I would like to thank E-bay seller pepe la pew for selling me this sweet comic at a very fair price!
It is one of the true grails in war comics and is very hard to find in any condition above fine.
Brilliant "last stand" cover art by the one and only Carmine Infanito also includes bomb bursts and an enemy foursome POV with protruding bayonets

My favorite cover, and... DC war's most gruesome. "A red death machine gun cover" Even in the pre code era DC was more of a "G" rated version compared to Atlas and the other publishers, who almost always showed the war way more graphically and violent . I believe this cover is, THE definitive, DC war issued comic to actually attempt to show the horrors graphically . After a few of these early issues we will seldom again see such covers showing violence and death and even at that, this cover still has barely earned a "PG" rating especially by pre code standards.

you gotta love it, a pink war comic cover !! 1952 Gil Kane cover. There are quite a few pink colored covers from this series in the 1-80 issue run and for a war comic that is quite a contradiction but it really makes them stand out and I like it!

Another formative issue that helped me decide to complete this set all CGC graded, due to the DC Showcase anthology book (pictured on the right side image). The large sized paperback has every story from Our Army At War comics issues 1-20 in black and white. The DC Showcase book helps make this an ideal set to put together in CGC graded condition because with it you wouldn't need to buy the expensive early issues for reading.
This is also one of my nicer submission that I purchased from Leonard, the former owner of the comic book store: Nostalgia Inc. in Jackson, Michigan who now sets up at the huge annual Motor City Comic-Con.

A top notch cover ! great colors on this comic from 1952, beautifully done purple/blue sky with bomb burst. One of the very few DC war covers actually showing someone who is being shot (2nd enemy soldier on bridge) All these early issues 1-10 are so interesting !

Everything about this cover is just so cool!!Lets start with the landing barge in the background full of marines, many are making their way towards the shore as a water explosion (nice aqua inking) hits the surf. above a flaming Jap plane is about to crash upside down!
The island is colored orangish-yellow and dark green ! The black cover really stands out , the lettering is well placed!
But best of all is the medic and his two patients, by the look on the medics face and also by the gunner we can see that an incoming plane is overhead all while he is giving a blood transfusion to a wounded marine and the other wounded marine has a cigarette dangling out of his mouth.
Irv Novick cover and art, how can you not be a fan of his now after seeing his great OAAW #6 cover !

Had to have from Metropolis, love these early CGC graded OAAW, listed by them as rare, the first of the many "raft covers" in the series which DC artists liked to draw

Superlatives aside, this is flat out one of the top DC war covers ever and it ranks as my 2nd favorite from this series
The first time I ever saw it I was very impressed as it was unique.
Scores of years and thousands of war comic covers and none have captured one soldiers strength and rage as well as OAAW #8

Yellow submarine cover. I really like this comic and it is a good example of the purchasing options available for a CGC registry set. This issue is rarely offered on E-bay, there is one for sale raw at Metropolis as of Dec/2014 which they grade at 6.0 and have priced at $190. I bought mine with a detached cover at the Motor City Comicon in May of 2014 for $20 and after grading I have $45 into it. I am very pleased with how it looks, am not concerned with the low grade and points assigned to it as it fills a hole for a modest price with little financial downside risk. This comic has made me realize that a detached cover does not detract at all from a CGC graded comic, it still receives a blue label and I may purchase more like it in the future if available for a decent price.

One of my better comic submissions
(a real nice CGC 6.0 fine)and also a highly colorful cover. with literally every inking combination possible within reason. Almost a dozen different colors are displayed
Another fine example of why this series is so great to collect!

Awesome kamikaze cover! another top ten cover from the run. The cover most likely depicts a kamikaze engagement during the battle of Okinawa in 1944.

A simple cover yet so effective, it merely shows a parachutist trapped in the limb of a tree under fire, and yet something about it makes it hard to forget. maybe its the way its framed, quite colorful too.
coincidently the back cover is similar to the front,..it shows a tree limb with a Milky Way candy bar on the end and some kids climbing for it with a far less degree of danger involved.

One of two revolutionary war covers from the series along with issue #18. All DC big five war comics concentrated on world war two exclusively from about mid 1954 on, but before that we would get smattering's of other wars mainly in the "star spangled war stories" series which included many unique covers. ( I must resist collecting SSWS)
One war subject that was completely avoided on the covers of all DC war comics was the civil war, probably due to fears of alienating any of the potential comic buying population or stores from either the north or south.
"Flag cover" is noted on the CGC label

A nice cover, the German tank is drawn accurately. The point values for this comic are higher than some of the issues preceding it which is unusual for this title. This cover was redone by Neal Adams in issue #240 many years later

One of my favorite covers. The inking of this issue is amazing ! there are many colors displayed inside of this bomber which is under attack and on fire, the shadows and orangish brown tint easily make this one of the top DC comic war covers of all time.
