1976 ACTION COMICS REPRINT 9.8 FREE SAFEGUARD ISSUE. TOP OF COMIC CUT CLOSE.
SAFEGUARD ISSUE. | Action Comics 1 Modern |
9.8
|
THIS IS ONE OF TWO REPRINTS FROM 1976, (FIRST REPRINT PRINTED IN 1974) OF THE # 1 SUPERMAN FIRST REPRINT FROM 1976 IS THE FREE SAFEGUARD ISSUE, the SECOND ISSUE WAS A 10c COPY WAS PRINTED LATER THAT YEAR. THIS YEAR HAS A SURPRISING LARGE CGC CENSUS POPULATION IN HIGH GRADES OF 9.8. MY PHILOSOPHY IS NOT MANY PEOPLE TOOK THE TIME TO SEND IN THE SAFEGUARD SOAP LABELS, THAT LEFT MANY COMICS UNCLAIMED BY COLLECTORS. THOSE COMICS IN PRISTINE CONDITION THEN FOUND THEIR WAY INTO THE COLLECTORS MARKET AFTER SITTING ON SHELVES UNTOUCHED FOR DECADES. SOMEHOW THEY WERE FILTERED INTO THE HOBBY / THIS IS MY THEORY WHY SO MANY IN PRISTINE CONDITION TODAY. CAN NOT CONFIRM BUT FEEL IT IS A SOLID HYPOTHESIS ON THE MYSTERY.
ALTHOUGH HIGH GRADE IF YOU LOOK CLOSELY AT THE TOP IT LOOKS AS IF IT HAS BEEN CUT OFF. THIS WAS PART OF THE MINOR PROBLEM PRINTING THIS ISSUE. WHAT IS MISSING ON THE TOP IS ACTUALLY MADE UP ON THE BOTTOM OF THIS COMICS IMAGE AND IS A TYPICAL PRINTING ERROR. YOU CAN SEE THE BOTTOM OF THE COVER IMAGE PRINTED IS LONGER THAN ON OTHER ISSUES IN THIS SERIES. THE MAN IN THE LEFT BOTTOM CORNER HAS A LITTLE MORE OF HIS BODY SHOWING THAN IN OTHER ISSUES PRINTED. THIS WAS NORMAL NOT THE CASE OF SOMEONE TRYING TO CUT OFF THE COMICS IMPERFECTIONS FOR A BETTER GRADE AS HAPPENS IN MANY CASES. YOU CAN SEE THE PRINTERS PAGE CUTTING LINE ON THE REVERSE BOTTOM OF THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE. HAVE SEEN A FEW OTHER GGC ISSUES GRADED 9.8 "EXACTLY" LIKE THIS ONE. QUESTIONED HIGH GRADE BECAUSE THE TOP OF THE WRITING OF SAFEGUARD IS CUT SLIGHTLY ALONG THE TOP REVERSE. THAT DIDN'T SEEM TO BE AN ISSUE WHEN CGC GRADED IT AND WAS ACCEPTABLE IN THEIR GRADING PRACTICES. MANY HIGH-GRADE COPIES CURRENTLY HAVE "ASKING PRICES" OF $299 TO $1199. NOT CONFIRMED ANY ACTUAL SALES FOR THIS ISSUE WITH THOSE HIGH PRICES. I STILL FEEL MOST OF THOSE COMICS ARE OVER PRICED BY UNINFORMED SELLERS. THE SAFEGUARD ISSUE IS MORE COMMON THAN THE 10c ISSUE. IT IS ALSO ONE OF THE SUPERMAN REPRINTS WITH ASKING PRICES ARE ALWAYS ALL OVER THE BOARD. THERE ARE 55 COPIES GRADED 9.8 FOR THE SAFEGUARD ISSUE NOT RARE BUT WOULD BE CONSIDERED SCARCE. ONE COPY GRADED 9.4 SIGNATURE SERIES IS CURRENTLY ON E- BAY @ $1500 OFFER, IT IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF SELLERS TAKING ADVANTAGE OF UNINFORMED BUYERS. IT IS 1 OF 1 BUT NO WAY IS THAT ASKING PRICE CLOSE TO ITS ACTUAL VALUE. A 9.4 CGC GRADED ISSUE IS $100 AT BEST...SIGNED MAYBE $300 "TOPS". STILL NOT WORTH THE $1500 ASKING PRICE. SELLERS ARE BRUTAL TAKING ADVANTAGE OF BUYERS WITH THESE STUPID INFLATED PRICES. MORE FOUND GRADING 9.8 SHOULD MAKE THE PRICES DROP. THE 10C 1976 ISSUE SELLERS PRICES ON AVERAGE ARE OVER $399 + WITH MANY SELLERS ASKING PRICES "WAY" OVER VALUED. PRICES ARE INFLATED NOWHERE NEAR ACTUAL RETAIL VALUE. ANOTHER PRISTINE 1976 SAFEGUARD ISSUE 9.8 ON WAS BEEN ADDED TO THIS SET WITH NO CUTTING OF SAFEGUARD ON THE REVERSE. 1976 AND THE 1992 & 1993 SIGNED JERRY SIEGEL COPIES ARE THE YEARS THAT SELLERS ARE OVER PRICED VALUES. THE 1976 10c ISSUE PRICES RANGE FROM $375 - $1195 NOT WORTH THE HIGH-END PRICES.

| Action Comics 1 Universal |

|
SECOND ISSUE IN THIS SET OF THE 1976 FREE SAFEGUARD COMIC / THIS ONE IS BEAUTIFUL LOOKING / WELL PRINTED / BEAUTIFUL PRESERVED COLORS THAT HAS ALL OF THE WRITING OF "SAFEGUARD" ON THE REVERSE UNLIKE THE FIRST SAFEGUARD COMIC IN THIS SET WITH THE TOP CUT CLOSE. WANTED BOTH EXAMPLES SHOWING THE DIFFERENCE OF THE PRINTING OF THIS YEAR. YOU CAN ALSO SEE THIS COPY HAS LESS OF THE MANS BODY SHOWING ( BOTTOM LEFT CORNER ) THAN THE FIRST COPY WITH THE TOP CUT CLOSE. SPENT MORE FOR THIS ONE BUT WAS THE BEST PRICED TO DATE. THIS YEAR SELLERS ARE ALWAYS ASKING $599 TO $1000 THAT IS WAY OVERPRICED. PRICES LATELY SEEM TO BE DROPPING A BIT AS SELLERS ARE FINDING IT IS NOT WORTH THEIR ASKING PRICES. BUT ACROSS THE BOARD STILL OVERPRICED AS OF 10 -15 - 2016. THERE ARE 55 COPIES OF THIS 1976 FREE SAFEGUARD ISSUE GRADED 9.8 BY CGC. THE 10c COVER IS MORE SCARCE WITH ONLY 33 COPIES 9.8. A COMIC 40 YEARS OLD PROBABLY WILL STAY RELATIVELY LOW IN THE CGC POPULATION CENSUS BUT MORE HAVE BEEN GRADED RECENTLY. MOST SELLERS ARE CLUELESS ON ACTUAL WHOLESALE / RETAIL VALUES STILL PRICES ARE OUT OF LINE FOR BOTH 1976 SAFEGUARD ISSUE AND THE 10c ISSUE COVER PRICE. THERE IS CURRENTLY A COPY ON E-BAY THAT IS BID TO $274 SOLD WITH A $13 SHIPPING FEE. THIS IS MUCH MORE IN LINE TO ACTUAL VALVE ITS TIME E-BAY SELLERS REALIZE THEIR PRICES OVER $799 + IS RIDICULOUS.

1983 ACTION COMICS REPRINT 9.6 SUPERMAN PEANUT BUTTER REVERSE. | Action Comics 1 Modern |
9.6
|
1983 ACTION COMICS # 1 SUPERMAN REPRINT 10c ISSUE COVER PRICE. RARE PEANUT BUTTER SUPERMAN REVERSE COVER. THESE 1983 COPIES ARE DIFFICULT TO FIND IN HIGH GRADE. NOT MANY PEOPLE SAVED THIS ISSUE IN HIGH NUMBERS AND THERE JUST WERE NOT A LOT OF THESE COPIES PRINTED. KEPT THIS COPY FOR THE SET AFTER FINDING A RECENTLY GRADED 9.8 COPY. THERE ARE ONLY 10 COPIES TOTAL GRADED 9.6 OR HIGHER FOR THE ENTIRE 1983 YEAR. THIS PARTICULAR COPY IS NEAR IMMACULATE AND GRADED 9.6. AN AMAZING EXAMPLE OF THIS YEAR AND VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND IN HIGH GRADE. THERE ARE VERY FEW UNGRADED ISSUES AND THE BULK OF UNGRADED COPIES LOOK TO HAVE SIGNIFICANT PROBLEMATIC ISSUES. HIGHLY UNLIKELY THERE WILL BE MANY IF ANY MORE GRADING 9.6 AND HIGHER OF THIS 1983 REPRINT ISSUE. FOUR COPIES GRADED 9.8 IS RARE. 1983 9.8 COPIES ARE ONE OF THE RAREST LOW QUANTITIES GRADED IN THIS ENTIRE SET. AS OF 12 / 31 / 2016 TWO MORE COPIES WERE GRADED OF THE 1983 REPRINT, ONE GRADED 9.8, ONE GRADED 9.6. I DONT THINK THE CGC WILL INCREASE MUCH BECAUSE OF THE RARITY OF THESE 1983 COMICS.

1976 Action Comics #1 SUPERMAN Reprint 9.8 10c
Sleeping Bag
Reverse Cover Issue.
RARER OF TWO 1976 ISSUES PRINTED. | Action Comics 1 Modern |
9.8
|
1976 10c Action Comics Reprint / with the Sleeping Bag on Reverse. This is the one reprint in this series that 99% of the time always over priced by all sellers. Asking prices start at $795+ CGC graded and ungraded issues are overpriced as well. I waited for a long time to find one of these sleeping bag issue comics in a true e-bay auction and won as the highest bidder. Happy with the out come as this issue is very difficult to find at a reasonable price because sellers are clueless to its true value. Prices listed are just not worth what sellers are asking. Its a key comic to this set. Persistence paid off in waiting for the right time and won at a much better price compared to what is the offer by sellers.I look daily and the sleeping bag comic is rare to find reasonably priced. CGC pop is at 33 last time I checked & that possibility that could increase over time is not far out of line....not rare but a scarce issue / too many over zealous sellers with stupid asking prices.

1976 ACTION COMICS REPRINT #1 SUPERMAN 6.0 10c ERROR SLEEPING BAG ISSUE. | Action Comics 1 Modern |
6.0
|
1976 ACTION COMICS #1 SUPERMAN 10c COVER PRICE REPRINT THAT HAS A "PRINTING ERROR" WITH TWO COMICS STAPLED TOGETHER AT THE BINDING SEAM. THIS TYPE OF ERROR IS PRETTY RARE, SURPRISING IT HAS SURVIVED INTACT FOR OVER 40 YEARS WITH NO ONE SEPARATING THE TWO ISSUES. THIS COMIC COULD EASILY HAVE BEEN PULLED APART BY SOMEONE MAKES THE RARITY OF THIS SPECIFIC YEAR / MUCH RARER OF THE TWO COMICS PRINTED IN 1976 WITH THE FACT IT IS THE SLEEPING BAG COMIC AND TWO COMICS TOGETHER...RARE! THE SAFEGUARD FREE ISSUE IS MUCH MORE AVAILABLE THAN THE 10C ISSUE. NO WAY TO BE 100% POSITIVE BUT THIS IS MOST LIKELY THE ONLY ERROR PRINTED IN 1976 WITH TWO COMICS STAPLED TOGETHER STILL INTACT. CGC LUMPS ALL THE COMICS TOGETHER IN THE CENSUS, NO WAY TO TELL SPECIFIC ISSUES & QUANTITIES PRINTED. HAD SEEN IT FOR SALE UNGRADED ON E-BAY BUT AT THE TIME KNEW IT WOULDN'T GRADE 9.8 SO I PASSED ON BUYING IT AT AUCTION. DIDN'T OCCUR TO ME TO HAVE IT CGC GRADED AS AN UNUSUAL COMIC FOR THIS SET. BY CHANCE THE OWNER SENT IT TO CGC RELISTED AS A RARE COMIC, BUT WAY OVER PRICED, HE WAS ASKING $1500. OVER TIME THE SELLER KEPT LOWERING THE PRICE DAY BY DAY, WEEK BY WEEK TO WHERE IT WAS REASONABLY PRICED. HAPPY IT WAS LISTED AGAIN AS IT IS TRULY A RARE FIND. ONLY GRADES 6.0 BUT TWO COMICS IN ONE FROM THE MANUFACTURE IS TRULY A FANTASTIC FIND ADDING TO THE UNIQUENESS OF THIS SET. PRICE DROPPED A RARE ERROR OF A SCARCE ISSUE PERFECT ADDITION TO THIS SUPERMAN REPRINT SET.

1983 ACTION COMICS #1 SUPERMAN REPRINT 9.8 MISLABELED. ACTUALLY IS A 1987 COMIC LABELED 1983 ON HOLDER. | Action Comics 1 Modern |
9.8
|
THIS IS A MISLABELED 1983 ACTION COMICS SUPERMAN #1 REPRINT. THIS SUPERMAN REPRINT IS ACTUALLY 1987 IN A 1983 LABELED HOLDER, CGC MISSED THAT COPYRIGHT DATE WHEN SEALING IT IN THIS HOLDER. IT SHOULD READ 1987. THE EASY WAY TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE THE 1983 ISSUE HAS A SUPERMAN / PEANUT BUTTER ON THE REVERSE COVER. THIS SPECIFIC COPY HAS THE NESTLE QUICK BUNNY, THAT REVERSE WAS ONLY USED ON THE 1987 COMICS. THE 1983 SUPERMAN REPRINTS ARE RARE, ONLY FIVE COPIES HAVE GRADED 9.8. TWO COPIES RECENTLY GRADED (9- 28- 2016) AND IM 100% POSITIVE THIS IS THE 4TH COPY GRADED 9.8. ( BUT IS NOT 1983 IS ACTUALLY 1987). ONE MORE RECENTLY GRADED 9.8. AND IS A TRUE 1983 CORRECTLY LABELED ON THE HOLDER. THIS MEANS THERE STILL ARE ONLY 4 ACTUAL CGC 9.8 COPIES. CGC WOULD CORRECT THIS MISTAKE FOR FREE AFTER CHECKING IT IS ACTUALLY LABELED INCORRECTLY. CGC WOULD VERIFY THE MISTAKE. I HAVE CHOSEN TO LEAVE IT IN THIS HOLDER AS A KNOWN ERROR MISLABELED AND AN ODDITY FOR THIS SET. I AM 100% POSITIVE THIS IS THE 4TH EVER 9.8 CGC GRADED COMIC FOR THE 1983 YEAR. THE ONLY PROBLEM ITS INCORRECT, INTERESTING PIECE AND ADDS ANOTHER UNIQUENESS TO THIS SET.
THIS REPRINT IS IN CGCs NEW STYLE HOLDER, ANOTHER WAY TO TELL IT HAS BEEN RECENTLY GRADED. MANY PEOPLE MISTAKE THE 1983 AND 1987 COMICS, BECAUSE WHEN READING THE COPYRIGHT DATE LINE THEY SEE THE 1983 DATE BUT FAIL TO SEE THE 1987 ON THE SAME LINE SHORTLY WORDED AFTER 1983.THE COPYRIGHT DATE LINE MUST BE READ FULLY TO CONFIRM ACTUAL DATE. THE 1983 / 1987 SUPERMAN REPRINT COMIC EVEN CONFUSES CGC.

1983 ACTION COMICS #1 SUPERMAN 9.8 REPRINT. RARE COMIC | Action Comics 1 Modern |
9.8
|
1983 ACTION COMICS # 1 SUPERMAN REPRINT 10c ISSUE COVER PRICE. UNBELIEVABLE FOR A RECENT ISSUED COMIC HOW RARE 1983 IN THIS SERIES IS SO DIFFICULT TO FIND IN HIGH GRADE. NOT MANY PEOPLE SAVED THIS ISSUE IN HIGH NUMBERS AND THERE JUST WERE NOT A LOT OF THESE COPIES PRINTED. EVEN NOW 30 + YEARS LATER THIS IS A COMIC THAT ONLY HAS FIVE COPIES GRADED 9.8 AND SIX COPIES GRADED 9.6. WITH ONLY ONE SIGNATURE SERIES 1983 GRADED 9.4. THERE ARE ONLY 11 COPIES TOTAL GRADED 9.6 OR HIGHER FOR THE ENTIRE 1983 YEAR. THIS PARTICULAR COPY IS NEAR IMMACULATE GRADING 9.8. AN AMAZING EXAMPLE OF THIS YEAR AND VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND IN HIGH GRADE. THERE ARE VERY FEW UNGRADED ISSUES AND THE BULK OF UNGRADED COPIES HAVE SIGNIFICANT PROBLEMATIC ISSUES. HIGHLY UNLIKELY THERE WILL BE MANY IF ANY MORE GRADING 9.6 AND HIGHER OF THIS 1983 REPRINT ISSUE. FIVE COPIES GRADED 9.8 IS RARE...( SO FAR )...& COULD EASILY STAY THAT WAY. THIS COPY IS A HOLY GRAIL COMIC FOR THIS SET. BEAUTIFUL COPY AND PRETTY RARE CONSIDERING ALL FACTS THAT THERE ARE ONLY 11 TOTAL GRADED 9.6 OR HIGHER. THESE FACTS MAKES THE FIVE 1983 9.8 COPIES ONE OF THE RAREST LOW QUANTITIES GRADED FOR THIS ENTIRE SET. AS OF 12 / 31 / 2016 TWO MORE COPIES WERE GRADED OF THIS 1983 REPRINT, ONE GRADED 9.8, ONE GRADED 9.6. THE 9.8 COPY GRADED IS ACTUALLY A 1987 BUT CGC MISSED THAT AND HOLDER-ED IT 1983. IT HAS THE NESTLES QUICK BUNNY ON THE REVERSE IS THE EASY WAY TO TELL IT IS NOT 1983 BUT ACTUALLY A 1987 COMIC. THE NESTLE BUNNY WAS ONLY USED IN 1987. THE MISS HOLDER-ED 1987 / 1983 COMIC IS IN THIS SET.
THIS SPECIFIC COMIC WAS LISTED ON E-BAY WITH THE ASKING PRICE AS OF 1 / 16 / 2017 $699 / OFFER. SELLER ACCEPTED OFFER / ADDED TO THIS SET...ASKING PRICE WAS ON THE HIGH SIDE AS THE SUPERMAN REPRINTS STILL SUFFER THE SELLERS WITH THE OVER ASKING PRICE SYNDROME. NOT FAR OUT OF LINE IF THE COLLECTOR INTEREST WAS IN LINE WITH THE ASKING PRICES. JUST NOT THE CASE, TOO MANY SELLERS ARE CLUELESS ON TRUE VALUES, THIS 1983 YEAR ALONG WITH THE TWO COMICS PRINTED IN 1976 ARE ALWAYS OVER PRICED. ONE COPY MISS GRADED 1983 ACTUALLY IS 1987 COMIC YOU CAN SEE THE PROOF THE CGC MISS HOLDER-ED COMIC IS IN THIS SET. THERE ARE ONLY FOUR 1983 COPIES CGC GRADED 9.8 TOTAL NOT AS THE CGC CENSUS STATES OF FIVE.

1987 ACTION COMICS #1 SUPERMAN REPRINT 9.8 10C ISSUE. | Action Comics 1 Modern |
9.8
|
VERY NICE 9.8 HIGH-GRADE EXAMPLE OF THE 1987 SUPERMAN # 1 REPRINT. THIS YEAR IS A BIT EASIER FINDING IN HIGH GRADE BUT ONLY HAS ONLY 11 COPIES GRADED 9.8 (SO FAR). THAT NUMBER WOULD ACTUALLY INCREASE BY TWO AS THERE ARE 2 1987 ISSUES IN THIS SET THAT ARE MISLABELED ON THE HOLDER, ONE IS A 1983, THE OTHER IS A 1988. BUT BOTH OF THESE ARE ACTUALLY 1987 COMICS BUT CGC MISLABELED THE HOLDERS. THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE WAS SENT TO CGC BY ME & RECEIVED THE 9.8 GRADE. THE 1987 ISSUE IS OFTEN MISTAKEN FOR THE 1983. THE COMICS LOOK VERY MUCH ALIKE WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE REVERSE. YOU CAN DISTINGUISH THE TWO COMICS BY 1). FULLY READING THE COPYRIGHT DATELINE OR 2). LOOKING AT WHAT IS PRINTED ON THE REVERSE. ONE MUST KEEP READING AFTER THE 1983 COPYRIGHT DATE TO SEE THE "1987" IS PRINTED ON THE SAME. "EASY" TO MISTAKE THE TWO ISSUES IF NOT READING THE "ENTIRE" COPYRIGHT DATE LINE. 1983 ALSO HAS A PEANUT BUTTER SUPERMAN ON THE REVERSE WHERE THE 1997 HAS THE NESTLE QUICK BUNNY. THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE IS A 10c COVER PRICE & HAVE HEARD OF A 50c 1987 COVER PRICE BUT NEVER HAVE SEEN ONE OF THOSE ISSUES. NOT SURE IF IT EXISTS OR IS MISTAKEN INFORMATION. THERE IS ONLY ONE 1987 CGC GRADED 9.8 AS A SIGNATURE SERIES...KEEPING AN EYE OUT FOR THAT COMIC. COULD BE EXPENSIVE AND VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND. FEW 1987 COPIES ARE EVER FOR SALE / HAVE SEEN ONLY ONE UNGRADED THAT MAY GRADE 9.8. 1987 9.8 COPIES ARE SCARCE AND ARE SEMI DIFFICULT TO FIND.

1988 ACTION COMICS #1 Superman 9.8 actually is a 1987 mislabeled comic. 1987 LABELED 1988 ON HOLDER. | Action Comics 1 Modern |
9.8
|
1987 #1 9.8 Superman Action Comic reprint mislabeled as 1988 on the CGC holder. What makes this an unusual comic is 1987 comic mislabeled as printed in 1988. No 10c 1988 comics were printed with 10c cover price, they were only printed with 50c covers/none w/ 1988. 1987s the Nestle Quick Bunny on the reverse and also those 1988 printings had glossy paper as opposed the newspaper print like earlier issues as this 1987 reprint. There can not be many CGC graded mistakes like this one, making this another unusual comic for this 9.8 reprints/variant set. This comic is actually printed in 1987 as of 4 / 1 / 2016 there are only 12 copies graded by CGC making this a very scarce comic. This comic may be 1 of 1 1988 mislabeled with a 9.8 mixed in with the 1988 census #s. Total 1987 CGC Superman #1 Reprints of this issue is now 13.

1988 ACTION COMICS REPRINT 9.8 50C ISSUE. 50 YEAR ANNIVERSARY COPY. YEAR WITH MOST 9.8s GRADED. | Action Comics 1 Modern |
9.8
|
1988 SUPERMAN FIFTY YEAR ANNIVERSARY ISSUE...THIS COMIC HAS 192 COPIES GRADED 9.8 MORE THAN MOST ALL OTHER YEARS COMBINED. ( est that # of copies was around 4 - 1 - 20160. SIX COPIES ALONE HAVE GRADED 9.8 IN THE LAST TWO MONTHS. (as of 10 - 7 - 2016 there are 220). PRICES OF THIS ISSUE ARE ALL OVER THE BOARD RANGING FROM $125 + SHIPPING TO $400 +. PERSONALLY THINK ITS WORTH $80 SHIPPING INC. NO PROBLEM FINDING 9.8 GRADED COPIES OF THIS YEAR. MANY COPIES ARE "WAY" OVER WHAT THESE COMICS ARE WORTH. SEEING SELLERS WITH THE ASKING PRICE OF $299 + FOR THIS ISSUE DRIVES ME NUTS! ITS TRULY ONLY WORTH $75 TOPS. "GET A GRIP PEOPLE QUIT TRYING TO SCREW EVERYONE". AS OF TODAY 9 -18 - 2016 THERE ARE ONLY TWO COPIES GRADED 9.9. ONE OF THOSE TWO IS IN AN E-BAY AUCTION CLOSING IN TWO DAYS. THE PRICE IS CURRENTLY @ $792.NOT SURE AT THIS POINT IF I WILL BID TO WIN OR LET THAT ONE SLIDE BY. JUST CHECKED THE PRICE LITERALLY FIVE MINUTES AGO PRICE BID UP TO $820 NOW. IT WOULD BE A GREAT ADDITION TO THIS SET, BUT NOT POSITIVE IT WOULD BE A GOOD INVESTMENT AS THIS IS THE ONE YEAR IN THE REPRINT SERIES THAT HAS THE MOST COPIES GRADED 9.8. IT IS THE ONE YEAR MOST LIKELY TO HAVE A 9.8s GRADED, AND AT CURRENT VALUES OF THE 1988 YEAR, WORTH ABOUT $110 SHIPPED, THE 9.9 MAY NOT BE WORTH SUCH A HUGE PREMIUM FOR THAT TENTH OF A GRADING POINT. WILL SEE IF I ENTER THE BIDDING RACE UNCERTAIN AT THIS POINT JUST DON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE EVEN THOUGH IT IS ONE OF TWO COPIES GRADED 9.9. NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE FOR THE UNTRAINED EYE TO SEE ANY DIFFERENCE TO JUSTIFY THE PRICE DIFFERENCE. THE COPY OF THE 9.9 SOLD FOR $1231 MIXED EMOTIONS IF UNDER PRICED OR OVER PRICED / UNCERTAIN IF IT A GOOD OR BAD INVESTMENT. HAVE BOUGHT LOW CGC POP COMICS FOR MUCH LESS WITH LOW POPULATION NUMBERS. THIS WOULD BE THE MOST EXPENSIVE PURCHASE FOR A LOW QUANTITY GRADED. ONE OF THE EASY WAYS TO TELL THIS REPRINT FROM OTHER REPRINTS IS THE GARBAGE CAN ON THE COVER BOTTOM LEFT CORNER. MOST REPRINTS HAVE SOMETHING TO LOOK FOR THAT GIVE CLUES TO THE YEAR IT WAS PRINTED. THE GARBAGE CAN ON THIS ONE MAKES IT EASY TO SPOT ITS THE 1988 FIFTY YEAR ANNIVERSARY ISSUE. THIS YEAR ALSO HAS COPIES SOLD AS A DIRECT ISSUE WITH A BAR CODE IN PLACE OF THE GARBAGE CAN. THAT ISSUE IS MORE DIFFICULT TO FIND IN HIGH GRADE FEWER PRINTED AND DIFFICULT FINDING CGC GRADED COPIES FOR SALE. HAD THE OPPORTUNITY BUY ONE OF THE 9.8 BAR CODE COPIES FOR $110 + SHIPPING AND LITERALLY OVER THOUGHT IT AND IT SOLD...THAT WAS A GOOD DEAL NOT MANY CGC COPIES, MISSED A GOOD COPY FOR THIS RARE SET. 1988 WAS THE FIRST YEAR THE COVERS WERE PRINTED WITH A GLOSSY STOCK PAPER ON THE FRONT COVER. THE 1974 WAS AN OVER SIZED EDITION WITH A LARGE GLOSSY OUTER COVER. THE 2 1976 ISSUES, THE 1983, AND THE 1987 COVERS WERE ALL PRINTED IN THE NEWSPAPER PAPER ON THE FRONT COVERS. NO ISSUES AFTER 1987 HAVE BEEN PRINTED WITH THE NEWSPAPER THAT IS ONE WAY TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SOME OF THE EARLY REPRINTS OF THIS ACTION COMICS #1 SUPERMAN REPRINT. 1988 ANNIVERSARY ISSUE HAS 220 9.8s GRADED WITH A HUGE POSSIBILITY OF MORE 9.8s COULD BE GRADED IN THE FUTURE A BIG REASON PASSED ON THE 9.9 ON E-BAY. IF IT WAS A DIFFERENT YEAR 100% PROBABLY WOULD HAVE BID TO WIN. SO EVEN THOUGH THE 9.9 WOULD HAVE BEEN A GREAT ADDITION TO THIS SET NO BIG DEAL MISSED THAT COMIC FOR THE SELLING PRICE OF $1231 NOT ADDED TO THIS SET.

1991 ACTION COMICS 50c BLACK BOX REPRINT EDITION 9.4. | Action Comics 1 Modern |
9.4
|
ACTION COMICS 1991 50c BLACK BOX REPRINT EDITION 9.4. EVERY FEW YEARS DC ISSUED THESE REPRINTS KEEPING INTEREST IN THE #1 SUPERMAN FROM 1938, & PEOPLE KEPT BUYING THE NEW RELEASES. EACH REPRINT HAD A SLIGHT VARIATION FROM PREVIOUS YEARS MAKING IT EASIER TO DISGUNINSH FROM OTHER YEARS PRINTED. THIS 1991 IS NO EXCEPTION. THE PRICE IS IN A "BLACK BOX" WITH A RETAIL PRICE OF 50c. MANY OF THE REPRINTS NOT ONLY DID THE COLOR AND SIZE OF THE BOX CHANGE SO DID THE PRICE. EXAMPLE: THE 1988 ANNIVERSARY REPRINT HAD TWO COMICS PRINTED THAT YEAR, ONE WITH A 50c COVER, AND ONE WITH A $1 COVER.
THE 1988 50c COVER WAS PRINTED WITH A WHITE BOX, WHERE AS THE $1 COVER WAS PRINTED WITH A BLACK BOX. THE $1 COVER HAD A GARBAGE CAN LOWER LEFT CORNER, WHERE THE 50c WHITE PRICED BOX COVER HAD A BAR CODE IN PLACE OF THE GARBAGE CAN AND WAS A DIRECT SALES EDITION, SOLD ON NEWSSTANDS. THE DIRECT SALES EDITIONS ARE MUCH RARER IN HIGH GRADE BECAUSE OF THE WAY THEY WERE HANDLED, AND FEWER COMICS PRINTED.
THIS YEAR OF 1991 THERE ARE ONLY FIVE GRADED COPIES ON THE CGC CENSUS,
ONE GRADED 3.5,
ONE GRADED 6.5,
ONE GRADED 9.0,
ONE GRADED 9.2,
AND THIS HIGHEST GRADED COPY 9.4.
VERY DIFFICULT FINDING A 1991 IN GOOD ENOUGH CONDITION TO BE GRADED. ALL 1991s SEEM TO HAVE PROBLEMATIC ISSUES THAT WOULD KEEP THEM FROM GRADING HIGHER THAN THIS 9.4. WILL UPGRADE IF EVER FINDING A PRISTINE COPY BUT THAT IS HIGHKY UNLIKELY.

1988 ACTION COMICS #1 REPRINT BAR CODE DIRECT SALES EDITION 9.6. | Action Comics 1 Modern |
9.6
|
1988 ACTION COMICS #1 SUPERMAN REPRINT DIRECT SALES EDITION 9.6. THIS IS ANOTHER INTERESTING ISSUE IN THIS REPRINT SERIES. 1988 IS THE ONE YEAR OF REPRINTS THAT HAS THE MOST COPIES ON THE CGC CENSUS. THERE WERE TWO COPIES PRINTED THIS YEAR ONE WITH A GARBAGE CAN WITH THE 50 YEAR LOGO BOTTOM LEFT CORNER, THE OTHER A DIRECT SALES EDITION WITH A BAR CODE IN PLACE OF THE GARBAGE CAN. FEWER COPIES OF THIS ISSUE WERE PRINTED THUS THE REASON FEW TO BE FOUND IN HIGH GRADE.
THE ONLY WAY TO GET THESE COPIES WAS AT NEWSTANDS, OR STORES SELLING MAGAZINES. BECAUSE THE DIRECT SALES EDITIONS, SALES HAD FALLEN OFF SO DRASTICALLY FOR THE COMIC BOOK COMPANIES THEY REDUCED THE QUANTITIES AVAILABLE FOR DIRECT SALE IN MANY CASES BY 90%, AND JUST NOT MANY WERE PRINTED. BECAUSE OF THE WAY THEY WERE HANDLED THAT REDUCED MANY SURVIVING IN HIGH GRADE. THERE IS NO PROBLEM FINDING A 1988 REGULAR SALES EDITION IN HIGH GRADE OF 9.8. VERY EASY TO FIND. BUT THESE DIRECT SALES COPIES ARE A HORSE OF A DIFFERENT COLOR.
I HAVE LITERALLY LOOKED FOR YEARS AND MADE THE MISTAKE EARLY ON NOT BUYING A 9.8 COPY WHEN IT WAS FOR SALE ON EBAY FOR $110 + SHIPPING. IM ALMOST 100% POSITIVE THAT 9.8 COPY IS HIGHLY LIKELY ONE OF TWO ONLY 9.8 CGC GRADED COPIES. NO WAY TO BE CERTAIN BECAUSE CGC LUMPS THE TWO YEARS TOGETHER, BUT IT IS THE ONLY COPY I HAVE EVER SEEN UNTIL TODAY WHEN I FOUND ANOTHER 9.8 COPY AND I PURCHASED THAT ONE IMMEDIATELY. DOSENT MEAN THERE IS ONLY TWO, BUT JUST FEELING I HAVE THAT THE EST IS CORRECT. I MISSED THE CHANCE TO ADD THAT COMIC TO THIS UNIQUE COLLECTION, WILL JUMP ON ANY COPY IF I EVER SEE A 9.8 AGAIN, AND DID TODAY. 10 / 24 / 2017.
THIS 9.6 COPY IS THE ONLY 9.6 DIRECT SALES EDITION ALSO ONE OF TWO COPIES I HAVE EVER SEEN. IT WAS FOR SALE FOR MONTHS AND I PASSED BECAUSE I THOUGHT THE ASKING PRICE WAS TOO HIGH. BUT IN REALITY, IS PROBABLY ONLY ONE OF A FEW 9.6 CGC GRADED DIRECT SALES COPIES. THEY JUST DONT COME UP OFTEN. PRICE WAS MORE THAN WANTED TO PAY BUT NOT COMPLETELY OUT OF LINE, AND A COPY NEEDED FOR THIS SET. WITH THE CHANCE IT COULD BE ONE OF LESS THAN 5 DECIDED TO ADD IT TO THIS COLLECTION, EVEN THOUGH NOT MY COVETED 9.8 GRADE.
STILL, A VERY DIFFICULT COMIC TO FIND, MORE SO IN HIGH GRADE, IS A SLEEPER IN THIS SET AS THE 1988 CGC CENSUS MAY CONFUSE MANY THAT DONT KNOW ABOUT THE DIRECT SALES EDITION MADE IN MUCH FEWER QUANTITIES. SO EVEN AFTER FINDING A 9.8 COPY AFTER LOOKING FOR ONE FOR A LONG TIME, ONLY SEEING ONE OTHER 9.6 DECIDED TO KEEP THIS 9.6 IN THIS SET.

1988 ACTION COMICS REPRINT W/BAR CODE DIRECT SALES EDITION 9.8. | Action Comics 1 Modern |
9.8
|
1988 ACTION COMICS #1 SUPERMAN REPRINT DIRECT SALES EDITION 9.8. FEWER COPIES OF THIS ISSUE WERE PRINTED THUS THE REASON FEW TO BE FOUND.
THE ONLY WAY TO GET THESE COPIES WAS AT NEWSTANDS, OR STORES SELLING MAGAZINES. BECAUSE THE DIRECT SALES, SALES HAD FALLEN OFF SO DRASTICALLY FOR THE COMIC BOOK COMPANIES THEY REDUCED THE QUANTITIES AVAILABLE FOR DIRECT SALES IN MANY CASES BY 90%, AND JUST NOT MANY WERE PRINTED. WITH LUCK ANOTHER 9.8 BAR CODED COPY WAS FOUND 10/24/2017.
THIS 9.8 COPY IS THE ONLY OTHER 9.8 DIRECT SALES EDITION I HAVE EVER SEEN, PURCHASE WAS MADE IMMEDIATELY WHEN SEEN. A 9.6 COPY HAS BEEN FOR SALE FOR MONTHS AND I PASSED BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT WAS OVER PRICED. IT WAS PROBABLY ONLY ONE OF A FEW 9.6 CGC GRADED COPIES. THEY JUST DONT COME UP OFTEN. PRICE WAS MORE THAN WANTED TO PAY BUT NOT COMPLETLY OUT OF LINE, AND A COPY NEEDED FOR THIS SET. SO PURCHASED THE 9.6 ONLY LITERALLY TO FIND THIS 9.8 10 DAYS LATER. BUT STILL THE CHANCE IT COULD BE ONE OF LESS THAN 5 DECIDED TO ADD IT TO THIS COLLECTION, EVEN THOUGH NOT MY COVETED 9.8 GRADE. UNSURE IF THE 9.6 CAN BE RETURNED.

1992 ACTION COMICS REPRINT 9.8 10c ISSUE. RARE FINDING A 9.8 10c CGC ISSUE. | Action Comics 1 Modern |
9.8
|
1992 ACTION COMICS REPRINT 9.8 10c ISSUE. VERY INTERESTING # 1 SUPERMAN COMIC REPRINT. THIS YEAR CGC HAS GRADED 11 COMIC BOOKS TOTAL 9.8. THE PROBLEM IS THERE ARE TWO DIFFERENT BOOKS PRINTED THIS YEAR A 10c ISSUE AND A $1 ISSUE BOTH ARE ADDED TOGETHER IN THE CGC CENSUS. THIS MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE TO DIFFERENTIATE THE TWO COMICS GRADED BY PRICE. THIS IS ONE OF MAYBE THREE 1992 10c ISSUE GRADED 9.8. THE 10c ISSUE IS VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND IN HIGH GRADE ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE FINDING 9.8. ALTHOUGH 11 ISSUES GRADED FEEL CERTAIN THIS IS ONE OF JUST A FEW WITH THIS ELUSIVE HIGH GRADE. FROM THAT FIRST WRITING THE CGC CENSUS FOR 9.8 COPIES HAS RISEN TO 22. UNCERTAIN HOW MANY MAY OR MAY NOT BE THE 10c ISSUES COPIES. TODAY'S DATE AFTER THE FIRST CENSUS 9 - 25 -2016. THERE IS NO WAY TO KNOW EXACTLY HOW MANY 10c ISSUES HAVE BEEN GRADED BUT HIGHLY LIKELY ONLY A FEW / PROBABLY LESS THAN THREE OR FOUR THIS MAY HAVE BEEN INCREASED BUT NO WAY TO TELL, BUT CERTAINLY MUCH LESS THAN THE $1 COPIES.

1992 ACTION COMICS $1 COVER ISSUE PRICE 9.8. $1 COPY MORE COMMON THAN 10c ISSUE. | Action Comics 1 Modern |

1992 ACTION COMICS $1 ISSUE COVER PRICE. ONLY 22 COPIES SO FAR GRADED 9.8 THAT ARE UNSIGNED. THERE ARE ALSO 24 COPIES SIGNED BY CREATOR JERRY SIEGEL ALSO GRADED 9.8. SO THIS YEAR IS SEMI SCARCE IN HIGH GRADE. WAS DIFFICULT FINDING THIS COPY PAID MORE THAN WANTED TO BUT WAS THE ONLY COPY FOUND FOR SALE IN ALMOST 1 YEAR. NEEDED IT FOR THIS SET AND IS A GREAT LOOKING HIGH GRADE COMIC. SEEMS THAT OTHER OWNERS ARE HOLDING ON TO THEIR COPIES SO BIT THE BULLET ON THE PRICE TO SECURE IT FOR THIS SET. INTERESTING NOTE THE 1993 ISSUE IS MUCH MORE RARE THAN THIS COPY OF THE SAME COMIC WITH ONLY DIFFERENT BEING THE YEAR PRINTED.

1993 ACTION COMICS REPRINT 9.8 SIGNED BY JERRY SIEGEL. ONLY 15 CGC GRADED COPIES. | Action Comics 1 Qualified |
9.8
|
REALLY NICE EXAMPLE OF THIS HIGH GRADE SIGNED COPY BY JERRY SIEGEL. THERE WERE 2000 COPIES SIGNED BY JERRY IN 1992 & 1993. SO FAR NOT A LOT OF 9.8s HAVE BEEN GRADED IN THIS1993 YEAR. THE TOTAL IS 18 9.8 GRADED / 15 OF THOSE ARE QUALIFIED GRADE & MOST LIKELY THE JERRY SIEGEL SIGNED ISSUE. THE OTHER THREE COPIES ARE REGULAR ISSUES WITH NO SIGNATURE MAKING THE UNSIGNED COPIES MUCH MORE RARE. THE POSSIBILITY FOR MORE IS HIGHLY POSSIBLE THERE HAS TO BE MANY NICE COMICS NOT YET GRADED HIDEN IN DRAWERS SOMEWHERE. I FOUND THIS COPY IN JAPAN KNEW WHEN HOLDING IT, 99% SURE IT WOULD GRADE 9.8. VERY HAPPY WHEN IT WAS RETURNED BY CGC & I WAS CORRECT. ASKING PRICES FOR THIS ISSUE IN 9.8 GRADE IS $2500 ON MOST ALL AVAILABLE COPIES. I DON'T AGREE WITH OTHERS ASSUMPTIONS AND FEEL THAT IS A HIGHLY INFLATED PRICE. TRUE VALUE IS WHAT ONE IS WILLING TO PAY. REALISTICALLY ITS $1000 - $1500 PERSONALLY FEEL THAT IS ACTUALLY HIGH AS 33 9.8s IS NOT RARE BUT STILL OVER PRICED.THE SECOND PICTURE IS THE COPY BEFORE I SENT TO CGC FOR GRADING. IT REALLY IS WORTH THE GRADE GIVEN ALMOST A FLAWLESS COPY. AS CLOSE TO 9.9 OR 10 AS ONE COULD POSSIBLY FIND, JUST WISH THE PRICES WERE MORE IN LINE TO ACTUAL "REAL" VALUE. SO MANY SELLERS ARE TRYING TO TAKE ADVANTAGE THINKING THE COPIES ARE MORE VALUABLE THAN THEY REALLY ARE. SO MANY OTHER ISSUE`S SIGNED BY CREATOR JERRY SIEGEL ARE NO WHERE NEAR THE ASKING PRICES OF THIS 1938 # 1 SUPERMAN REPRINT.

9.8
|
1993 ACTION COMICS #1 SUPERMAN REPRINT UNSIGNED. 2000 COPIES WERE SIGNED BY JERRY AND ALL OF THOSE COMICS ARE EITHER 1992 OR 1993. INTERESTING THAT MANY OF THOSE COMICS THE TWO YEARS ARE MIXED TOGETHER MAKING NUMBERED COPIES NUMERICALLY IN SEQUENCE BY YEAR IMPOSSIBLE BECAUSE THE TWO YEARS WERE MIXED TOGETHER WHEN BEING SIGNED. OWN THE 1993 ISSUE SIGNED # 695 AND HAVE SEEN # 675 NUMBERED COPY DATED 1992. UNSURE WHY OR HOW THE TWO YEARS WERE MIXED TOGETHER BUT MAKES THE 1993 AND THE 1992 UNUSUAL BECAUSE TWO DIFFERENT YEARS AND NUMBER COPIES HAVE BOTH YEARS COMBINED / SIGNED. MOST OF THE COPIES OF THIS YEAR ARE SIGNED BY JERRY SIEGEL AND BRING A HUGE PREMIUM BECAUSE OF THAT SIGNATURE. SIGNED COPIES PRICE RANGE AVERAGE IS $2500 EA. THE SIGNED1993 IS MUCH MORE SCARCE THAN THE 1992 SIGNED COPIES AND IS RARE UNSIGNED FOR THE 1993 YEAR WITH ONLY 3 COPIES TOTAL GRADE BY CGC. LOOKS LIKE MANY COMICS WERE DEDICATED FOR THIS SIGNING AND ALMOST NONE SENT TO CGC UNSIGNED. THERE ARE A HANDFUL FOR SALE UNGRADED DATED 1993 VERY FEW OF THOSE WOULD GRADE ABOVE 9.6 MAKING THE UNSIGNED 9.8 COPIES RARE.

1998 ACTION COMICS REPRINT 9.8 USPS FIRST DAY OF ISSUE CANCELED AND STAMPED. | Action Comics 1 Modern |
9.8
|
THE 1998 USPS FIRST DAY OF ISSUE SUPERMAN REPRINT COMIC...KNEW THIS COPY WOULD GRADE 9.8 WHEN HOLDING IT IN MY HAND. SENT THIS TO CGC IN 2014 AND GRADED 9.8. THIS IS A LOW POP COMIC ON THE CGC CENSUS & IS AN OUTSTANDING COPY FOR THIS SET. POP IN THE CGC CENSUS FOR THIS COMIC IS SLOWLY RISING ON THE CHARTS AS EXPECTED WHAT WAS ONCE A SCARCE ISSUE IS BECOMING MORE COMMON. POP IS NOW 25 AS OF 9 / 2 / 2016, COULD BE A COMMON ISSUE BUT SCARCE IN HIGH GRADE SO FAR AND A COOL VARIANT OF THE 1976 - 2004 REPRINTS. MANY OF THE COPIES OF THIS YEAR HAVE MINOR IMPERFECTIONS KEEPING THEM FROM THE 9.8 GRADE. THE POP OF THESE 1998 USPS 9.8S IS SLOWLY RISING. ONE THAT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND IS THE UN STAMPED USPS ISSUES. HAVE HEARD THERE ARE SOME OUT THERE BUT FINDING THEM IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT.
THESE WOULD BE COMICS THAT MAY HAVE SOME IMPERFECTIONS ON THEM RENDERING THEM UNSUITABLE FOR SELLING TO CONSUMERS. NO ONE WANTS TO PURCHASE PRODUCTS IN POOR CONDITION. ITS UNCERTAIN WHAT HAS HAPPENED THESE COMICS. THERE HAS TO BE SOME UN STAMPED COPIES NO WAY TO TELL HOW MANY BUT MUST BE FEW QUANTITIES.
UP DATE 1 / 14 / 2017 FINALLY FOUND THE VERY ELUSIVE 1998 USPS UN STAMPED / NOT CANCELED BY THE POST OFFICE SUPERMAN REPRINT. HAVE LITERALLY LOOKED AT 1000s OF COMICS OVER MANY YEARS THIS IS THE VERY FIRST TIME HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO BUY ONE. WAS VERY SURPRISED TO SEE IT WAS IN AN AUCTION WITH A BUY IT NOW PRICE BOUGHT IT IMMEDIATELY. AS EXPECTED IT HAD A MINOR TEAR ON THE FLAP WHERE POST OFFICE STAMPS AND DATE CANCELS THE POSTAGE.
VERY MINOR TEAR / 99 9/10th% SURE WHY THIS COPY WAS NEVER STAMPED AND POLY BAGGED FOR SALE. IF NOT FOR THAT TEAR IM 100% SURE THIS COPY WOULD GRADE 9.8. THAT WOULD BE AN INCREDIBLE FIND TO HAVE A 9.8 UN STAMPED / NOT CANCELED FOR THIS SET. THE COMIC IS STUNNING IN COLOR, SHARPNESS OF THE CORNERS AND THE FLATNESS...IT IS BEAUTIFUL! EXCEPT FOR THAT TEAR...SURE IT IS THE REASON POST OFFICE NEVER GOT IT. WILL BE SENDING IT TO CGC SOON WILL BE 100% SHOCKED IF DOSEN`T GRADE A 9.6, BUT SURE WOULD BE A FIND IF CAN EVER FIND ONE THAT DOES GRADE 9.8 BUT SERIOUSLY DOUBT THAT WILL EVER HAPPEN, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE ITS A RARE ISSUE NOT STAMPED.

9.8
|
VERY NICE HIGH GRADE COMIC ONLY 6 TOTAL GRADED SO FAR 9.8. PICTURE IS USED FROM ORIGINAL OWNER OF THIS REPRINT. THE MILLENNIUM ISSUE WAS THE LAST OF THE REPRINTS WITH THE EXCEPTION ON AN ISSUE PRINTED IN 2004 THAT WAS A MINIATURE COMIC BOOK. HAVE SEEN IT ADVERTISED NEVER SEEN IT IN PERSON. PRICES FOR THE MINATURE 2004 ISSUE SEEM TO BE IN THE $150 RANGE. NOT MANY OF THEM OUT THERE EVEN OFFERED FOR SALE. UNSURE IF ANY CGC GRADED COPIES. POSSIBILITY OF MORE DOWN THE ROAD TO BE GRADED IN THE HIGH 9.8 GRADE IS DEFINITELY POSSIBLE FOR THE 2000 MILLENNIUM ISSUE. INTERESTING THOUGH IT IS ALSO ONE OF THE YEARS WITH MINOR PROBLEMS KEEPING THEM FROM GRADING 9.8. I SENT ONE COPY TO BE GRADED AND WAS OFF AS THAT COPY ONLY GRADED 8.O...THAT WAS A BIG SURPRISE MY EYE WAS SO FAR OFF IN WHAT I THOUGHT IT WOULD GRADE.

9.6
|
DC COMICS ACTION COMICS #1 USPS REPRINT. NOT CANCELED OR STAMPED BY THE POST OFFICE! THIS IS A SUPER COOL COMIC FOR THIS SET. THERE ARE NOT NUMBERS TO SEE EXACTLY HOW MANY OF THESE ARE IN THE COLLECTING COMMUNITY. THEY ARE KNOWN TO HAVE BEEN CIRCULATED WITHOUT THE POSTAGE STAMP AND THE CANCELING STAMP BUT NO KNOWN NUMBERS. THEY HAVE TO BE FEW, AND FEWER IN HIGH GRADE. SOME COPIES ARE ALSO KNOW WITH OUT THE FLAP. UNCERTAIN IF REMOVED BY CUSTOMERS? NOT SURE BUT HIGH GRADE COPIES MUST BE LESS THAN 5. THIS COPY IS SO CLOSE TO IMMACULATE ITS SAD THE ONE POINT THAT GIVES IT THE 9.6 GRADE MUST BE THE REASON THE POST OFFICE DIDN'T STAMP IT. BUT THAT IS A BEST GUESS. ON THE FLAP NEAR THE BOTTOM THERE IS A VERY SMALL CUT. PRETTY SURE 99% THIS IS A ONE OF ONE MISSING THE STAMP. VERY COOL ADDITION FOR THIS SET.

2016 LIVERPOOL DEPT STORE MEXICAN EDITION PRINTED IN SPANISH. 9.4. FIRST COPY PRINTED. | Action Comics 1 Modern |
9.4
|
2016 LIVERPOOL DEPT STORE MEXICAN EDITION PRINTED IN SPANISH / 9.4. IM NOT 100% THAT LIVERPOOL WAS THE DEPARTMENT STORE CHAIN USED INFORMATION FROM SELLER STILL NEED TO CONFIRM. THIS IS THE FIRST COPY CGC GRADED. AS OF 7 - 26 - 2017 THERE ARE ONLY 4 COPIES GRADED ALL ARE 9.4 COPIES. THIS CERT # ENDING 7001 IS THE LOWEST OF THE 4 NUMERICALLY & I HAVE SEEN ALL 4 OF THE OTHER COPIES. THERE CERT #S WERE 7002, 7003, 7004. THAT MAKES THIS THE FIRST COPY CGC GRADED. THESE COMICS WERE NOT HANDLED WELL CAME WITH FIVE OTHER COMICS IN A POLYBAG. PRINTED ON VERY THIN PAPER LIKELIHOOD FINDING BETTER COPIES WILL PROVE TO BE DIFFICULT. HIGHER ASKING PRICE BECAUSE ONLY SOLD IN MEXICO. $50+ FOR SINGLE ISSUE AND OR WITH THE OTHER 5 IN POLYBAG.
ALWAYS LOOKING FOR HIGH-GRADE ISSUES FOR THIS SET, THIS PARTICULAR COMIC COULD BE THE MOST DIFFICULT TO FIND IN HIGHER GRADES AS IT IS PLAGUED WITH ISSUES NOT WARRANTED FOR HIGH-GRADE COMICS. THIS COMIC WAS LISTED TWICE BEFORE MY PURCHASE, FIRST TIME SOLD FOR $40, SECOND TIME SOLD FOR $71. BOTH TIMES WERE BOUGHT BUY SHILL BIDDING FROM THE SELLER, THEN LISTED AGAIN WHEN I BOUGHT IT. IT WAS $20 LESS THAN THE MOST EXPENSIVE BID @$71, ONLY $10 MORE THAN THE LOWEST.
UNABLE TO FIND AN UNGRADED COPY LESS THAN $50, BECAUSE OF THE WAY THIS ISSUE WAS PRINTED DOUBT THEY WOULD GRADE HIGHER THAN THIS 9.4 COPY, HAVING IT ALREADY IN A CGC HOLDER IS A PLUS. WILL BE DIFFICULT FINDING A 9.8 COPY FOR NOW 9.4 IS ONE OF FOUR GRADED AND COULD BE THE HIGHEST GRADE THESE COMICS RECEIVE,

MARVEL COMICS 1988 9.8 AMAZING SPIDER MAN # 306 TODD Mc FARLANE SWIPE COVER. | Amazing Spider-Man 306 Modern |
9.8
|
Unsigned copy of the 1988 #306 Amazing Spider man # 1 Issue swipe cover. Quite a few 9.8 grades available for this issue...last count was 214 total 9.8 copies including Signature Series and comics with no signature like the one pictured. AS of9 - 25 - 2016 there are now 222 copies graded 9.8. 7 copies added since the first review best setimate of that being around a year ago. There is a direct issue comic with a bar code where the Spider man face is bottom left corner, different cover have not seen one graded by CGC yet. Unsure of how many if any of the 214 are 9.8 grades could be the direct issue. No way to tell the CGC census combines all the copies together. want the direct issue for this set as another variant. Signature Series have at 25 copies signed as of this writing. Included in this set are two other copies of this issue Signature Series...one signed by Stan Lee, the other signed by Stan Lee and Todd Mc Farlane. Makes this set a little more interesting with the different variables. Goal to have as many different Signature Series signed by different artists writers and story lines for each issue for each year. This 1988 Amazing Spider man #306 Signature Series could have a few more I haven't seen yet time will tell on finding different copies signed, many more may become available because this year seems to have many 9.8 graded copies.

2017 LOOT CRATE EDITION 9.8. 2/17 VERY FIRST 9.8 GRADED. | Action Comics 1 Modern |
9.8

2017 9.8 LOOT CRATE EDITION. PAID TOP DOLLAR TO SECURE THIS COMIC AS IT IS ONLY ONE OF THE FIRST THREE 9.8 COPIES GRADED ON THE CGC CENSUS AS OF 8 / 26 / 2017. OVER TIME THAT PROBABLY WONT ADD TO THE VALUE WITH POSSIBILITY MORE COULD GRADE 9.8. THIS COMIC WAS PRINTED ON LIGHTWEIGHT NEWSPAPER MAKING 9.8s SCARCE. GOOD DECISION OR BAD PAYING THIS MUCH? THE COMIC WAS LISTED AS A BUY IT NOW / BEST OFFER, WITH AN OFFER PENDING. HAD NO IDEA WHAT THE OFFER WAS. KNEW THERE MIGHT NOT BE MANY MORE CHANCES TO FIND ANOTHER 9.8.
IF MY OFFER WAS LOWER THAN THE FIRST I MAY LOSE THE OPPORTUNITY TO BUY THIS COMIC, DID NOT WANT TO LOSE IT KNOWING ONLY THREE 9.8 GRADED ISSUES. THEY CAME IN A SMALL BOX WITH PINS AND OTHER COLLECTIBLES THE PAPER WAS SO THIN, FINDING HIGH-GRADE COPIES WILL BE DIFFICULT. THE CGC CENSUS POPULATION OF THESE SPECIFIC ISSUES, AS OF 7 / 2 / 2017 (25) COPIES TOTAL GRADED, BASICALLY, 12 IN EVERY 100 HAS THE POTENTIAL OF BEING A 9.8. 12% FOR A COPY PRINTED ON SUCH THIN PAPER ACTUALLY IS A HIGH NUMBER, DOUBT THERE WILL ACTUALLY BE 5% PER 100 GRADED.
DEFINITELY, MORE COULD BE GRADED 9.8 SO IT WAS A DIFFICULT DECISION PAYING TOP DOLLAR, WITH SOME LUCK FEW MORE WILL GRADE THIS HIGH. AT BEST MAY HAVE SAVED $100 BUT OK AS THIS IS A GREAT ADDITION TO THE SET AND GUT FEELING FEW MORE WILL GRADE 9.8 FROM NOW ON...TIME WILL TELL.

9.8
|
AMAZING SPIDERMAN #306 MARVEL COMICS OCTOBER 1988 DIRECT SALES EDITION 9.8. I LOOKED FOR FIVE YEARS TO FIND ONE OF THESE COMICS OF THIS ISSUE. WHAT`S SPECIAL ABOUT THIS COMIC THAT TOOK FIVE YEARS TO FIND? ITS THE DIRECT SALES EDITION. THESE HAVE A BAR CODE IN PLACE OF THE UPSIDE DOWN SPIDERMAN FACE IN LOWER LEFT CORNER WERE ONLY SOLD ON NEWS STANDS & ON AVERAGE ARE ABOUT 10% MAXIMUM OF THE TOTAL COMICS PRODUCTION RUN. FOR EVERY 100 OF THE REGULAR ISSUE PRINTINGS THERE WERE ONLY 10 OF THESE DIRECT SALES ISSUES PRINTED.
THESE COMICS ARE OUT THERE BUT NOT IN HIGH GRADE AS LIKE THIS 9.8 COPY. IT IS THE ONLY ONE I HAVE SEEN IN THOSE FIVE YEARS OF SEARCHING. WHEN OFFERED ON E-BAY AT A BUY IT NOW PRICE OF $160 I BOUGHT IT IMMEDITATELY. PRICE WAS NOT BAD CONSIDERING THERE ARE 214 CGC 9.8s OF THIS COMIC GRADED BY CGC WITH MANY OF THOSE 9.8 COPIES SELLING IN THE $175 - $235 RANGE. CGC LUMPS BOTH OF THOSE EDITIONS TOGETHER IM 100% POSITIVE THIS CONFUSES MOST PEOPLE AND THEY DO NOT REALIZE HOW RARE THESE ISSUES ARE IN HIGH GRADE.
THIS COULD BE THE ONLY ONE GRADED 9.8 BUT IMPOSSIBLE TO TELL BECAUSE OF CGC COMBINING THE TWO PRINTINGS. IT IS IN A NEW HOLDER SO IT WAS RECENTLY GRADED AND FEEL THE SELLER DIDNT KNOW HOW RARE IT ACTUALLY IS. ITS WHY I PAID THE ASKING PRICE. HONESTLY FEEL IT IS ONE OF A FEW 9.8 GRADED COPIES. THE DIRECT SALES EDITION HAD POOR HANDLING BEING SOLD ON NEWS STANDS IS THE MAIN REASON FEW WILL GRADE THIS HIGH. PAID A BIT BUT FEEL IT IS ONE OF MAYBE FIVE, COULD BE MORE BUT HIGHlY DOUBT THAT.
KNOW FROM SEARCHING FOR SO LONG IT IS RARE, DIFFICULT TO TELL HOW RARE. SEPT OF 2016 THERE WERE 196 COPIES GRADED 9.8. AS OF FEB 2018 THERE ARE NOW 214 COPIES GRADED 9.8, SO 18 MORE GRADED IN 17 MONTHS, NOT MANY CONSIDERING, THAT ALONE MAKES THESE DIRECT SALES EDITIONS RARE. I FEEL THIS COPY MAY BE THE ONLY ONE, OR LEAST LESS THAN 10, AND THAT IS A HIGH ESTIMATE.

BUT WOULD MAKE THIS SET A TRUE CONTENDER IF CUSTOM SETS EVER MADE IT TO THE CGC RANKING COLLECTING POINTS FOR UNUSUAL SETS. IT IS LITERALLY IS ONE OF ONE VERIFIED SIGNED. THERE ARE MANY COMICS IN THIS SET THAT ARE ONE OF ONE THAT DONT HAVE A LOT OF VALUE, BUT THIS COPY REALLY ADDS TO THE UNIQUENESS OF THIS SET AND A COMIC AS THIS ONE FOR NOW AND MAYBE, LATER ON, IS A RARE FIND. THIS IS A SWIPE / VARIANT ISSUE WITH 41 COPIES GRADED 9.8 ( SO FAR ) SURPRISED MORE ARE NOT SEEN FOR SALE DIFFICULT TO FIND CGC 9.8 COPIES. THERE ARE TWO DIFFERENT ISSUES THE NEWS STAND WITH THE BAR CODE AND DIRECT ISSUE WITH NO BAR CODE. HAVE FOUND NO COPIES GRADED BY CGC WITH JUST THE BAR CODE ( YET ). STILL LOOKING FOR THE NEWS STAND COPY IN 9.8. & UNUSUAL THE PRICE FOR THIS COMIC IN GENERAL IS STILL VERY REASONABLE AT THIS POINT IN TIME AS OF 9 - 25 - 2016 ONE IS ON E-BAY WITH NO SALE AND RELISTED AT JUST $20. THINK THAT IS AN EXCELLENT DEAL WISH I NEEDED IT, EXCELLENT PRICE. LESS THAN $50 I IS A GREAT DEAL. THIS IS A COOL SWIPE / VARIANT / COVER OF THE FANTASTIC FOUR HOMAGE TO THE #1 SUPER MAN REPRINT. MANY OF THESE HOMAGE COVERS ( AT THIS POINT ) ARE LOW IN PRICE MAKES FINDING NEW COVERS EXCITING. THIS MAKES THIS SET MUCH MORE INTERESTING IN COLLECTING WITH HOPES OF FINDING AS MANY VARIABLES AS POSSIBLE. STILL SURPRISED FINDING VARIANT ISSUE`S HAD NO IDEA ARE OUT THERE UNTIL STUMBLING UPON THEM. MANY TIMES ACCIDENTALLY. ITS DIFFICULT FINDING NEW AND OLD SWIPES BUT THE SEARCH CONTINUES WITH HIGH HOPES THE HARD PART IS FINDING THEM GRADED 9.8. AND AS EXPECTED MANY ISSUES WITH LOW COLLECTOR INTEREST MAKE FINDING HIGH GRADE COPIES NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE.

1993 ACTION COMICS SUPER GIRL #685 SECOND PRINTING SIGNED BY ROGER STERN. THE DISAPPOINTING PART OF ASSEMBLING THIS SET IS GETTING MORE APPARENT WITH EACH SUBMISSION SENT TO CGC FOR GRADING. AS EXPECTED DIFFICULT FINDING HIGH GRADE COPIES NOT BEING ABLE TO SEE THE COMIC IN PERSON BUYING ON - LINE. ONLY FOUR COPIES TOTAL GRADED AT ANY LEVEL FINDING A 9.8 IS GOING TO BE DIFFICULT. MANY OF THE COMICS JUST CANT BE FOUND IN QUANTITIES TO SEARCH THROUGH FOR THE BEST LOOKING PIECE. THIS COMIC IS SIGNED BY THE STORIES CREATOR IS A PLUS. BUT STILL MY GRADING SKILLS NEED TO BE FINED TUNED AS THOUGHT THIS ONE WOULD GRADE AT LEAST 9.2.

2014 ITTY BITTY BUNNIES IN RAINBOW PIXIE LAND #1. KNEW WHEN I WAS ASSEMBLING THIS SET THERE WERE GOING TO BE YEARS AND DIFFERENT COMICS THAT COULD BE THE ONLY COPIES GRADED BECAUSE THE COLLECTOR INTEREST COULD BE VERY MINIMAL. THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF BEING THE ONLY COPY GRADED BECAUSE LACKING COLLECTOR INTEREST LACKING ANY REAL VALUE. IT IS THE ONLY COPY GRADED BY CGC. REALLY MISSED MY GRADING SKILLS ONLY GRADES A 9.0 THOUGHT IT WOULD GRADE MUCH HIGHER / COULD GET EXPENSIVE TRYING TO FIND BETTER COPIES & AND MAY NOT GET BETTER GRADES, THOUGHT THIS WAS A 9.8 CONTENDER.

2013 UGLY DOLL COMICS VIZ KIDS FREE COMIC BOOK DAY. ANOTHER COMIC IN THIS SET WITH LOW COLLECTOR INTEREST WITH ONLY A TOTAL OF TWO COPIES GRADED BY CGC THE OTHER COPY GRADED IS A SIGNATURE SERIES AND GRADES 9.6. ALSO THOUGHT THIS COPY WOULD GRADE HIGHER SO MY GRADING SKILLS NEED TO BE FINE TUNED AS THIS COMIC IN THIS BATCH SENT TO CGC ONLY HIT 30% 9.8 WOULD LIKE THAT TO BE MUCH HIGHER. ALL THE COMICS IN THIS SET ARE A HOMAGE TO THE 1938 #1 SUPERMAN FIRST ISSUE. BEING THAT THIS UGLY DOLL ISSUE DOES NOT HAVE A LARGE COLLECTOR INTEREST FINDING A 9.8 GRADE WILL BE VERY DIFFICULT FOR TWO REASONS IT WAS A FREE GIVE AWAY SO WONT BE SAVED IN HIGH QUANTITIES WITH MUCH CARE ALSO A LOW PRODUCTION RUN. THESE FACTORS WOULD MAKE 9.8 GRADES RARE. KNEW THERE WOULD BE PROBLEMS FINDING VARIANT ISSUES OF THE #1 SUPERMAN COMIC, THIS FITS MY EXPECTATIONS OF VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND THIS COMIC GRADED 9.8
