Owner's Description
1988 SUPERMAN FIFTY YEAR ANNIVERSARY ISSUE...THIS COMIC HAS 192 COPIES GRADED 9.8 MORE THAN MOST ALL OTHER YEARS COMBINED. ( est that # of copies was around 4 - 1 - 20160. SIX COPIES ALONE HAVE GRADED 9.8 IN THE LAST TWO MONTHS. (as of 10 - 7 - 2016 there are 220). PRICES OF THIS ISSUE ARE ALL OVER THE BOARD RANGING FROM $125 + SHIPPING TO $400 +. PERSONALLY THINK ITS WORTH $80 SHIPPING INC. NO PROBLEM FINDING 9.8 GRADED COPIES OF THIS YEAR. MANY COPIES ARE "WAY" OVER WHAT THESE COMICS ARE WORTH. SEEING SELLERS WITH THE ASKING PRICE OF $299 + FOR THIS ISSUE DRIVES ME NUTS! ITS TRULY ONLY WORTH $75 TOPS. "GET A GRIP PEOPLE QUIT TRYING TO SCREW EVERYONE". AS OF TODAY 9 -18 - 2016 THERE ARE ONLY TWO COPIES GRADED 9.9. ONE OF THOSE TWO IS IN AN E-BAY AUCTION CLOSING IN TWO DAYS. THE PRICE IS CURRENTLY @ $792.NOT SURE AT THIS POINT IF I WILL BID TO WIN OR LET THAT ONE SLIDE BY. JUST CHECKED THE PRICE LITERALLY FIVE MINUTES AGO PRICE BID UP TO $820 NOW. IT WOULD BE A GREAT ADDITION TO THIS SET, BUT NOT POSITIVE IT WOULD BE A GOOD INVESTMENT AS THIS IS THE ONE YEAR IN THE REPRINT SERIES THAT HAS THE MOST COPIES GRADED 9.8. IT IS THE ONE YEAR MOST LIKELY TO HAVE A 9.8s GRADED, AND AT CURRENT VALUES OF THE 1988 YEAR, WORTH ABOUT $110 SHIPPED, THE 9.9 MAY NOT BE WORTH SUCH A HUGE PREMIUM FOR THAT TENTH OF A GRADING POINT. WILL SEE IF I ENTER THE BIDDING RACE UNCERTAIN AT THIS POINT JUST DON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE EVEN THOUGH IT IS ONE OF TWO COPIES GRADED 9.9. NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE FOR THE UNTRAINED EYE TO SEE ANY DIFFERENCE TO JUSTIFY THE PRICE DIFFERENCE. THE COPY OF THE 9.9 SOLD FOR $1231 MIXED EMOTIONS IF UNDER PRICED OR OVER PRICED / UNCERTAIN IF IT A GOOD OR BAD INVESTMENT. HAVE BOUGHT LOW CGC POP COMICS FOR MUCH LESS WITH LOW POPULATION NUMBERS. THIS WOULD BE THE MOST EXPENSIVE PURCHASE FOR A LOW QUANTITY GRADED. ONE OF THE EASY WAYS TO TELL THIS REPRINT FROM OTHER REPRINTS IS THE GARBAGE CAN ON THE COVER BOTTOM LEFT CORNER. MOST REPRINTS HAVE SOMETHING TO LOOK FOR THAT GIVE CLUES TO THE YEAR IT WAS PRINTED. THE GARBAGE CAN ON THIS ONE MAKES IT EASY TO SPOT ITS THE 1988 FIFTY YEAR ANNIVERSARY ISSUE. THIS YEAR ALSO HAS COPIES SOLD AS A DIRECT ISSUE WITH A BAR CODE IN PLACE OF THE GARBAGE CAN. THAT ISSUE IS MORE DIFFICULT TO FIND IN HIGH GRADE FEWER PRINTED AND DIFFICULT FINDING CGC GRADED COPIES FOR SALE. HAD THE OPPORTUNITY BUY ONE OF THE 9.8 BAR CODE COPIES FOR $110 + SHIPPING AND LITERALLY OVER THOUGHT IT AND IT SOLD...THAT WAS A GOOD DEAL NOT MANY CGC COPIES, MISSED A GOOD COPY FOR THIS RARE SET. 1988 WAS THE FIRST YEAR THE COVERS WERE PRINTED WITH A GLOSSY STOCK PAPER ON THE FRONT COVER. THE 1974 WAS AN OVER SIZED EDITION WITH A LARGE GLOSSY OUTER COVER. THE 2 1976 ISSUES, THE 1983, AND THE 1987 COVERS WERE ALL PRINTED IN THE NEWSPAPER PAPER ON THE FRONT COVERS. NO ISSUES AFTER 1987 HAVE BEEN PRINTED WITH THE NEWSPAPER THAT IS ONE WAY TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SOME OF THE EARLY REPRINTS OF THIS ACTION COMICS #1 SUPERMAN REPRINT. 1988 ANNIVERSARY ISSUE HAS 220 9.8s GRADED WITH A HUGE POSSIBILITY OF MORE 9.8s COULD BE GRADED IN THE FUTURE A BIG REASON PASSED ON THE 9.9 ON E-BAY. IF IT WAS A DIFFERENT YEAR 100% PROBABLY WOULD HAVE BID TO WIN. SO EVEN THOUGH THE 9.9 WOULD HAVE BEEN A GREAT ADDITION TO THIS SET NO BIG DEAL MISSED THAT COMIC FOR THE SELLING PRICE OF $1231 NOT ADDED TO THIS SET.
