these guys sigs on this copy!
Richard signed his name, as well as "Apollo", which is the name of the character he played in the Battlestar Galactica TV show.
Dirk Benedict signed his name, as well as a star symbol and a dollar symbol, which is how he signs for the name "Starbuck", which is the character HE played in the show.
I'm almost surprised that CGC didn't put "signed and sketch by Dirk Benedict" on the label.
Getting such an early issue of this magazine, with a jet black cover, in this sort of condition with not one but two signatures, is absolutely stunning to me!

This is an early issue of this long running magazine series that I bought from Mile High comics. It just so happens that Herbert Jefferson Jr from the Battlestar Galactica TV show in the 70s was attending Megacon 2014.
So I took it with me to get signed. I also had a photo op done with the four cast members from the original show that were there along with my big brother, Tnerb. They were all really nice!!
Herbert was especially nice! Later on, I went to his booth to both sign the photo and this magazine! He signed his name and Lt. Boomer, which was the name of the character he played on the show! Very cool!!

This is the very first magazine from this series to feature Star Trek The Next Generation on the cover!! I just HAD to get this one signed by somebody at Megacon even though I knew that this one would get the lowest grade of all of the copies I took with me.
And it DID get the lowest grade. Fortunately all of the others I brought along for signings got much better grades!

I remember the show Beauty & The Beast. It was the first time I took notice of a particular actress named Linda Hamilton, who had played Sarah Conner in The Terminator and would later go on to be in the later movies of the series in one capacity or another.

I almost didn't take this copy with me to Megacon, but I was sure it would get a good grade, and that yellow cover made it irresistible to me for a SS label.
So ultimately, I did take it and have Wil Wheaton place his handiwork on it! I'm actually impressed that it got a 9.6, especially considering I bought this off the rack when it originally came out! I've held onto it for all these years and after moving it around over and over, it still looks GORGEOUS!!

I bought this issue straight off the magazine shelf at a bookstore when it was brand new back in 1988!
This issue features the first mention of the possibility of Denise Crosby being killed off of the show during the first season.
She WAS killed off a couple of episodes later, but was eventually brought back as herself for one episode and as her Romulan daughter later in the series.
Having the opportunity for her to sign this at Megacon was irresistible! Getting a 9.8 was even better!!!!

When the movie Willow came out in theaters, I was a ravenous Sci-Fi and Fantasy geek. I was reading and/or watching anything in the genres I could get my hands on!
So Willow fell right into that category very nicely. I loved the movie, which it turns out also happened to be my first introduction to two different actors.
Val Kilmer, who would go on to play movie role after movie role for decades afterward, including some rather unfortunate Batman movies.
And also Warwick Davis, the lead in the movie, who I would later find out had been the guy wearing the Wicket Ewok costume in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi! He would later go on to play the leprechaun in the leprechaun movies and even in the Harry Potter movies as the character named Griphook.
With articles on Beetlejuice, Robocop, Star Trek: The Next Generation and Roger Rabbit, this issue was packed with tons of stuff I was interested in reading about! It happens to be the 12th anniversary issue of the magazine as well.
What's really amazing is that this very copy was bought straight off the shelf in 1988 and read through by a 15 year old, then stored in a box and moved around multiple times from spot to spot and house to house.
The idea that after all of that, it could somehow receive a 9.8 grade would be laughable.... if it wasn't completely true!

I picked up this beauty the day it came out in 1988! I remember seeing Roger Rabbit on the cover AND an article about why Denise Crosby left ST TNG and I just had to have it!
This was another Starlog I had signed at Megacon, since she was there. I was pretty sure of a 9.8 and wasn't disappointed!
The yellow label blends nicely with this cover!

To be totally honest, I never did watch the movie Adventures of Baron Munchausen. But that didn't keep me from reading practically every word in this issue.
Articles on the upcoming Star Trek V movie, a Diana Muldar interview about being Dr. Pulaski on ST:TNG and Amanda Pays talking about the movie Leviathan were just a few reasons for me to pour throught this particular copy.

I was not happy with the grade on this copy. I believe having it pressed doomed it to a low grade. But you live and learn. I now know. One more thing to keep in kind when examining squarebound magazines like some of these Starlogs.
Anyway, this was signed by Walter Koenig at Pensacon in January of 2014.

Quantum Leap was a show that I would watch when it happened to be on, but I wouldn't call myself a huge fan of the show. I never saw all of the episodes, but probably about half of them.
The constant rehashing of travel in time, be someone else, do something important, get with the woman of that particular episode, repeat ad nauseum, just didn't completely garner all of my attention all of the time.
I would watch it when nothing else was on, and it was an ok show, just not entirely my cup of tea. In fact, my favorite parts of any given episode were the back and forth banter between Sam Beckett and Al.
But I was perfectly willing to read a big article on it in this issue, along with other great ones like the Alien Nation article, a show that I was so upset when it only lasted one season, and Batman, Star Trek and Beauty & The Beast articles, among others.

Boy Howdy! This issue was packed to the brim with articles that I couldn't wait to read through!
An interview with Colm Meaney, who played Chief Miles O' Brien on ST:TNG was of particular interest to me, being such a huge fan of the show and that character.
I had watched both of the first 2 Back To The Future movies multiple times and loved them, so being able to read a huge article on the third movie was most welcome!
With Nancy Allen talking about her role on Robocop, Michael Ironsides speaking about Total Recall and even an interview with Philip Jose Farmer about Tarzan and Doc Savage, I was in Hog Heaven with this issue!!!!!

Big, squarebound 14th Anniversary issue!!
The Arnold Schwarzenegger, Michael Dorn and Leslie Nielsen interviews alone were worth the time spent reading this copy.
Add in Starman, Back to the Future 3, Dick Tracy and Gremlins 2 articles and it was impossible to stop me!!!!!
